I'm confused ...
My reservation with Viva was canceled via email as they stated they no longer do business with Open Table. It was difficult making a reservation after that. And THEN I heard they were actually closed for renovations... (scratches head)
I think there are severe communication issues between you and Viva.
Additionally, how is it they are able to accept reservations during the times they are closed for renovations??? They should close this part down.
I ended up celebrating my 57th birthday at home. Less stress...
I was so disappointed in Viva, I made a reservation over a month ago for my husband's birthday. My reservation was cancelled 2 DAYS BEFORE due to "renovations". I was extremely frustrated that I had to scramble to get another reservation. I also emailed Open Table, if they could help and I did not receive any response. I was also disappointed in the way Open Table handled this. I would never give them a second chance even if Viva decides to reopen
The restaurant sent me a text confirmation and had required a credit card for the reservation. When we got there it was closed!! We had Friday pre theatre reservations and when we found another restaurant to have dinner they told us that Viva had closed
It’s doors on Wednesday night- yet while they wanted credit cards for reservations and then pre date text confirmation they could not be bothered to notify us!
If this is the wY they ran the rest of their business it is no surprise they had to close their doirs
Love this place! Very energetic and love the dancers and live music
Poor service, food choices limited, not a great value, seemed like the server’s main goal was to get us off the table to have more customers, not going back or recommend it. Was told not a great place but wanted to try it anyway
the worst experience. took a reservation for 7pm and they weren’t open on a thursday.
The waitress was so rude. She screaming to us because we pay 15% tip and she wanted 20%. Her behavior was unacceptable and unprofessional.
Everything was good. Our waitress could have used at least one smile. Looked like she didn’t want to be there
The side dishes were outstanding, but the reason we couldn't give an outstanding review for the food was because the tacos were a bit too dry - not as flavorful as we've had at other places, and the salsa trio (which is a signature option) was really not good in our opinion. There were three salsas to choose from, but we didn't care for any of them. That was an opportunity missed in our opinion.
Terrible service! Employees have a bad attitude! Toilets broken, bathroom doors cracked and don’t lock! Manager unprofessional. This place is a dump.
We enjoyed our visit to Viva Hollywood. It was our first time there and we were delighted by the ambiance. The music and crowd were great. The service was good too. We ran a little late, but they still honored our reservation without a problem. The downside was the portion of food. We had chips and salsa, and they were probably the smallest portion of chips and salsa we'd ever seen in a restaurant. The plates of empanadas were pretty small too. Though they were tasty. Overall, we were happy since we had a great time. More of place to go have a few drinks and dance salsa :)
In search of a fun place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, my boyfriend and I settled on Viva for the festive holiday. I have to admit, I was pretty excited about going since I'd considered taking my boyfriend there for his birthday and because a good foodie friend of mine from out of state had recommended it to me. The restaurant is just beautiful and has been transformed from its dark, moody look when it was previous restaurant Beso. It's bright, chic and has a lively atmosphere, which only picked up as the night wore on.
We were seated promptly after checking in with the restaurant's hostess and were seated near the performance area in a nook that felt a little more private. Just as we were sipping our water and reviewing the holiday menu, the hostess came back and said, "I'm sorry, I need to reseat you. I put you in the wrong spot." I was none too happy about this and I'm sure my face said the same, but we moved a few seats down and ended up next to a large open booth. When we were first seated, it was fine, but soon after a large group was seated in the booth and it literally felt like we were on top of each other. The tables were so close that we could hear their ENTIRE conversation and we could barely squeeze between the two tables to get out for a jaunt to the restroom. So, needless to say, we weren't starting off the best.
Overall, some of the food was okay at best and heavily overprices and the margaritas were TERRIBLE. The bright spot was the churros with chocolate sauce. Another bright spot ... Angelo Pagan and his live band! When I say, Mr. Pagan and company put on a show, they really did. While the band played lively Latin music (mostly salsa and a little bachata), Pagan sang and danced like there was no tomorrow. He was really fun to watch and the band was really on point. When you're visiting here, it's good to know what you're getting yourself into.
Expensive for what you get. Cool venue but not great for dinner. Better place for drinks an appetizer and dancing is the vibe.
We had an amazing dinner at Viva Hollywood for our best friends bachelorette dinner. Our waiter was excellent, attentive and helpful. The food was impeccable, from the plantain chips with guacamole to the carne asade tacos. The live band was also the cherry on top of a very fun dinner! We love Viva and will be back!
Amazing service! We arrived late and they were so accommodating in getting our food to us quickly so we wouldn’t be late for our show. Thanks Viva! We’ll be back!
Food was good, but really pricey for what you get. This is the first time that I've ever been to a Mexican restaurant that requires you to pay for your chips and salsa. Oh...and the size of the chips is about equivalent to a dessert bowl. Guess what, you need more chips...$3 every time you need more. Kind of ridiculous. The portions are really small. I ordered Carne Asada and it looked more like a filet mignon with one tortilla. I think if they plan on staying in business they need to step it up a notch. Our server was nice, but wasn't very attentive. Not sure how this happened, as there were only like 3-4 tables dining that night. Needless to say, won't be back.
The place is lovely. Our server Mac was great! She joked with us and made great suggestions.
