Waterwheel Restaurant - Inn at Gristmill Square
We went here on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed! Friendly service, fresh ingredients, and very good attention to detail. The historic building gives such a nice ambiance and the food was delicious.
Always a great experience! We highly recommend this restaurant!
We had an amazing dinner. We loved the charm and character of the building, as did our kids. Ashley, our server, was great. We went with her suggestions for dinner and we were very happy with our meals. We ordered the beet appetizer and French onion soup for starters. For dinner entrees we had the scallops, pasta Bolognese, and the kids split the ribeye. The ribeye was brought out already split on 2 plates and cut into bite size pieces just for the kids (this was perfect, and so thoughtful). The salad that comes with the meal is also very good. Ashley recommended the vinaigrette dressing, and it was so good, made in house. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the sweet pea risotto was also cooked to perfection. The bolognese pasta was very flavorful and you could tell it was fresh. We stayed at the homestead and have dined at the homestead restaurants as well as a couple of others. We have now made Waterwheel our top choice for when we visit this area. We are used to city fine dinning and the food and service at Waterwheel is top notch.
Every single dish we tried was exceptional, from the beets appetizer to the pear salad to the steak. Delicious desserts as well. Accommodating to food sensitivities. Charming atmosphere, attentive service. One of our favorite restaurants ever, and we are picky.
Fine dining with Historical ambiance.
A diamond in the neighborhood and only ten minutes from the Homestead.
Pretty historic spot with very good service but food was quite mediocre. Everything was too salty. Salmon was not good and menu choices were limited. Was second time there and wouldnt go back.
The Waterwheel Restaurant was charming and the food was great! Had a wonderful meal and would definitely recommend it if you're in the Hot Springs/Warm Springs area.
Everything was good until we got the bill. we had brought a special wine with us to celebrate our anniversary. The server had indicated that there would be a corkage fee, which we knew would be the case. He did not tell us how much. It turned out to be $25.00 which is more than we had ever been charged in restaurants all over the US. We asked to speak to the manager and when confronted he was surley and very rude, not willing to negotiate. He even lied to us telling us that the Homestead where we were staying charged $50. Upon returning to The Homestead we asked how much they charged and it was $25. Believe me the Waterwheel is no Homestead. By the way even though it was our 30th anniversary, no dessert or anything was offered. The Homestead gave us a room upgrade, deserts, and complimentary wine.
Excellent food. Awesome presentation. Fantastic service. The day we were there we met two really nice couples willing to enter a conversation. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Always delicious ,creative dishes with wonderful service!
We come back yeah after year - always a highlight
We had a delightful time --the service was wonderful and the food was delicious. We felt well taken care of We will be coming back here to dine, and to stay in the lovely inn.
Although the food was well presented, it was too salty.
We loved every bite — and fabulous service added to the evening. You won’t regret having a meal here.
The evening was perfect. I was visiting my sister for the weekend and we always enjoy a meal at The Waterwheel. The service was friendly and welcoming. We both had the trout which was excellent. A very pleasant experience. I highly recommend The Waterwheel.
Nice experience, pleasant staff, great food and service
5 star cuisine in a unique, historic setting. Definitely would recommend this venue. Reservations a must on the weekend.
Dan the waiter was wonderful
Although my family enjoys good food, we are not connoisseurs. I was concerned about being "intimidated" in the environment. I couldn't have been more wrong! Staff were down to earth, friendly, ready to help but not hovering. The other concern I always have is the acoustics. I have hearing aids and some settings tend to bounce the noise around the room. We sat within a few feet of other couples and the only voices I heard were those at my table. Because of this I plan to take my dad there, he also struggles with hearing in restaurants. And of course, the food was wonderful. We had the trout- locally raised, delicious.
Everything about this place was amazing. My sister and I took our mother here for mothers day/ birthday dinner and we were so impressed. Not only did they provide a complimentary dessert for moms birthday. The chef also came out and recommended the best meal for my sister who has food allergies. The food was incredible and i would definitely visit again.
Food was excellent. They did a lovely service, we chose a number of small plates and an entree. I was a lot of fun looking through the wine cellar, an unfinished part of the old mill, and selected a bottle to go with dinner. Highly recommend the Resturaunt, a very enjoyable and relaxing evening.
We took a long weekend away!
Great food ; ambiance, and service in a. Old Inn environment. We were warmly greeted by owner and sever. It’s a great place to dine near he Homestead but off the property
Always love the gristmill. Love the wine cellar and overall ambiance!
Excellent location and rustic decor. The hostess and waitstaff were on their game. Food was excellent. Would recommend taking this restaurant in for a change in dining when visiting the Homestead.
We had a great dinner and our server, Megan, was very good. She was appropriately knowledgable about the menus and offered good suggestions. Always a great meal!
Historic atmosphere. Delightful wine cellar. Friendly service. Nice table setting and good food!
Can’t say enough good things about this experience.
The food was delicious, as well as beautifully presented, although the soup was a little salty. The service was excellent as well.
My partner and I both had the vegetarian "grains" plate and while it was delicious, we both left hungry. The quantity of food was essentially the same as a generous "side." I'll also note that the hostess, after seating us, asked only me (female) about whether she could take my coat, and what type of water I'd like. My partner (male) was essentially invisible: she neither spoke to him nor made eye contact with him, even when describing the prix fixe menu. It was odd enough that we spent part of our evening trying to figure out if he'd somehow inadvertently offended her.
Our server was terrific, and the pot de creme dessert was delicious.
Second time at the restaurant, and it was lovely. Food was locally sourced and very tasty. We had the french onion soup, lamb chops, and pasta with lamb, veal, and beef. For dessert, we had a maple creme brulee. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Next to us was a quite difficult customer who kept asking for alterations to his dishes after they had been served, but she was very sweet and dealt with his rudeness in a professional manner. We will definitely be back for a third time whenever we are in the area!
Great old mill building. Nice job converting it into a cozy restaurant. Smoked trout app was wonderful.
This quaint restaurant has much to offer it's clients. It has great historic significance as it is located in an old Grist Mill. The food is excellent and the service is very attentive.
Fantastic food and service!
We have visited Hot Springs two times and have visited both times.
Our favorite place to dine! Our steaks were perfect! Tender and delicious! Rich caramelized French Onion Soup. Caesar salad with the best creamy dressing! Nutmeg ice cream paired with a dense chocolate cake sitting on a thick layer of Dulce de leche was a perfect finish.
Had an amazing time, all the food was delicious and wonderful. I look forward to coming back.
This was a superior dining experience. The Waterwheel is in a rustic, converted grist mill, but is decorated nicely & the dining rooms are small & intimate. The service & cordiality was excellent and never overbearing. My wife's osso buco with polenta, olives and mushrooms was very tasty as was my pasta bolognese. There is an extensive wine list & a wine cellar one can visit to choose a bottle. We need not get wine, but the cocktails were good (with some innovative options in that category). The portions were sufficiently large that we passed on several intriguing dessert items. Our only regret was that we didn't arrive early enough to enjoy the mill & running stream setting in the daylight. Give it a try.
Excellent wait staff. Very friendly and attentive.
We always have a great dining experience at your restaurant!
