I was giving my husband a small retirement party and booked at a different restaurant with outdoor seating. When we arrived it was cold, cloudy and very windy and we were put at picnic tables, which I do not like. We decided to try to go elsewhere but it was a Friday night at almost 7:00 and we were a party of 9. We called Village Bistro who said they could accommodate us, inside as we wished. The table was all set up for us when we arrived, and from then on we had a terrific time. Our server was attentive and professional, and the food was very fresh and flavorful. We shared the grilled octopus, grilled artichokes and empanadillas to start and everyone loved each dish, followed by salads and mains. My daughter and I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked; a couple of others had the cioppino and declared it fantastic, another had the mushroom pizza and ate the whole thing. A great experience, we will be back!
Food was excellent. Service was friendly, although a bit disorganized and slower than you’d expect. The location and outdoor experience more than made up for it, though. Definitely recommend but don’t go if you’re in a hurry.
Arrived for our 7:30pm reservation early, we asked to be seated on the patio and we were. It was not very busy, but not empty, very nice, and we loved the menu and the look of the place. Our waitress took our drink orders right away and when she returned she took our order, which was 3 tapas plates. It was probably 7:40 at this point, if that. 10 minutes passed. 20 minutes passed. More guests came in and were seated. Our waitress finally came back to the table to refresh our drinks and to assure us that our food was on the way out. No drinks came. More time - 30 min had passed. Our waitress is now avoiding us. At least 2 tables of guests who arrived well after us are eating their food. After 40 minutes we finally flag down the hostess who says she’ll get our waitress. Our drinks have been empty for awhile and we are STARVING. The waitress finally comes back, and we literally begged for something to eat and drink. She brings drinks. FINALLY nearly 1 hour after we ordered simple small tapas, our food arrives. We had ordered the a small plate of sliced flank steak medium rare. It was gray. It was cold. The 3 scallops were good. I ordered another drink in the hope it would arrive before we finished our food. I looked away and when I looked back I realized that the waitress had taken my half full cocktail when I had ordered the new one. The small bowl of meatballs in sauce arrived some time after we received the first 2 (why?) and one of them was charred (think a gristly chewy bite). We were so excited about this date night, our first since covid started, and we drove 50 minutes to try this place. We voiced our complaints after we had been sitting for 30 minutes, and then 40 min. We complained again about the steak and asked the waitress (kindly) to communicate it to the kitchen. At no point were we approached by any manager or anyone other than our waitress (when we were actually able to see her). Incredibly disappointed and unhappily surprised. Avoid.
Our reservation was at 7:00. We ordered around 7:15 and an hour later we still didn’t get our food. A few couples came in after us and were served way before us. After an hour of waiting we left.
I have never had a restaurant experience quite like this. Clearly understaffed in the kitchen, but when you’ve waited 50 minutes for a cheese plate and not had even your waters refilled it’s reasonable to ask for the check. First we asked the hostess for the check and she didn’t know what to do, then we asked our waitress for the check and she blamed the kitchen. Some of my favorite meals have been at restaurants with a backed up kitchen, when the server makes the best out of the situation and at least keeps the drinks full. My husband’s beer was straight up warm. Our server took zero responsibility for our experience and we won’t be returning.
The food was very fresh & tasted great but I wish the portions were bigger since it was somewhat pricey. Both the indoor & outdoor seating areas are nice but the outdoor is next to the street so you get cars driving by. A minor issue was that the bread wasn't brought out until the entrees arrived.
Absolutely wonderful experience for my birthday highly recommend!
The salads were okay. They were mostly lettuce but the dressing was tasty.
The ahi tuna had was bland. The swordfish special was plentiful but the fish was rubbery in texture——a sign it was not as fresh as it should have been.
The waitress was efficient and very pleasant.
My first time there and it was delicious! Ordered the frittata. It was amazing!! I will be back to try dinner!!
Love the paella, salmon, and tuna dishes.
Best brunch ever!
I love visiting the village bistro. The only drawback is not be able to take advantage of the happy hour specials outside as the weather is breaking. Other than that, the experience is always great!
Food was good as well as the service the kitchen was very slow. We arrived at our reservation for 7pm and didn’t leave until 9:30pm. Each of our appetizers came out 1 by 1 with 10 mins of separation. We also didn’t receive our appetizers until 50 mins after ordering them, along with our entrees taking an additional 50 mins to receive as well. The atmosphere was great along with our server but the kitchen was very very slow. Overall 3 out of 5 stars.
