So it’s been about 6 yrs since I’ve been back to NOLA - each time I went in the past, I would get chicken at Willie Mae - found out the house had a fire about 6 months back and they’re in a gorgeous space for now…chicken remains the best of any chicken anywhere….hands down.

I am originally from NOLA and was here visiting my mom. This was a pre-Mother's Day brunch. She enjoyed the fried okra and said they were cooked perfectly. However, she thought the chicken was a little spicy but we both still enjoyed the savory crispy skin. I had the grits and eggs which were nothing to write home about. Overall we enjoyed our meal and plan to return again with friends.

Great service. The fried catfish was awesome. The red bean hummus was also a neat treat.

Great fried chicken! But also the “non fried chicken items”. Wonderful service in a more upscale setting than we expected.

We'd heard so much about Willie Mae's fried chicken, and the food was good, but the "service" was awful. Our waiter, Kenneth, wasn't attentive, and when we were ready to order, stood behind us with his back turned to us. It was our first time eating there and we had questions, which he didn’t like answering. Again, we’d never been there before and he acted like we were a nuisance to him. He didn't like the fact that we had questions. We asked if the gumbo and crawfish etouffee had rice already in it or if it could be put on the side He huffed and said no, it comes in it, which was fine, but his attitude wasn’t. Then he proceeded to bring us gumbo with rice on the side and the crawfish etouffee with rice clearly placed in it and not prepared in it. He just chose to do it however he wanted it. He huffed again when we asked if it had onions and if they could be left off. He did leave the onions off it, but the attitude was unnecessary. The Gumbo came with a crab leg and we asked for a crab cracker and he got huffy and said they didn't have any and to use our teeth! What? No thanks, we don't want to go the dentist with a cracked tooth while on vacation. He was not attentive. Again, it was our first visit and the chicken was really good, but I was surprised by the spicy kick it had. We were thinking about coming again with friends who can’t handle spicy foods and asked if there was an option to order without the spice. He was upset we even asked and said, NO! Ok, it was just a question, we didn’t care what the answer was. Because the chicken was spicy hot, I ran out of water, but got ignored. It would have been a much better experience with a server who wasn't so nasty.
