About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
  • Charming
Welcome to a corner of the French Mediterranean. Nestled between London’s St James and Soho, Whitcomb’s serves modern interpretations of classic dishes found along the sunny stretches of the French and Italian rivieras. Simple yet elegant cuisine, prepared à la minute.

As a West End restaurant, Whitcomb’s is ideal for pre- and post-theatre dining, set just a stone’s throw away from theatres such as the London Coliseum, Gielgud Theatre, Duke of York’s Theatre, and many more. Whitcomb’s also serves a delicious Express Lunch menu, perfect for business lunches or a break from shopping on the nearby Regent Street and Bond Street.

Join us to bask in the sunshine on our summer terrace by Veuve Clicquot, a spot for alfresco dining on Leicester Square, serving Champagne tasting flights, cocktails, oysters and fresh cuisine.

Before your dining experience, we invite you to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the neighbouring gin bar Joshua's Tavern or in the Japanese rooftop garden, 8 at The Londoner.

Fabulous! Extraordinary service, delicious dishes. An incredible cheese platter; the best of my life. Rarely have I had such a welcoming and service experience. We will return, that’s a no-brainer.

Pre theatre - Giant, literally a 3 minute walk up the road at the Harold Pinter. So great location. We asked for tap water but at the end were billed for bottled, despite no bottle ever having been exhibited. The pre theatre menu was uninspiring, so we went a la carte. The bruschetta was delicious, but the prawns were overcooked and could barely be separated from their shells. The lamb was also good, but the steak, ordered as medium rare, came well done. The requested Dijon French mustard turned out to be English. Service was friendly, and the high ceilinged dining room was cool. We shared a tarte tatin for pudding, washed down with a glass of dessert wine (£20) The bill, including a £48 bottle of Cotes de Rhone Villages and a stonking 15% service charge, came to £216. Great location, cool ambience. But even allowing for that given the series of minor glitches, quite pricey.

It’s a shame to leave a low review because the food was excellent and most of the staff were lovely. Unfortunately, one individual—who claimed to be the manager—was so rude we nearly walked out. We had booked a terrace table, but due to light rain, we asked to be seated inside. A kind hostess accommodated us. When I later inquired about the Veuve Clicquot flight listed on the terrace menu, the man responded in a condescending tone, asking, “Are you sitting on the terrace?” He dismissed the request, claiming our indoor table was too small and refused to make any effort to accommodate us. When I asked to speak to a manager, he arrogantly stated that he was the manager. His attitude was unnecessarily rude, dismissive, and made us feel uncomfortable. It’s deeply disappointing to encounter such poor customer service at an establishment of this level. I hope the hotel reconsiders who they allow to represent their brand—Veuve Clicquot deserves far better.

Service was great, but the portion size of the food in comparison to the price was simply inadequate. Not only that, but the cocktails were 20 quid each (despite not being listed anywhere on the drinks menu).

We had a lovely meal, but value for money I’m not sure. First you are always asked is would you like water, we did, a bottle was brought and poured into three of the four glasses so waitress went and hit another for the fourth glass, at £5.50 for non branded water!! It’s the little things that let these places down. I had a ribeye steak that was perfectly acceptable and well priced even with the sides being additions, but £15 for steak tartare that wasn’t really steak tartare, and £11 for a dessert, is a little steep, but to charge £6 for a single espresso, that’s high. So yes we had a nice meal, but not sure I would go back, there’s lots of other very good restaurants around the area offering same level of good quality and surroundings, if not a little better and for better value for money Last thing, leaves in the wine!!! Sommelier said he would take it up with supplier, but in a 2023 bottle that’s not really acceptable, and made for an unpleasant finish to my meal!!

The restaurant is nice and what I would expect of an upscale hotel bistro. The pre-theatre menu was thoughtfully selected, with a nice variety of options including vegetarian choices. Everything we tried was delicious, and the proportions were perfect for an early dinner. On the negative side, the service was somewhat confused, and we were not offered a complementary cocktail as advertised on the "pre-theatre experience" page of the restaurant website.
