Walnut Grill - O'Fallon Ratings and Reviews
I love Walnut Grill and have been there for dinner on lots of occasions, always recommending to friends and family. I have never been there for breakfast, so decided to take a friend there. She ordered lunch which she had no complaints about, but the breakfast entree I ordered was horrible. I had chicken and waffles--menu should definitely designate when something comes with jalapenos all over it, the waffle was overcooked to the point of burnt, chicken portion is too small and the amount of syrup on the dish was non-existent. I was so disappointed! I never write poor reviews but felt it was warranted in this case. I can not recommend Walnut Grill for breakfast to anyone in good conscience.
This is the place to go if you want to book a private room for a large party. This is my 3rd large party to attend and every time the staff is professional, knowledgable, very friendly and never seem stressed taking care of 30 very loud women who are not in their seats! I love the chicken spiedini, the Farfelle chicken pasta and the spinach artichoke appetizer .
Food was great and the Service couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. I had forgotten to mention that we needed a table vs a booth and the staff made the switch for us in a relatively short time, considering they were busy with their lunch crowd almost at capacity.
They have unique tasty appetizers you won't find anywhere else. A little pricey, but didn't mind paying more for great service and food.
The menu was limited and the prices for what was being offered were on the high side. The dining room was very compacted and did become noisy. Also we had to wait awhile after our reservation for a table but people who walked in without a reservation were seated immediately. 3 groups ahead of us with the same size party.
Ordered meal after waitress assured me almost anything could be prepared vegetarian. After 25 minutes, she returned to our table to tell me the chef could not prepare the rice and grains vegetarian, as they were prepared ahead of time using chicken stock. I asked to have it prepared with water, and she relayed a message from the chef "no, cannot do that". He offered pasta as a substitute. As excited as I was to try this new local restaurant, it is now just another restaurant offering me pasta options. My husband would have enjoyed his chicken dish, had We been able to enjoy our meal together.
I had eight family members in my party and it was everyone's first visit to Walnut Grill. We were all impressed with the wide variety of menu options, the portions, and the quality of the food.
We were seated in a semi-private area, which was nice, and our server was friendly and attentive and management was kind enough to adjust the temperature and music level in our room to our liking.
I even got a free dessert for reserving via Opentsble.
A great experience!
My husband ordered rack of lamb which was served with bleu cheese on it so he sent it back. He also ordered a baked potato and was served macaroni and cheese. They remade his lamb, which he said was undercooked, but was afraid to send it back again for fear it would be spit on. The new rack also had mac and cheese. He finally got his baked potato. My salmon was delicious.
We made reservations, but there were many empty tables for a Friday night.
I haven eaten at Walnut Grill several times. The hostess/managers always go above and beyond to help you have a good experience. The servers are hit and miss. This time our server was highly attentive, even when he was extremely busy and things out of his control weren't going well. At a previous visit, the service was terrible. I ordered a filet MR and it came out MW. They did a great job of handeling it though. I would definitely return!
Probably the best chicken spedini I've ever had! Great beer selection and unique dishes a plenty. The patio space was nice and would be great for a happy hour with friends. My husband went for brunch on the weekend and loved the Bloody Mary and mimosa bar - a very nice touch! We will definitely be frequenting this place.
Being a good coook I am often disappointed in the quality of food at many resturants. That was NOT the case here. I was very pleased with the portion size and the flavor of the dish. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
This was my first time to Walnut Grill in O'Fallon. We went on a Monday night for an early Birthday dinner. It was busy, with a kids movie night in a private room with a free kids meal while the adults had dinner. Our three meals were very good and service was excellent. A manager came by twice to see how we were and gave us a free dessert for booking on open table. We would recommend and look forward to going back for lunch as their salads looked great!
Ants all over the outdoor bar (and then me, and then the food). Very slow service, and when I asked to speak with the owner he never came out. Very disappointing, as I've been here before and had a good experience. I'd hope that the proprietor would want this feedback so more customers wouldn't have this bad of an experience in the future, but it seemed he didn't.
Went there twice in a week.
The first time, we went there because they had gluten free options and were close by. They forget the dressing for a salad; took about 20 minutes to flag down the bartender to ask for it. He told a helper to grab it for us, the kid never did it. About 10 minutes later, the bartender went back and grabbed it himself.
Really, dressing on a salad should be automatic thinking for the kitchen.
Later that week, my parents wanted to try it for their anniversary.
Met for dinner, the server was average but super friendly.
We ordered some sangria and three of the you pick two deals.
Two of the three meals were cold.
This is unacceptable, especially because the waitress never came back to check on us, where we could say our food was cold.
We ate it and just wanted to leave.
Bad meals from the same venue twice in a week is terrible.
Between both meals, we spent over $150.00, in my book, it was semi wasted money for bad food and semi okay service.
Unless they change and step up their game, I will not be back.
My husband & I wanted to try a new place for our 35th anniversary! The food was delicious! It was a nice evening, so we ate outside. There was a little background noise but they had good music playing (not loud) It would have been perfect if the outside dining could have been secluded from the parking lot, hwy & restaurant next door. The great food, service & experience was well worth it. Kyle answered all our questions & was very attentive. He was an excellent server. We tried different dishes & we enjoyed everything! Prices are reasonable. We were also surprised with a anniversary dessert. It was too beautiful to eat, but we did & it was yummy!
Overall a good place to eat. I took my husband there for Father's Day. I had heard good things about the place and wanted to give it a try. Service was excellent. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. She attended to our every need. The food was ok. I had the wild mushroom chicken which was bland and had to much sauce. We were only able to pick from one vegetable item (broccoli and asparagus blend). It was ok. My husband seemed to enjoy his roasted chicken and loved the beer selection. Although we ate inside, you had the option of eating on the outside patio as well. Because we made our reservations online, we received a free dessert which was a welcomed surprise. The manager also stopped by to thank us for coming.
Tried the Fathers Day brunch. Thought it was a novel idea but end up being not as good as we thought. Recommend either go full/true brunch or just go regular menu only. Also had doors open for outside seating which brought bugs flying around where they had some of the food (fruit, desserts, salads, etc).
The food is always delicious and fresh. However, during a recent busy brunch time, the quality of the food was not as good. The plates were hastily put together when they are usually very neat and appealing to the eye. I do not think we will return for brunch, but certainly a great place to go for lunch or dinner. Lots of beer selections and a nice bar.
Service was a little slow but waitress was super nice.
The food was fair and that is about it. The ahi tuna tacos were good but it was served with basically soy sauce...same with the chicken lettuce wraps. Both of these dishes were served with the same basic soy sauce. A Thai sauce or something similar would have changed the flavor game. The Asian sauce game needs major improvement. The Parmesan encrusted chicken gnocchi was a little overdone. Crust was burnt in spots.
One plus they had great drink specials.