I had such a great first experience because of the live band, live dancing and great music! Although, I was very disappointed with the size and price of the meals! The food was so expensive and the plates were so small, like snack size meals. I could not believe it for the price of the food. Next time, I plan on eating before arriving to Viva Hollywood and just enjoying the dancing.
For it being the middle of the week and dead restaurant service was poor. We were a small easy table that did not bother the staff with million annoying requests like asking to take 20 photos.
It was my birthday and I was disappointed this establishment did not offer something more than "happy birthday" to me .
We were missing many basics at the table including set ups and salt and pepper. When we requested these items the staff brought us back a few cocktail napkins and said they could not find any salt. How can a restaurant not have any salt ???
Female server was not welcoming and even made some weird impolite comments about my friends sweater in front of everyone.
We tried this spot before a performance at the Pantages. Figured, worst case scenario would be a good margarita and chips and salsa. I mean, it is a Mexican restaurant. Honestly, worst margarita ever. Even after they remade it, it wasn't much better, although completely different than what was first served. Food didn't leave us wanting to come back. The entrees were the best of the meal, with a more than passable chicken mole. Not nearly as pretty as the pictures online, but tasty. The fish was fine, but the sauce was tasteless. Appetizers were very underwhelming. We will keep looking for alternatives for before a show.
Great food, order "tapas" style and share 3 or 4 items. The chicken adobo and short rib flat bread were amazing. Service was great, when they came by friendly and attentive but staff seemed to like to hang out and chat with each other behind the bar.
We got there a little early, they had music blasting so loud that you could not hear yourself think.
But I will go back, several more things on the menu I want to try.
go for quality not quantity. the portions are smaller than when it was beso's but the ambiance was better and the service was good. a good pre-theatre outing for sure!
Perfect place for people who want to dine and dance after.
Love this place for dancing and drinking. It was kinda frustrating making reservations for a large party. The person that was supposed to call me to make arrangements didn’t call me till the day of. Which is very stressful when your trying to plan a large birthday party.
Bad from the beginning to the end.... I guess it was not the best spot for food... my steak was simply ridiculous! Service bad too...no wine list....so got a bad wine we don’t even what it is...defenitely one of the worst value on my list ...
Music too loud to have a conversation it’s a restaurant not a Club! Not attentive at all food runner brought our dessert we asked him for a cup of coffee he said I will let your waitress know he was nice , he went to tell waitress she send him back to tell us machine was broken no coffee I think she should of came to us and let us no since she was the waitress not the poor food runner , overall experience not impressed and not a good one !!
Ambience is very good. The food is hit and miss, and feels like it was done in more of an assembly line style, rather than a cook preparing your entree individually.
Bar is severely lacking. Very limited in drinks, only 2 or 3 draft beers, only 2 bottled beers.
Dance floor is small and next to tables with people eating, close enough to bump and knock things over.
Good music, good dancing.
This was the most horrible experience we had. Been to this place with friend once before, really liked it, food was small but ok, music was great. So decided to go for Valentines To have diner with husband. made reservations month before. As we walked in hostess seem to be confused where to seat us. Finally gave as table behind the band. Music was the worst salsa band I ever heard. Loud as hell. Place crowded people just stood over our heads. It was fixe menu 75 per person. As we start ordering waitress told as they just run out of what is on the menu. Called maneger. They tryed to change our seat and reassured that everything else on menu they have so we ordered something else. Again waitress comes and tells us they don’t have that ether. So it’s already hour and half I’m trying to order food. and why should I pay 75 per person if they don’t have nothing that is on the menu. Anyways we got upset and left to other place. Thanx for ruining our Valentines diner ViVa. Horrible service, horrible music, cant organize an event!!
Great Guacamole and plantain chips as well as chicken mole with corn and rice. Highly recommended!
Love this place, finally a good Spanish music lounge in Hollywood!
Great fun, lively, all age venue, we went Weds for the salsa live band, great fun, and great area to dance. Does get a crowded. Fish tacos were to die for. I did lose my bag with my black dance shoes in, still waiting to hear from Viva Hollywood Staff to see if they found them. Apart from that it was great. Oh and $20 for valet parking was a bit steep..
We went to an early dinner as we had tix to see a band close by. It was pretty empty, seems they do a bigger late night bar crowd. The food was good, but super memorable. Everything was ala carte, including ships and salsa, I guess can be expected in Hollywood, as it seems geared to tourists. It was pricey considering the amount of food we ordered. (not much) The Gaucamole was good, and the salsas were tasty. The various chips for dipping were unique as well. Service was also good, but there werent many tables to tend to. Parking was VERY expensive-valet. But not much choice in Hollywood.
Love the Wednesday nights with Angelo Pagan band. The food was great. Our beautiful waitress was kind and always available. The Margaritas delicious. This time they gave us a great table behind the curtain. Felt very VIP. 🙏❤️
The food, service, cocktails and atmosphere was AMAZING! We had an incredible time!
Danced my face off for my birthday! Great place! But the portions are small.
Too expensive and the salsa band sucked . Bathroom too small people hit you with the door. Valet too much
Very expensive for mediocre food. You're paying for the scene-y Hollywood environment more than anything else.
The food was average. The enchiladas were lukewarm when brought to table. They did not have wine and were out of the tequila for the old Hollywood cocktail. We selected Viva for location -close to Pantages. The best thing about Viva that night was the free parking because we were seeing Hamilton. Disappointing.
