What a hidden gem! There are so many Asheville based restaurants on OpenTable and I rely on OpenTable for everything. This restaurant was awesome. Great food and service. No one was there! Two tables and that was it. Sure its not on the main strip on Broadway, but I recommend making the stop.

It was a disappointing meal for a number of reasons. First we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait for food from the kitchen because they had a large table that was overwhelming the kitchen. Since we didn't think we could get last minute reservations elsewhere, we decided to stay. We ordered salads which it was thought might be simpler for the staff to handle. They came in a reasonable time and we were told we could safely order entrees - so we did. They came immediately- we were still eating our salads. The food got cold.... when were asked if we were pleased with our meal, we expressed our disappointment. After a while a young man asked us again. He walked away while we were still talking. We later were told he was the manager. The food was fine, I imagine, if it was warm. The staff was polite but they seemed very ill prepared to run a fine food establishment.

The true high point of this restaurant is the staff, friendly and attentive. If you were staying in the hotel and were looking for a quick place to eat, I could recommend the Writer's Bistro. The food was plated nicely but was just average in taste and a little over priced.

Lovely dining room, nice menu, very attentive wait staff. Great place for a pre-dinner since it's right next door to ACT. Food was well prepared and delicious.

The venue is attractive, the menu limited, the food mediocre, and service average.

We made a late decision to go to Asheville for Valentine's Day weekend and were unable to get reservations at our favorite restaurants. It was a happy mistake because we had a wonderful time at Writer's Bistro. It was a quiet, romantic setting. The food and service were both perfect. We were pleasantly surprised and Writer's Bistro will now definitely be one of those "favorite restaurants."

My husband and I were going to be in Asheville for Christmas so we made our 5:00 dinner reservations through OpenTable the week before. When we got there at 5:00, we were told they didn't have any reservations available until 7:00. I told them I had reservations and they were made through OT. The host said "Oh, well we can't get into our OpenTable reservation site." But, they did go ahead and seat us, even though we felt a little like they didn't believe us. I had called several days before to find out what would be on the menu and was told they would be serving from the regular menu. After looking at it online, we decided we would go ahead make our reservations. When we were seated, the waitress said "Go ahead to the buffet when you are ready." Buffet? We weren't told of a buffet but we thought "a Christmas buffet might be nice so we proceeded up there. Much to our great shock and disappointment, there was a bowl of mixed greens and salad toppings, a pan of mixed vegetables, a pan of mashed potatoes and our choice of salmon and roast beef that looked like it was leftover from the day before and was sliced about 1 mm thick. It was dry and tough. There was a selection of 3 different pies for dessert. Then, to top it off, it was $28 apiece! We were both extremely disappointed in our Christmas "dinner" We would have made reservations elsewhere if we had known this was what we were going to be served. We could have even gone to Bob Evans for a turkey and dressing dinner which would have been a lot tastier and a lot cheaper. Needless to say, we will not be going back to The Writer's Bistro nor will we be recommending it to anyone else.

Arriving at the Renaissance Marriott after the main dining period, we were hungry but too tired to venture far so we decided to try this in-hotel spot for a light dinner. Service was attentive (which I guess one would expect since only a few tables were occupied), and our server was very helpful in recommending a pleasing glass of wine. We chose a combination of appetizers and everything was excellent! The grilled asparagus with balsamic glaze was exceptional, as was the bread and flavored butter. We would definitely return.
