My wife and I had a great experience from start to finish. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated at a quiet corner table on the first floor near the large fireplace. Our server, Tim, was very professional, friendly, and was quick to pick up we were not in a hurry and ensured ample time between courses. We split a delicious Caesar salad, which was certainly large enough for two. My wife ordered the Lobster Ravioli (shucked lobster, baby shrimp, lobster sherry cream with a grilled baguette) and tasted as good as it sounds! I ordered the Confit Duck Legs (cassoulet beans, spring vegetables, port wine-quince glaze) that was tender and very tasty. The wine list is very extensive with numerous price points. Along with the fabulous food, the building itself is fascinating and Tim did provide a bit of its history.

Had a lovely dinner at White Horse Tavern! The food was excellent, and our server, Janessa (hope I spelled that right?!) was very knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with her and our experience!

As a Newport native, I have been going to this iconic restaurant for more than two decades. Last night was the best meal I have had there; indeed, the best meal I have had in Newport in a long while. My guest and I each had poached & sauced foie gras to start, with a lovely aged Chardonnay by the glass (no Sauternes available). Then duck leg confit and a perfectly executed Beef Wellington. Indeed, the whole extensive menu showed its inspiration from French cuisine. The wine list was multi-page, presenting dozens of premium wines from France & the US, plus several from elsewhere. All inspiring choices, but -- at stratospheric prices. Almost all were above $100 a bottle, and more than a few over $1000! So, outstanding choices for connoisseurs, but at prices which may be market rate in NYC but far outstrip what one sees elsewhere on Aquidneck Island. No comment piece can miss mentioning the delightful ambience of this 17th Century building. Truly a privilege o be seated therein. And our professional waiter was right out of Central Casting. In sum, a dining experience not to be missed.
