I had an amazing experience at Waterbar on 4/12/21 at 1:30pm. The staff were very knowledgeable of the menu list and wine pairing, they were extremely attentive, and had impeccable customer service. The food was delicious, I had the Ahi Tuna, oysters, and tiramisu. I have nothing to complain about. Added bonus that they had a beautiful view of the Bay Bridge.
I have been a patron of Waterbar (and Epic) for many years, and I have never been disappointed. The seafood (and special mention for oysters) has always been fresh and prepared in such a way as to highlight the focal point of the entree. Never over-salted/cream/butter/etc. Service is a terrific and customer-focused without being fawning or bothersome. Cocktails are spot on, and the wine list is extensive and not prohibitively expensive. The ambiance speaks for itself, but again, the restaurant compliments the setting without being too obvious about it.
The following comments have nothing to do with the restaurant, but it bears mentioning that he landscape in which the restaurant is set has become concerning from a safety perspective. Living in the city, we used to either walk/ride public/Uber to the restaurant, but as we were running late this time, I decided to drive, drop-off family, then park nearby. I found a space on Spear really quickly and made the short walk to the restaurant. After dark was, however, another matter entirely. I left the family at the restaurant to go get the car, and on the trip I observed a entirely deranged man beating a park bench--next to the restaurant--with a golf club while screaming all manner of expletives, another man with his pants down standing underneath Cupid's Bow--he was also screaming, and once on Spear, a car with blacked-out windows followed me--keeping pace exactly with me as I walked. The car stopped when I reached my car, and I quickly got in and sped away. The car took off at a high rate of speed once I was in the car. Again, this has nothing to do with Waterbar, but everything to do with the safety of its customers. Not sure where to go from here, but if you're walking back to a car after a late dinner, be forewarned that it is not without its challenges.
Appetizers were good. Steak entree was not good. Very expensive and over cooked. Should have sent back. Service was great. View was great. Dessert was good. First time at this restaurant I might go for drinks again but now for dinner. Very disappointing.
Great food and service, excellent cocktail, great bottle of wine. I thought it was a little overpriced for what you get, but the quality of ingredients was top notch. Highly recommend for date, or special occasion. We had a blast!
Unfortunately I was harassed by a mentally ill homeless person and had to move tables out of safety concern
It’s been so long since we’ve been able to go out and dine. Waterbar was the perfect way to get back into the dining groove. Great food and wine, an amazing view and excellent service and hospitality.
We love hearing this GF8! Thanks for getting your grove back with us at Waterbar. Best regards, Rich T.
Great, Cesar, David, Ruch, Freddy and hostess.
This was a going away lunch for a very dear friend who is a regular visitor with me to Waterbar. Four of us needed to be together on a gorgeous Friday afternoon in San Francisco. After more than 13 years of patronage we finally sat on the upstairs outdoor patio. The new perspective on the bay was well worth it.
As always we started with the special oysters. They were perfection. They were large and plump and had a great taste of the sea. After that I had a wonderful halibut ceviche that I'll order again if I find it on the menu. Everything about it was fresh and delicious. For my entree I had the rock cod tacos. I don't thin anyone else fries as well as Waterbar. The coating was perfect and the fish tender and flakey. They were accompanied by refried white beans that are amazing.
To finish we shared the sticky toffee pudding. We shared because we were all so full from the previous courses. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I started the day with a new cocktail from the list called Day Spa. It's made with tequila, cucumber, and chili lime juice. With just a hint of heat it was a perfect beginning to a great meal.
Love to it DBA1! Our best, Rich T.
Lovely lunch! Reserved a table out on the patio with a view of the Bay Bridge. Oysters and lobster roll were fresh and delicious. Excellent service. The weather cooperated. It was glorious!
Great to hear and thanks FineDiner! Best, Rich T.
Sat outside- heat lamps available.
all COVID requirements followed.
Bottle of French Rosé - paired nicely with meal
Cheese plate: do not recommend as a sharing appetizer but sufficient for individual. pairs nicely with the sourdough bread
Halibut and scallops highly recommend!!
Sounds like a great dinner by the bay Croozeefoodie! Many thanks, Rich T.
Considering WB is coming up and out of CoVi, things are in good order. Service was slightly off (slow, mostly; not a serious issue). Go only for fish, highlights of the menu. Desserts are excellent. When in full swing, this is a favorite; special occasion prices, alas.
