It was nice looking way over priced with not the best Quality of food not enough on the menu
There was a creative Valentine’s prefix menu and great service. We enjoyed our evening there very much. We look foward to going back for the regular menu soon.
The food and service were spectacular...we enjoyed every minute. Can’t wait to go back!
Guest from out of town/ Valentine’s Day. The food was excellent. We were able to hear our guest as it was not too loud. Because it was Valentine’s Day there was a 4 course dinner. All good but too much food!
I was served what may be the tenderest halibut filet I ever had! Moist, not at all watery, perfect crust on top, full yet delicate flavor.
The food was stellar. This place is a hidden gem. Try the lobster donuts!
Everything was great. However, going out to eat using the Open Table Reservation System turns going out to a meal a negative experience. I don't like it. I'm required to write a review every time I use Open Table? My time is worth much more than the $25 credit I receive after using Open Table umpteen times.
I will probably not use the application too much anymore. In the future I'll call the restaurants directly when making a res. I don't want to have to come home and type every time I go out.
The food is very good. The menu is varied and has some options for vegans. The patio is a great venue. Great when the weather permits. Great for lunch or dinner. The bar is under utilized, but great for parties and group happy hour.
Everything was just great on this and all visits I've had at the Wilshire.
Service was great and the food exceptional.
My girlfriend and I had high-hopes for Wilshire Restaurant after reading good reviews of it. We decided to try it for dinner and things started-out on a promising note as we were seated in a comfortable booth and chose an excellent full-bodied, red wine. Unfortunately things went downhill after our initial order as our waitress abandoned us the rest of the night to attend to the customers sitting at the bar. Of course that’s O.K., but no server replaced her. The service was pretty much non-existent from that point on. We literally had to get-up from the table to request routine dining items. It’s really a shame because we very much wanted to like this restaurant as it’s located just a few blocks from our home.
The kitchen unexpectedly closed at 9pm, but I had made an 8:15pm reservation. Everything says online that they close at 10, so why did they suddenly close at 9? I feel like I should have been warned when they called on confirm my reservation because I would have cancelled. For what we spent, I feel like we were rushed out the door.
Creative chef with delicious combinations of ingredients. We had the mushroom soup, arugula salad with apple slices of capicola lean great dressing, alaskan halibut with gnocchi...We sat in a nice booth in the bar lounge area freat area to dine besides the main dining room....definitely go back plus the chef split the halibut to be shared plating.
It seems like the Wilshire has fallen on hard times. Went there for Sunday "Supper" food was disappointing to say the least and even though we were with only two other tables the kitchen forgot half of our entrees. waiter and host were pleasant enough though
Waiter was noticeably absent most of the night, didn’t ask if we wanted more drinks, took forever to get check so we took it to the front. Food was excellent as well as ambiance
Srvc was great, super attentive but not annoying. Food came out @ a good pace. The ambiance was beautiful, romantic, but not so for that you couldn't see the person in front of you. Drinks were delish.
The chicken liver paté was really good, came w/country toast that was crispy & crunchy & didn't cut the roof of your mouth. The cream of mushroom soup was mild & pleasant. Spare short ribs wasn't anything special, the salmon was in a purse filled w/cauliflower, potato, asparagus w/a side of white wine sauce to drizzle over the fish (good time to boomerang). I would definitely go again for brunch (bottomless mimosas or rosé) or dinner
One of the best chicken pot pies I’ve had!
Loved everything about this place! In particular, the food and outdoor ambiance were excellent. Sunday roast and trimmings cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back!
The quality of food was inconsistent and not very good. Two of our party ordered from the Dine LA menu and some of the items were substituted due to the kitchen running out. In addition the Prix Fixe was poorly timed and not properly coursed. I ordered risotto that was too salty and not very flavorful. There was a small portion of mushrooms that appeared to have been added to the dish for presentation but not cooked in or with the risotto.
The restaurant attempted to serve our bottle of Cliquot in red wine glasses. When we objected, they “found” some proper champagne glasses. What kind of restaurant doesn’t have sufficient glassware?
Overall it was a mediocre experience with nothing outstanding
Food was good during dine LA. We had early dinner. It took a while to have start our dinner. Good thing we were not in a hurry.
I've been here several times and everything has always been very good. never any problems. Great Sunday Brunch. Everyone should try on of the roasts. So much food. Great service too.
As usual, patio was charming and not noisy. Service very attentive and informed. Food very good.
This restaurant is one of my favorites on Westside.
