About this restaurant

  • Vegan-friendly
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
Inspired by American mid-century continental-style fine dining, VULTURE is a resurrected institution of yesteryear, revisited through the eclectic possibility of today. Elegant, inventive plant-based dishes honor the sophistication of the past and reveal the daring potential of the present. Classic and forgotten cocktails are reclaimed and re-oriented, dignity intact but with charm and character amplified.

VULTURE is a fertile oasis, a secluded nest amidst arid convention. You will be roused by its audacious originality and comforted by its strange familiarity. It is the home of the best dinner party of your life, and the most fussed over Martini in the city.

To arrive at VULTURE, walk inside our storefront micro-diner named DREAMBOAT, where our Maître d' will be waiting for you in the back of the diner.

Incredible aesthetic experience--it was glamourous and moody, like a combo of being in the red room in Twin Peaks and a Victorian steakhouse. White tablecloth and uniformed servers--just throw in a jazz band and you have yourself a first-class establishment. VULTURE deserves to be filled to the brim and become a longstanding "it" spot--but only if they can nail their menu. The service was pleasant--our servers took good care of us and were attentive. Maybe it's nitpicky, but a little more refinement and less gen-z/millennial San Diego "chill" (hair pulled back for the person who made us our caesar salad, for one) would elevate the experience. I appreciated the white jacket uniform; it matched the aesthetic concept. Offering parmesan or ground pepper would also add to the traditional service experience for a restaurant of this kind, especially because some of the entrees needed a touch of parm. Food execution was good, but not great; with some hits but more misses, we were left disappointed in the value for the high price. Vegan restaurants are under tighter scrutiny, so they need to nail their price:taste:portion ratio--with consistency for every dish. Reviews on dishes: 4/5 Bread rolls and fennel pollen butter (knocking a point for price, but otherwise PERFECT) 5/5 Crab cakes: fantastic! 2/5 The Beyond steak: dry, needed more sauce, and with only two spears of asparagus, was skimpy. 3/5 The cassoulet didn't have any traditional sausage or meat in it, which confused and disappointed us. While it was very tasty, it was literally just a bowl of beans with some veg toppings--not a cassoulet. 1/5 I do NOT recommend the tableside Caesar salad; the dressing was unfortunately tart from the lemon, lacking in richness and fattiness that (I assume, as a lifelong vegan) a traditional Caesar has from anchovies and eggs. 3/5 Rum cake: good flavor, but too dry and did not fully soak up the rum. 4/5 carrot cake was nicely spiced, but it wasn't anything special.

The drinks and food were excellent! There was a power outage unfortunately when we were there, but the staff did their best to do what they could. Everybody was so nice. The ambiance is great.

Really well done here at Vulture! Fun going in through the back of Dreamboat Diner, much bigger than I expected. Service was good, but don’t expect to get in and out in an hour. It is an experience. Highlights-tableside Cesar, crab cakes , steak Diane and the chef’s pasta (Agnolotti with cheese, red sauce and hints of lemon…really to die for delicious and a reasonable portion). But everything we had was good. Drinks were also well prepared. Fun and yummy! Definitely bring your wallet…but worth it.

Everything was done well, as you would expect from a “date night” type restaurant experience. Each dish was carefully prepared, beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We ordered the Rockefeller, and the meatballs as appetizers, and the Diane, the Oscar and Piccata- as entrees—all delicious and very rich. My only negative comment, is that the dishes are all so rich, that you should have the option of having the sauces on the side, and perhaps also offer a spicy accompaniment to amp up the flavor and cut the richness. There should also be salt and pepper on every table- ( and I notice this trend at restaurants to leave the salt and pepper somewhere in the wings. ) We also had the baked Alaska, and the “ meringue” was amazing. All in all, a very special experience.

Lovely space and excellent food. Service and timing needs some work, but not bad, just prepare for a leisurely evening. Crab cake and bolognese are amazing

Amazing experience on all aspects! Service was attentive but not too much, food was incredible, and the decor + ambience is the stuff dreams are made of! They’ve thought of every detail and I can’t wait to come back!

I celebrated my birthday dinner at Vulture, and it was a bit of a rollercoaster. First, I have to mention that the French onion soup was absolutely the best thing ever - rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. The ambiance was lovely, and I was greeted with a sweet birthday postcard, which was a great start. The appetizers came out quickly, and we were hopeful. But unfortunately, the entrée (a mushroom “steak”) was essentially just a mushroom with jus, which we expected because that’s what was on the menu. But it looked so sad on the plate - no sides, not much substance, and for over $30 it felt like a letdown. The chef’s special (a smoky carrot puree pasta) also missed the mark so badly they took it off our bill (which was really appreciated!). Service was slow overall, and the entire dinner stretched to two and a half hours, which wasn’t what we expected. The dessert, a baked Alaska, was wonderful - definitely a high point at the end of the meal. Prices were on the higher side. All in all, I’m a fan of Kindred and Dream Boat and still want to support them, but I’d give Vulture some time to iron out the kinks before heading back.
