Waverly Stone Gastropub
We opened Waverly Stone Gastropub in 2018 to bring fresh, creative food and drink and warm, friendly service to Holland’s restaurant scene. Whether you’re craving a classic like Shrimp & Grits or an adventurous, globally-inspired plate, we’re here to take care of you.
In cooking up new dishes, we draw inspiration from pub fare and street food from around the world. Father and son chef duo, Ed and Andrew Westerlund, work as a team to design creative dishes using classic, globally-inspired techniques and flavors. Our one-of-a-kind menu includes dishes like the Carnivore Okonomiyaki (a Japanese Cabbage Pancake) and Miso Seared Scallops with Ramen Noodles. Housemade ingredients and always-fresh beers and cocktails make for a unique experience every visit.

Our server was kind and gracious. Our meals were delicious. We were late diners having come from a concert and they did not hurry us at all. There is a nice selection of wine and beer. The chicken pasta dish was so good as was the Norwegian salmon. We have consistently enjoyed dining here and have brought many friends with us who also enjoyed it. A gem in Holland for any occasion!
The whipped goat cheese small plate appetizer was excellent. We shared the scallops on spicy noodles. They were cooked to perfection and the flavors in the dish were wonderful. The menu is rather limited and would benefit from a few more healthy options. My friend ordered the smoked drink and LOVED it.
Good food and good service
The food deserves a 5, hands down! The service was friendly and attentive, however drinks and food were slow. We are caulking it up to staffing issues that all restaurants now face, but hope it will improve.
We will be back!
We arrived a couple minutes late for our 6PM reservation. We were seated in about 5 minutes. Our server was great. He answered questions we had about the menu concerning gluten free options. We ordered beverages right away and then ordered our meals by 6:30. Our meals were not served until 7:10. My wife had pulled pork and I had the chicken pasta. The pork was tasty. The chicken lacked flavor, it tasted like boiled chicken placed on top of the pasta. Very disappointing. We did not complain to our server. He recognized the wait time was longer than it should have been and offered a dessert but we passed due to not having time to wait. $28 for a chicken pasta dish that lacked flavor is not what we expected.
Excellent service, atmosphere and food. Great beer selection.
casual, good food, nice cocktails, informative waitress.
This is not a gastropub
This Gastropub is bouncing back from the Covid restrictions and it was nice to see the place full again. The food continues at a hight standard and the service is good with a cheerful staff.
Wonderful food and even more wonderful staff. Great place for dinner, or drinks or both right in the heart of downtown holland.
Get the Octopus! What a delicious and innovative starter served on a warm salad.
The menu included standard fare - my partner had a delicious burger - as well as more unusual offerings like the Octopus mentioned above. The cocktail list included creative options as well as mocktails; they were accommodating to my gluten allergy as well.
We had a time crunch to get to a movie or we would have stayed and enjoyed a bit more time here. The staff did their utmost to get us on our way on time.
My wife and I had their burgers. I did the Char Grill Burger and she did the Chorizo Burger. Both are excellent! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive...not overbearing. Waverly Stone is one of our new favorites!
Great service and very good food. Still trying to work the post pandemic set up as the tables were very spaced out (for safety) but made the place a bit of a cavern.
Simply can't imagine a bad or even "iffy" review for this delightful space !
The food was amazing - drinks unusual and great!
The Scallop/Ramen noodle dish was
absolutely spot on perfection ! Kick of spice and noodles and scallops were perfectly prepared. Wait staff was friendly and engaging .
Quaint downtown atmosphere and average prices for the quality, portions and diversity of the menu!
I guess if you're just looking for "typical" - go somewhere else but if you want a TRUE gastro pub - stop here and enjoy ! It's worth the 3 hour drive from Chicago!
Coming back soon !
Meals were average for higher price. An average experience overall.
Bridget was fun and very knowledgeable on the menu. The food and cocktails were quite tasty. It took a long time to get our meal and others who came in after us were almost done eating. Even the manager had to apologize and yet, nothing was offered to remediate the lengthy wait for food. Recommendation, offer to pay a round or dessert to make up for the kitchen delay. The desserts were shareable and fantastic.
We visited Holland for the holiday weekend and had a great meal at Waverly Stone. Food, drinks, service, and ambiance were all fantastic.
Excellent food & service!
