Waterside District - Guy Fieri's Smokehouse
The food was tasty and our server was very personable. There were not a lot of tables and it was loud inside. It was strange there were no windows to view the water with it being on the dock. Was lacking ambience.
We were really excited to finally eat at a Guy Fieri restaurant and sadly, we were extremely disappointed! This place is now nothing more than an expensive tourist trap. Food is mediocre at best. Ribs and brisket overly fatty - almost inedible, sides of fries had clearly been sitting around and were cold. The best dishes were the non-bbq items— pasta and tacos! Service was decent but the server got lost a few times and items were neglected. We spent a lot of money on a pretty lousy meal!! Don’t waste your money— there are far better places to eat!
Guy Fieri's Smokehouse has great food, but it is very, very noisy. Don't go if you are looking for a quiet evening of conversation. The food and service are excellent. There were many families and younger couples. Don't bring grandma cuz she won't be able to hear you. Unless, of course, you don't want to talk to grandma.
Food was delicious. The chili was very tasty! Best I’ve had in a restaurant! Salads were good but to small. The burgers were HUGE. Got the Mac n cheese one. The pulled pork was delicious but the 2 slices of white bread was ridiculous. We sat outside because of the noise level. Flies were a problem.
The food was horrible. My corn bread was the worst I’ve ever had. Hard and crumbly, like a bird seed patty. My chicken was undercooked. My husband’s turkey was too salty. My son’s hamburger came between two slices of white bread; my daughter’s grilled cheese sandwich was a grease bomb and basically not edible.
When we arrived for our reservations we got seated right away. The serves was fast friendly and quick without being overpowering. Our appetizer the crab fries was delivered quickly with plenty of time to eat and enjoy before our entries arrived. The entries arrived all together so on one was waiting on their meal but I will say that the burger was ordered well done but was slightly rare but was not an issue. The value was just what I expected and hope to go back soon.
Really wanted the American coleslaw with the crab sandwich, but my server didn't ask what side I wanted so I got fries. All of Waterside is really loud, but the hostess was really nice to close one of the doors to lessen the sound. I was with my husband & brother, it was all our first time to visit. Portion size was great, loved the pretzel bun for the crab cake sandwich. I thought the crab cake was broiled or fried, but it seemed loaded on the bun like pulled pork BBQ and not hot.
All of this won't make me not to try Guy's place in Hampton, Va. I'll try the tacos.
Our server was wonderful!! However the food took a while, and it really wasn’t even warm. The trash can nachos were soggy and stale, the salad was drenched in dressing and had way too much topping. We also got the crab fries which were lovely but still not very warm when served and there wasn’t enough cheese sauce. It really just wasn’t worth our time!!
Waitress was nearly incomprehensible, hostesses seemed preoccupied. I guess I expected a higher level of professionalism. Food was great.
The decorations is very nice. The food was alright but didn’t impress me at all. The service was great, and even allow us to get a table ahead of the reserved time.
Great food and the price is decent for what you get. Not your typical BBQ spot. Plenty of options to choose from and they are all great. We have been here about 6 times and have not had a bad meal or time.
I expected much more creativity and flavor from Guy. It was very disappointing after going in with expectations of great food. It was very very ordinary. Well the food was, prices were well above ordinary.
Awesome service when I went the waiter was cool and funny.
Just average... expected something more... Portions were very good. Appetizer wings were the best part of the meal.
We asked for a table of 13 but were told it would be 45 minutes, we said we would separate into smaller groups they still said 45 minutes. There were so many empty tables. The hostest didnt seem to care or we willing to budge. A large part of the group left and we got a table for 5 within 5 minutes. I went on open table to make a reservation and one for 8 was available in 10 minutes. We did ask to still sit by each other since the 2 tables next to us were available but it didnt work out. We were able to all get in a table within 15 not 45 but that was because we did it not the hostest. Our server was amazing and the food was great
Guy Fieri's Smokehouse at the Waterside in Norfolk is very good with plenty of choices for all diners. It is quite noisy with lots of hard surfaces that reflect the sound. The food is excellent and overall the service we received was outstanding. It is an interesting location on the waterside.
