I really like the peaceful energy in this transformation of the old Chavez space. Lamp shades, soft music contribute to creating a calm friendly setting for thoughtfully prepared and presented food. The service was a bit slow, otherwise this visit to violet was a great experience.
Delightful find. A pocket gem on 12th.
Will dine there again.
Superb, all around
Decided to try Violet with friends based on a Seattle Magazine write-up; the write-up did not do it justice. Incredible, creative “American omakase” food and extremely accommodating of various dietary restrictions at our table. Excellent drinks as well, not to mention an incredibly enjoyable table visit from the chef/owner. We will absolutely be back.
Service needs to improve. The appetizers were really really good. The plating on these needs to improve. The food is so good but the plating is not inviting. The entrees were disappointing. The only vegetarian dish in the entree menu was the asparagus risotto. The dish was soupy, the rice was not cooked to perfection and the asparagus was crunchy and not well done.
The pineapple dessert was great. The presentation of the dish needs a lot of improvement to be more inviting.
Violet is excellent including food, waitstaff, bar, physical space. Ambience is friendly, not fussy, which requires a delicate balance.
We are frequent diners and always bring a new person/people with us. Their experience has been similar to ours and many have returned.
Thanks so much for Violet.
This was absolutely wonderful. The chef came over and explained the dishes to us and actually gave us a free appetizer that was not on the menu because he wanted us to try it and experience the dish. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fine dining with a casual atmosphere. The food was unbelievable was well
The appetizers were very good, the entrees were flavorful but tough (duck and steak).
The large table next to us was very loud and the waitress spoke softly. The chairs were stiff and upright. They had the large garage door open and it was one of the cool nights so overall the ambience was not very good.
The food was excellent. However, we made a reservation for 8:30, but had to wait at the bar for almost an hour before getting our reserved table.
Fantastic dinner! Definitely a top restaurant in Seattle. This was my third time dining here for dinner and each time I was very impressed with the food. I also really like the space. It is small, sheik, comfortable and airy and just has a really pleasant and cozy feel. I highly recommend giving Violet a try!
Food was delicious but portions slightly too small for price and group size
This was my second time to Violet and the great service and food were repeated. Team honored request for a table in the corner to accommodate father-in-law who is hard of hearing. Wine list is reasonably priced and entrees were beautifully plated. Vegetables and salads were crazy fresh and the house salad is a standout winner. We will be returning soon.
Terrific food with great attention to detail. Highly recommend
Food was very tasty, though 3 of us ordered the duck, the portion was much smaller than the lamb and steak portions and all 3 duck orders were cold since it was sliced very thin, it sat while our other orders were being plated. Timing is everything!
This is my third time to Violet and I have found my new favorite restaurant in Seattle! It took me a while to get to Violet, since I loved its predecessor, Chavez, and was mourning its loss. However, Violet is nothing short of amazing in everyway! I was so pleased to see Brenda continued from Chavez as the head waitstaff . She is a class act in every way--gracious, knowledgeable, and lovely to be with. Brenda makes the dining experience extra special. I love what they have done to the place--and it is beautiful with the warmer weather. What a wonderful selection of craft cocktails and wine. And then there is the food! The chef and owner, William, is astounding! The attention to detail, the taste and the food quality, the presentation--all A+. This is one of the finest restaurants in Seattle. Hurry in before it becomes so well known that you won't be able to get in. If you really want a special treat, order the chef's menu! It is made with love and care, and presented beautifully. I can't say enough about Violet!
Great spot. Chef serves up interesting combos and flavors. Not a fan of foie or strawberries, but I really enjoyed the foie with strawberry dish. Chef is that good at combining flavors and showcasing interesting dishes.
We have eaten here twice and the food has been exceptional both times, from starters to dessert.
Remarkable food and experience. We had the lamb and the duck and both were cooked perfectly. The sauce and accompanying vegetables on both were outstanding. The real surprise was how excited we were over our appetizers, a simple salad and a beet carpaccio. They were exquisitely prepared and every bite was a treat. It would have been a 5 star review if the room was just a little bit quieter. We opted to sit at the bar so we could hear each other talk instead of a table for 2. But that won't stop us from going back!
First time at Violet & it was wonderful! food, service were excellent
Perfect small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Steak and lamb cooked to perfection.
One of my new favorite spots, can't wait to go back!