I don’t usually do reviews but since we had such a bad experience and the manager didn’t care I’m writing. I understand the issues with less help due to COVID. How long it took to get our food wasn’t a huge issue. What was was the lack of paying attention to the special order and the delivery of food for the three guests. In person in our party needs gluten free. We made this know and our waitress noted that our order should have sauce on the side. My husband ordered the tomahawk steak which is pricey. His steak came out over cooked and the two small plates for my friend and I did not come out. My husband was finished with his steak and we had to ask about our food. You can probably guess that the sauce was on our meat when it finally did arrive and my friend could not eat it. Did I also tell your that the steak on the tomahawk was off the bone and cut so you couldn’t not even tell if it was a tomahawk and didn’t look like much meat? We were outside and said we were getting cold and could they turn on the fire pit. We were told they would work on it. Next thing we see is a heater being brought to another table. We ask for the check and it takes too long to get after a very frustrating experience. We get the check and we are overcharged for the tomahawk! The manager never once came out to speak to us! When I went inside to confront about the bill he did not care. He said it was a special but that wasn’t the case. Their menu has the price at $115 for the steak and they tried charging $125. After the experience you would have thought they would have made some sort of concession. Nothing! Didn’t even offer a drink or dessert. Nothing taken off the bill for the food errors and service. I have been here before. Even in the fall of 2020 during COVID trying to help people stay in business. I’m embarrassed that I recommended this place to my friend and will never visit again. It may not matter to them but you should know about this poor experience.
Excellent food great service. Will definitely come again!
This was my 4th time going. Twice with a large group and twice with small family group. Each times was perfect food, great service. Friendly owner and service staff including the bar service. Nice ambience. Clean and well maintained. Have tried multiple dishes and loved them all.
I've dined here on several occasions. As always, the food was really special (the salmon was simply stunning!) But, it took over 45 minutes from the time I ordered until the food arrived.... meanwhile, I saw other people, seated after I was seated, be served. And, the staff definitely was interacting with the "regulars" and leaving us "non-regulars" alone. All in all, it was a frustrating evening. Getting comped with a glass of wine for having had to wait so long for a meal that was not very complicated to prepare helped... and, yes, I will return, because the chef is definitely talented! I will simply hope that the service side of the restaurant improves.
Even on a very crowded Mother’s Day, we were taken care of in an efficient and personal manner . Our server Alex was nicely attentive. We had a lovely time. Very upbeat atmosphere!
Waited 1.5hrs for entrees...asked for check so we could leave.
Mother’s Day celebration with my Mom and my best friend and her Mom. We had a wonderful day! Beautiful live music, plenty of space and very friendly patrons nearby. Morgan, our server, was lovely, accommodating and efficient. As was the hostess and others we came in contact with. Our drinks were mixed perfectly the quality of food was very good. We even had dessert since it was a special occasion. Thank you for treating our Moms so well!
This is our second time to the Village Bistro. While the food is okay, the service was bad on both occasions. Guacamole is great. Meatball appetizer wasn't brought until an hour later, along with our entrees, so we sent it back; could have been good, but we'll never know. After ordering, waitress came back to say they were out of Sea Scallops, so order changed to Salmon. Both the salmon and the NY Strip steak were over-cooked. There are too many great restaurants around to give them a third try. Lastly, what's with the belly dancer? How does she fit in with the theme? Money would be better spent on additional servers, and some basic training.
Appearance was great, but the service was awful. Waited too long for drinks and never received our appetizers. Main entre was very good. Ordered desserts and we never received these as well. In the middle of our quiet dining experience, music randomly came on which was so loud that we couldn’t have conversation. This music was due to the restaurant having a belly dancer walking between table. A rather poor experience. Due to the main course tasting good, I’d be willing to give it one more try.
Food take a while, but I understood it was short staffed. The belly dancer was great and helped take our mind off the food. The quesadillas were very good! The cosmo was very sour.
The food was so good, but the restaurant was understaffed. The server was excellent, but had too much to do to give a 5 star review
Fantastic friendly great food. Can't say enough about the village !
Anytime I can get tasty grilled octopus, excellent paella and a cold beer together, it's bound to be a great evening! Staff was super-attentive. (Thanks Lester!!) Will definitely be back!
A perfect brunch spot. Loved the ambiance and the food is excellent.
Great food. Great service love the village! Highly recommended it
Perfect place for Easter brunch! Food was excellent and the musician they had was excellent!
Great staff. Interesting menu. Stylish decor. Best patio in nice weather.
This was our first visit to this restaurant. We will definitely return to see what it is like on a less rambunctious evening.
Plates are small...we had 4 guests and ordered 5 tapas...not enough! And they were expensive. Drinks were iced/watered down. Nice ambiance, but that was it. Not going back
Great service if a little bit overbearing. Due to Covid the restaurants are nearly empty. So our waiter was kinda hovering over us. The food was great though.
Great selections and al food was cooked to perfection
The food was fantastic as well as the service. I would definitely recommend.
What an amazing meal and experience. The outside does not do the inside and the food justice. It is our new go to place!
Excellent cocktails. Very nice comfortable patio. Close parking. Walking distance to the shoreline.
Not a good experience, my best friend and I went for dinner on a Friday night. 1- There was no one really there, for a Friday night that was odd to me. 2-the shrimp cocktail tasted off, can’t explain but it did. 3- I ordered the steak and frites and the steak wasn’t seasoned much, My best friend ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp in it and ask for the dressing on the side and the doused her salad and dressing.
Pro’s- great drinks and service but won’t be back.
1st time there. Sat outside side. Food and staff were fantastic. Took a look inside. Dining and bar area looked warm and inviting. Going back soon.