We have been to this restaurant many times over the years, as we live relatively close by. We stopped going for years after a poor experience, but last year started coming again. After today, I don't think we'll be back, at least not for a long time. After waiting to be seated, it was ten minutes before a waiter checked on us. We hadn't decided yet, because we had questions - but instead of answering those questions, the waiter just said "Take your time," and walked off. (According to our check, his name was Bernard, maybe?) When he came back, about ten minutes later, we ordered some wine for while we waited. Ten minutes went by before he reappeared, and said our wine would be out in "Just a second." Several more minutes, and he appeared, said that the wine had to be found from the back stock, and then he got a signal from someone that the wine was in fact out of stock. So it took him basically fifteen minutes or so to let us know that the wine we'd ordered was out of stock. We went ahead and ordered our food, and some other wine. He brought it a little while later, and then completely disappeared. We never saw him again throughout the course of our meal. The food was just okay, and there were things that we needed to make it better, and it took us ten to fifteen minutes - while our food sat there, getting cold - to eventually flag down a different waiter, who brought us everything we needed right away (he was nice). Still, we did not see Bernard again until we were long, long done eating and were ready for our check. His attitude through the experience was rude, abrupt, completely unapologetic, and unhelpful. When we did get a chance to ask questions, we got one word answers, or responses like "Well, what does it say on the menu?" The whole thing really soured the experience and made us very unhappy. We don't expect much, but for a meal as expensive as this one, a simple "How is everything?" doesn't seem too much to ask. Very very bad experience.
It's always a pleasure to eat at the Wilshire. We prefer lunch and the patio. Total relaxation and great food.
Food and service were fine. Didn't realize it was a restaurant for sports TV watching.
Loved the Sea Bass and Polenta! Had a really nice time
We had a great dinner at Wilshire. There was a special seasonal event on the patio so we ate in the library room. It was filled with character. The food, the ambiance and the service were outstanding.
Great food, Great service. Can't wait to return. This was our 2nd visit,. The staff was right there all the time with honest suggestions for everything from soup to nuts or better yet from appetizers to desert. All this and a great wine selection.
Awesome…2 for 2!! Great Sunday Roast dinner! Good job! 👍🏼
Was very disappointed. Have been to Wilshire on numerous occasions and food was always top flight
as was service. Perhaps because this visit was the day after Thanksgiving they were not fully
staffed or up to their usual level.
Everything we could have wished for in a thanksgiving feast.
Had read great reviews about Wilshire's Sunday Roast and decided to try it out. Only 2 of our party of 6 people ordered the roast and everyone else ended up regretting they didn't. Tremendous value and high quality food with great service in a beautiful setting, what more could you ask for? Live musician playing in the patio all afternoon. Highly recommended.
Outstanding food, service, ambience, I loved the restaurant. The Sunday special was affordable and so worth the $$
I have been to the Wilshire a few times specifically for Sunday lunch (the English roast is amazing), but my most recently experience there was incredibly disappointing. I found the staff were not polite. Worse, despite having a reservation for 1.30pm when we arrived we were told that we were not permitted to have Sunday lunch as we had not 'pre-ordered'. It was a special occasion so it was an incredibly disappointing experience. It's a shame because the environment is delightful and I know that the Sunday lunch is fantastic, but with management like this I will neither recommend it to others nor will I return.
Love this place, The food was fantastic although the menu is somewhat limited.
Wilshire is a great restaurant. I arrived early on a Sunday afternoon and was seated on the patio. The service was really good and very attentive. I got "The Roast" for two and took more than half home. It was so good I wanted more later. I told them that the slate plater for 2 would probably feed a family of 4. Everything provided with the roast was amazing. Definitely will be back in the future.
Horrible and embarrassing. Was trying to impress friends and it turned out to be awful. They didn't have our table on the patio which we had requested. They put us upstairs where it was like sitting in a hallway for a private party room. One of us had a bad knee and another one of us has sight problems so climbing up was a real challenge. They came over with menus but no one offered cocktails (even though they have a full bar!) I saw a table open up downstairs so they moved us to the patio. I thought things were going to be alright- now we were finally settled in. I was wrong.
We ordered bread, it never came. We ordered the lobster donuts. Lobster meat was fine but the donut was cold and dense. Octopus was very good-tender and tasty. Friends ordered a pasta dish but it never came. The waitress apologized thinking they had changed their entree order. They had ment to split the pasta BEFORE their entree. My pasta dish was sooo salty I could not eat it...yet no one commented on why my dish was barely touched. No one asked if I wanted to take it home...no one was on top of the situation. We shared our wine with the help but no one offered to waive some of the corkage. While they didn't have to, in many fine restauants that is the protocol. Since there were so many problems with the dinner, you would think they might have offered a free dessert. Again, they didn't have too but that is how many places deal with a meal gone wrong. The scallops were lovely, the other entrees where just so-so. I can see why on a Saturday night at 8:30 the place was dead. I don't give them long unless they get their act together. Too bad, since it is a pretty setting.
Came for the Beef Wellington but they ran out. That's great because it means it's popular, sad we missed it! It's great food, wish it wasnt as long of a wait though, and wish the portion size was larger. Cocktails could use improvement. The Ribs were delicious!
We’ve been to the Wilshire many times in the past and have loved it. At this time we were very disappointed. The menu has been changed and is now quite expensive. My friend got 4 small scallops as an entree for $35. We were charged $5 for bread and the birthday dessert was $12. We will not be returning.
Came in for lunch with a few friends. It was lovely to sit out on the patio. Got there right when they opened at 11:30 but as people came it was still quiet. Oh..and the food was GREAT! Split three items and all were good. The crab toast and tuna tartar was YUMMY!!
Service was awful. Got up and left the dining area to eat at the bar