William’s effort was exceptional for our part of 6. We were happy to share a glass of wine together. We will definitely return often, since it’s only a 5 min walk from the Link Light Rail station.
Food was fantastic and service timely and helpful.
World class food on Capitol Hill - great curated wine list!
The food tasted good but the portions are very small. What they call a entree is actually half an entree. And the size varies too! The steak is a good size but the salmon was 1/3 the size of the steak. If the salmon is that small don't call it an entree!!
Outstanding! The tasting menu was fantastic!
The lamb chops and duck breast were outstanding. The scallop appetizer was taste and the salad was good but a little small for $9.00. The food was beautifully presented. The wine was very good bu the prices were high. We're all about the food so we will definitely be back.
It was great and Seattle needs this restaurant to be successful. Fills a niche with high end food.
Violet was an unexpected discovery we made searching a place to have a nice dinner in a neighborhood on our vacation. We were blown away by the personal attention of the staff, including the chef/owner who stopped by because he noticed my husband looking at the menu after we'd eaten. The host/server was excellent, friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, and atmosphere was perfect for our evening. The only thing that would've made it better was a sign outside so our Lyft driver and we could have found it faster, but it was overall a terrific experience and we recommend it to others.
We love Violet so much! The chef is amazing and works with our dietary restrictions. Cocktails at great. The omakase dinner is totally worth doing. Once we found Violet, we can't stop going back. 6 out of 5 stars!
Get the American Omakase. It was a wonderful experience and the food couldn’t have been better. Looking forward to a return visit.
Great service! The beginnings were the best part of the meal, the Spanish tortilla with Kim chi was amazing. The entree portions were quite small for the price especially the risotto. Overall great experience and fun spot.
I had a spectacular experience at Violet. Why, you may ask? Here, I'll tell you:
-Easy to make a reservation for a last-minute Happy Hour adventure.
-Patio in the shade, so not too hot to be outside. (They eventually opened the large garage doors that separate the interior dining area, which was a lovely aesthetic.)
-Our server was attentive, so pleasant, and quick.
-Chef William Belickis came around more than once to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and ask about the food. He knew us both by name, which was a fantastic attention to detail.
-The food is delicious.
-The drinks are delicious.
-The prices are reasonable.
-The location is fantastic.
Overall, super happy with our choice to dine here. I will absolutely be returning to try the tasting menu (5 courses for $85) with my partner, a big foodie. My friend and I ordered a plethora of delicious food and felt that we got quite the bang for our buck, but I'm optimistic that the quality of food on the tasting menu will deliver for the price. I have the highest of hopes for the future of this restaurant and hope to return again and again!
Thank you, Violet!
Our table of five enjoyed four different entrees(steak, chicken, sea trout and lamb). All were delicious. Appetizers were also very good. Service was just right. The owner was very gracious and friendly. It was a lovely dinner and we will definitely be returning.
Brought a friend from the UK. My second visit, had a variety of the small plates and the chicken entree- every single last bite was delicious- chef/owner William checked in on us as the meal progressed. Simply an unexpected delight in every way. Relaxed and friendly impeccable flavors, my new favorite place
Took my wife and a few close friends here for her 40th birthday. The food was unbelievably good. Possibly the best dinner I’ve ever had in Seattle. William, the owner, came out to our table and gave us a bit of his story starting restaurants and his philosophy for how they do food at Violet. They went out of their way to make us feel special and even helped us get out in time to swoop her off to a surprise party at home on time. An emphatic 5 starts for William and everyone at Violet.
Nice restaurant with an “urban cool” style and open street feel. Fantastic food that weaves a delicious theme of savory flavors, aromas and smooth textures throughout the meal. Beautiful presentation. Food prices moderate to expensive, but well worth it. Good selection of well priced wine that are all excellent. Service is uneven, but sincere. Highly recommended.
Was a perfect venue for an afternoon dinner date with my bf. Great service and great food as always!
I usually don't write reviews but I feel it's important to warn others that the food portions at this restaurant for the prices they charge are absolutely ridiculous. A $30 entree of fish will yield you a 2in x 2in square of filet. I couldn't believe how small the portion was and I would've stormed out if I wasn't so hungry. Their $15 octopus appetizer consists of 1 small tentacle and ~2 or 3 potato halves. This place is super stingy which is sad because there were some good (not great) flavors. My recommendation would be to avoid this place if you care about value.
