It was so loud in there that I could not even hear the waitress. I asked about Music being less than full blast and she did not take the time to go ask the DJ. I specifically asked about not having spicy and she brought me a salad entree with a dressing so spicy I could not eat it. I asked for more water and she did not bring another container until we were almost done with the meal. So I'd never go back on a night with a DJ as the place is just too small for music that belongs on a dance floor nor would I ever want such bad service.
Great! Who expects memorable Mexican food? Everything was unique and delicious. Our server Cameron was great too. I bet it’s even better sitting outdoors. We’ll be back when it’s warmer outside.
Great place with great atmosphere, food and service.
The reimagined Virgils Cocktails and Cocina did not disappoint! From the moment you step in you can tell there is a different vibe, vision, and influence that they are going for compared to other establishments in Raleigh, and that’s a good thing. We started off with the guacamole and chips and moved to the al pastor and shrimp tacos. These will be familiar to those who have had the same tacos in the past. Very good portions and fillings of meat/ additions, with great flavor. The fried plantains with Chile vinegar stole the show with just enough sweet with a complimenting heat from the Chile. Each drink was well crafted and you could see the attention to detail + experience is being focused on. The Margarita Estacional was the perfect way to kick off the evening. The touch of seasonal fruit accompanied with the house sour was a great blend. The ambiance was energetic and low lit. It had the feel and vibe of a big city restaurant that was on everyone’s must try lists. Overall we had a fantastic experience and will be going back to try other drinks and full entrees. Highly recommend.
Overall, I would say this place is hit or miss depending on your palette. We ordered two mains and got an appetizer for free because our food was taking so long - but not at the fault of the restaurant. They were out of something in one of our dishes and warned us ahead of time that it might take longer than usual. They brought us the free app and talked it up a lot, saying it was their fav app on the menu but to me it was BEYOND bland. Like you could not taste anything. Our main dishes were good, but spicy! It was almost like they needed to take some of the spices from my dish and put it in the appetizer. Overall, if I went back I would pass on the app and just stick with the main. Its definitely not a restaurant that you go back to explore other options. You stick with what you know is good. I got the braised pork sopes and again, while spicy, it wasn't intolerable. I would order again!
Good food and service!
The food was great and atmosphere was nice. Service was exceptional and cocktails were superior. Will definitely go again.
Staff was friendly made great suggestions and the food was awesome
Menu changed and updated menu is not on open table
I would not return for food. The food was terrible but the drinks and vibe were great.
It was cold in there
But the food was great
We had never been to Virgil’s before and we were very impressed. The food had an authentic flavor and it was fantastic. The staff was very helpful and made us feel very welcomed.
I honestly cannot say one good thing about this place. Don’t waste an evening or your money dining here. It’s simply bad.
Food was outstanding! Vibe was very cool. They serve a legit, authentic Mexican inspired menu. Tacos are definitely a big part of the experience but the cocktails and entrees were to die for! I highly, highly recommend!
Great good. Staff was awesome. Food and drink were great as always!!!
Best fried avocado taco I’ve ever had! Highly recommend!!!!
It was good. I didn't know you could buy just the tacos and had to instead do the meal.
Good food. Casual atmosphere.
Delicious food and drinks- I got 3 tacos (chorizo, al pastor and the carne asada). Chorizo taco was my favorite but they were all good. Solid service and a great atmosphere. Can’t wait until my next visit!
Food, drinks atmosphere amazing!!
Tacos were great, other entrees were not so good
It was awesome. For good tacos I highly suggest it! Plus great drinks. I had the Frida Kahlo and it was the perfect it’s hot outside cool down drink :)
The food was amazing!!! Well worth the price and the service was top notch.
We sat outside so it was quiet. Food was good, service was great
Awesome tacos!!
We had a great time at Virgil’s!
The avocado taco was my absolute favorite! The flavors were so good together and they weren’t deep fried - just lightly breaded which was nice.
My only complaint was their outside seating was kind of rough. The tables have wide slots in them so our salsa spilled and our guacamole almost fell over. If they could update their patio furniture this place would be a solid option for good Mexican food!
Loved the vibe and aesthetic. Great food, solid drinks, nice staff.
Service was a little slow, but we didn’t mind because the drinks and food were FAB - piping hot tortilla chips, tacos were super flavorful and filling! Not to mention the 80s & 90s music playing was great, I danced through my entire meal!
Great music. Great food.
Always enjoy the food quality at Virgil’s. The house made tortilla chips are amazing. The service was particularly slow and chaoti. during this visit. We were seated in their adjoining “sister” restaurant with a speaker installed right over our table. The music was particularly loud so conversation was a challenge. Still enjoy this establishment and will revisit...but will ask for a table in the main dining area.
Great atmosphere and cute vibe. I loved the black beans but wasn’t a huge fan of the fish taco I got. Definitely could have used more flavor overall- I used a lot of hot sauce
Great service, drinks and food. Only downside was the tortillas split open making the tacos difficult to eat. Flavor spot on though:)
The food was excellent, best tortilla chips i have ever had. My one issue-the waitress brought our check as I was starting my second taco. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we hadn't been there an inordinate amount of time. I felt a little rushed.
This was our first and probably only time comin here Food was okay, not great. Got two mojitos that were on special, both tasted completely different from the other. Waiter was awesome, hostess seemed really distracted when we came in.
Well, I went here once at maybe 1:30 in the morning and it was still open and the food was great. I decided to come again for my birthday dinner because I enjoyed the ambiance and food. When I first went the chips and salsa was free, and I was surprised when I had to pay for chips and pico this experience. $6 is very over priced for Chips and a Pico that was less than appetizing. I was excited for the queso because it’s one of their specialties. Well, they were out of queso and the server also informed us of them being out of shrimp tacos. The waitress really tried to offer different food and some were good, but others were disgusting. The tostones were good, a little tough to eat, but once you figure it out they are great. We had the Steak and Chicken ones. The Carnita tacos weren’t authentic carnitas. Carnitas are shredded pork and the ones they served were cubed and way over cooked. The cilantro rice was over cooked as well and surprisingly cold. Even the free birthday churros they gave to me were over fried and brick hard. I was very disappointed and surprised at the quality of food. Also, the location isn’t the best. Parking wasn’t worth the hassle especially when the food wasn’t that great. All in all, I want to try it again but the over priced chips and salsa, and the cold unappetizing food was just disappointing especially for a spot that’s supposed to specialize in Mexican street cuisine.
Great food, even better cocktails. The El Duderino is like a White Russian with a twist (HORCHATA!). Servers were wonderful and gave us recommendations that we loved! This will be our date night spot in the future!
Food is so good! Tacos are authentic and chips are fresh and delicious!
Best carnitas tacos I’ve ever had! Great atmosphere, excellent food, kind servers, and I’ll be back soon!
the best queso we have ever had, love the casual atmosphere and the fresh quality of the food!!
Delicious as always. Chips are unique and queso is amazing. Tacos are filling and have been spot on each time. Amazing drink selection- Mexcal, cocktails, and beer (except draft/craft beer).
