The grand residence at the base of Mattituck Inlet christened Windamere in 1890, opened its doors to summer guests at the dawn of the twentieth century as the North Fork became a sought-after destination for city dwellers. Visitors were in for a treat at the lofty rate of $7 per week. The property boasted a dance hall with a piano, a tennis court, a bowling alley, and a fine dock built for excursions. The lush and bountiful grounds were graced by a gentle wind flowing down the creek, and magnificent sunsets were presented nightly over the inlet. Windamere was known for delightful entertainment for guests and neighboring yacht clubs, most notably a 500-person singing society arriving by train for a midsummer performance on the great lawn.

Our server was outstanding; friendly, efficient, and patient with our large party. The outdoor environment was spectacular, as was the entertainment. Food and drinks were great and we felt very welcome. We try to dine here once every year on vacation.

The service was great, but the food was not.... nothing like pictured , the salmon was inedible and the lobster roll was just cold lobster nothing mixed with it... wouldn't go back

Loved the scenery of the restaurant. We sat outdoors with live music. Singer and band for outstanding however much too loud for an early dinner; Songs were magnificent and we could not get over how well the lead singer sang each and every song. Music was geared for a much later bar crowd; nonetheless we enjoyed it. Initial drink order needed to be corrected and done so with grace. The food was good; Lobster roll a bit dry and needed a bit more warm butter which sever graciously sent out. Specials were delicious. Shrimp cocktail tasted so fresh as if they were just harvested minutes before...delish! Baked Clams also delicious. Shrimp scampi was enjoyed. Laid back atmosphere... a few minor corrections in serving technique would have made the night a bit more elegant. Our server was lovely and made us feel quite comfortable.

It was closed and somehow I was allowed to make a reservation. Poor experience should be removed from site altogether.

It’s a lovely location. The server was lovely and polite. The food was the worst Cold and uncooked. If was first time but I would not go back. Would not recommend the brunch.