Great for drinks & sharables are wonderful. Unusual main dishes which were good, but not great. Pricey for what you get.
Food was excellent! Our server Ian was fantastic! Lovely experience for the second time, we'll definitely be back.
We made a reservation and were seated immediately, after being warmly greeted. The service was fantastic, checked on multiple times, and the food was absolutely amazing. Definitely will be a returning customer!
Everything we had read about Waverly Stone was true!! Absolutely the best servers (thanks for showing up for us!) And the food was amazing! The nan bread appy and Octopus were perfect. Three of us had the Pork Belly and Grits and it was out of this world; another had a chicken sandwich and fries and came out perfect, and large! Can’t wait to go back and try out more of their tasty food and cocktails! Pleasantly surprised! :-)
Eceletic menu and a delightful change from the usual bar food fare. Staff was spot on and attentive. We’ll be back when we’re in Holland next time.
This was our second visit. Had an exceptional dinner and experience the first time. Nice experience food was good. Just wasn't impressed with the menu only one real entree the other options were salads and sandwiches.
The food at Waverly Stone is out of this world GOOD! The service was so attentive and friendly. We had octopus and also the chicken black rice salad. Excellent flavor combinations! Highly recommend!
Service was fine but food was very bland and boring
Great service and quality of food. The margarita I ordered was more like a martini which was surprising. Chicken sandwich was really good. Veggies were a bit salty and the duck fat potatoes were overpowered by blue cheese that I didn’t know would be on it. Overall we enjoyed dinner and Monique was excellent.
Outstanding all around. Delicious food and fantastic service. Noise level is fairly high, so I would not recommend if someone in your party is hearing impaired. We loved it!
The Cajun shrimp were delicious. Our waitress was full of information and suggestions. Great atmosphere.
Great food and aesthetics. I will definitely be coming back!
So good, such great service! Our server, Ian, made the whole night extra specials
We were very impressed with the food and drink selection and the refreshing of the menu from our last dining experience. The bar tender is outstanding and the chef makes excellent dishes. Our only negative was the lack of attentiveness of our waiter. He would disappear for long periods of time, leave drinks empty at the table, and not return to provide them even when he had finally ordered another round. While we appreciate having the time to talk with friends, we also greatly appreciate not waiting for drinks with empty glasses for over a half hour.
Celebrating daughter’s work promotion!
Wonderful experience. My wife and I didn't realized we'd be visiting Holland during Tulip Time, so we were to thankful that I managed to make a reservation so far in advance. The restaurant was an overall wonderful experience. Our table was ready ahead of schedule and the food & service was fantastic.
Fifty letters. Okay, let's get started: always a warm and kind welcome. Smiles everywhere.
Food - no matter what, it is always great! Wine as well.
I like the candles on every table. But would love some flowers. Not bouquets necessary. But perhaps just one little vase and one flower. Different colors. Or one color.
Holland is so European - meaning flowers!
The family owned aspect really shows as everyone from front of house to the back seemed in sync. The server girl was extremely nice and helped us decide what to order. The menu is small and limited for vegan/vegetarian diets but not impossible. The restaurant opened slightly later than we had hoped but was worth the wait
The sign upon entering had a message stating "New Menu, New Cocktails". We have never been to this restaurant and were excited to see what was offered. Our two specialty cocktails were very pleasing. Unfortunately, upon reviewing the new menu we found that most entrees were chicken. The only way to eat beef was from a cheeseburger. The main menu was extremely limited and actually included a salad. We started with an appetizer of octopus, but they were sold out, so we opted for fingerling potatoes poutine. The potatoes were extremely underwhelming and were simply boiled potatoes with a sauce with no taste and a sparse feathering of cheese. What ends up on your plate is a boiled potato wedge, unsalted and with no seasoning. Looking at the limited entrées, we opted for a check after the appetizer. The place was really cool and we're rooting for success. Fix the new menu and prosper!
Great service, atmosphere, and food!
We love that their menu changes so we can have options to try new dishes.
Gastropub to me means more laid back - but this was high end upscale. The service was great and the ambiance was great too but it was pricey and didn't like they only had an a la cart menu. I am glad they had a kids menu because otherwise all the upscale food would have been rough for my child who was there.
Menu rather limited, but very good.
Pretzel Wes delicious. Beer selection was good.