The service was great until I let them know that my chicken was not done. Server took plate and returned with chicken that was over cooked and dry, and half the portion I had received the first time.
Servers were great and friendly and the atmosphere was great for a birthday party and drinks especially the Austin sweet tea were great. However, the food was woefully under seasoned and child like in some elements(gold fish as topping for Mac and cheese!!!) and was just not worth the drive nor the price. The steak tasted as if it was cooked on a wood fire grill and that was it, no seasoning or body to it.
Food was great. Service was okay, our waitress was rather forgetful.
Over priced and under whelming. Very expensive and small portions, we ordered the BBQ platter ($35) hoping to share and it was practically for just 1 person. The brisket was tough and gamy, the ribs and pulled pork where just ok. We also ordered the blue ribbon chicken and when they brought it was very undercooked, we had to return it and wait for it to be well prepared. Was expecting more from a Guy Fieri brand.
I have wanted to try this restaurant since it moved in to the Waterside District. We made reservations, showed up on time and were seated in reasonable time. We had a child with us and hot plates were set in front of him. The food took a long time to get to the table, the appetizer (trash can nachos) lacked in toppings and flavor (mostly chips with little else), my daughter's burger that was requested to be cooked medium well was brought to the table last (a while after everyone else's plate) and looked raw. It was sent back and returned less than 3 minutes later and looked to be microwaved. I just think if I was going to spend over $100 for dinner and I am in a well known chef's restaurant it would have been better. Maybe Guy should come re-evaluate his smokehouse!
Our server said I’m sorry numerous times!
We ordered chicken wings. The ones I ate were cooked differently. Some where done correctly, some needed to be cooked more. You wonder how that happens. We ordered 2 orders of the Motley Que sandwich. My husband ordered the Mac & Cheese instead of fries.
My pulled pork sandwich was overwhelming with a salty taste. The pretzel roll was dense and heavy. I could only eat half of the sandwich because I really didn’t care for it. I also tried the side of coleslaw and it was warm and tasteless. The fries were good but I can go to McDonald’s for fries. I do have one positive remark. I tried my husband’s Mac & Cheese and it was very good.
We went there for Father’s Day lunch. The food was decent bbq; not the best we’ve had by far. The brussel sprouts were good. The waitress was attentive. Our tables were wobbly and off-balance. While this is a small detail it was an annoyance. While it is by the water, there were no waterfront tables that I could see.
Food was great but service was AMAZING! We loved Sunni!
We expected more from this restaurant. My wife actually had to send her meal back and order something else. Cleanliness of the place was also lacking. All of the soap dispensers in the men's bathroom were empty - I can only hope the staff have a different bathroom.
It was good. Expected a bit more menu wise but creativity was good with each choice so a less is more approach kind of worked.
Good food and great service. Love it and can’t wait to go back :)
Great service! Delicious food!
I shared my review on the Facebook page. Will not be back.
It was ok, just like a chain. Kind of a disappointment, actually. The price was very high for average food and it was very loud for lunch time. Pretty bummed. I wouldn’t recommend it and wouldn’t go back.
Great service for a large party!
We were visiting Norfolk from out of town and met family here for dinner. We loved the brisket (coated with a mild pepper seasoning) , the andouille sausage, and the pulled pork. Ribs were not a hit for us (we prefer baby back with tangy sauce and these were quite different). We also had a farmhouse salad that was entree-sized (we shared) and it was super-fresh with a lot of extra meatless ingredients including avocado and chickpeas; I think any vegans in the group would be happy with this option as it was filling & yummy.
Service and food was superior! It was a bit noisy but again it was lunch time on a Thursday. The BBQ was outstanding!
Great!!! No complaints
My sons re-enlistment in the Navy
It was relaxing, only downside it was really noisy, music was loud and found our group having to try and talk over all the noise.
You won't be disappointed.
Our server came over to take our order, drop off drinks, drop off food and that was it. Never checked on us we had empty drinks almost the whole meal. it was our first time (and my husbands bday) and was just so blah. The server acted like it was an inconvenience to her for us to be there. Burgers were ok, nothing remarkable about them, but i always remember service so we won’t be returning.
Portions are massive, as is calorie count. Order wisely!