Our server Marcos was such a lovely person, the entire staff was very attentive and polite. Food was amazing compliments to the chef!
Thanks so very much Celeste! Rich T.
The service was very fast, servers were very kind and attentive and the setting was beautiful .
As always, it was a fantastic experience. Fresh oysters, great food, great ambiance. The wine list is extensive and well curated.
Appreciate it Travis! In May we focus on Rose and Ocean wines for the summer, come get some! Best, Rich T.
Wonderful lunch with a great view. Service was excellent. Social distancing was followed. They have a two hour time limit which is plenty to enjoy a leisurely meal with a friend.
Wine and food are good, but overpriced for what you get, based on other upscale restaurants. No parking or valet is available on site, so plan for a walk from other street or parking ramp parking. Wait staff was, at best, inattentive. I expected better for the incredibly high prices.
Beautiful view! Incredible ambiance/atmosphere! High quality food if you like seafood just limited choices!
We had a very special anniversary lunch here, outside. The service was absolutely outstanding. The right mix of friendly and efficiency. The noise level was only high because this lovely restaurant is very close to the Bay Bridge. There is a wonderful view. The outside dining situation feels very safe and is quite nice. This restaurant is expensive- as you'd expect considering the location.
Thanks so much for celebrating with us Laurien! Best, Rich T.
Buen servicio y la comida deliciosa, el mejor ambiente de la ciudad con una vista única!!
We received excellent customer service. The food was delicious. The view of the bay bridge was amazing and a great way to dine while in San Francisco.
Beautiful restaurant but the food is very average and very over priced. I would recommend enjoying a cocktail and appetizers there while soaking up the view and then heading somewhere else for lunch or dinner
Great night in San Francisco Bay! The services were exceptional. We enjoyed the date. Thank you!!!
The food is great! Love the oysters but the crab cocktail is amazing too! Definitely recommend for sea food lovers! The view of the waterfront and all of the people there are just lovely.
Lovely venue, good service, decent food. But omfg, this was in no way worth the price. There are far better options available
Wonderful spot on the Embarcadero — you can almost touch the Bay Bridge. Attractive shade and non-shaded areas outside, which was very welcome. The lunch was wonderful, especially if you appreciate seafood!
LOVELY WAY TO SPEND OUR EASTER HOLIDAY, THE MENU WAS VARIED, THE WHOLE MEAL OUTSTANDING.
Amazing food and service! great views. Would come back again
What a great place to celebrate an anniversary! Great views, delicious food and incredible service. Go for the oysters and any of the fish options. Can't wait to return.
We wanted a reputable seafood meal while visiting San Fran. This place was phenomenal. The views made it extra special
Terrific as always! The featured oysters were plump and meaty. There were new twists on old favorites. And the service was fantastic!
The service and views were incredible, but that does not compensate for the terrible food we were served. My husband and I ended up sick from it. Never again.
Lovely place with great views! The food was amazing, and the service impeccable. On the pricey side, but still strongly recommend.
Great food, very experienced waiter who know the wine list very well
We had a spectacular view of the Bay Bridge and shoreline from our table. Excellent service from the hostess to our servers. Delicious offerings (we had the oysters (two different kinds), squid and beet salad for starters followed by swordfish and halibut) perfect portions.
The COVID-19 conditions (two hour max at your table; 6 feet between diners; mask wearing; etc.) did not prevent us from enjoying a safe and wonderful dining experience.
Excellent cocktails. Food was all excellent. Good spacing between tables outside. Was a bit chilly (even with jacket, scarf & hat on). There was a standing heater hear us, but it wasn't giving off nearly enough heat to keep us comfy.
We love this place. Perfect for special occasions and nice dates. The food was amazing as always! A bit of a blip in service at first as the servers were all in a meeting when we arrived, took about 15 minutes for a server to see us but then it was seamless after that! Will definitely be back soon :)
The daily oysters were such a good deal! They had amazing attentive service and someone was there to serve us as soon as we finished a dish or drink. 10/10!
Love their Maine lobster roll & raw oysters, friendly & attentive service. Beautiful Bay view. My favorite SF seafood restaurant.
Amazing service with an exquisite view of the Oakland bridge
We love WaterBar, but we’re not happy to have to wait 15 minutes for an outdoor table that we had reserved a week in advance... Other than that, the food was excellent and the service good
