The meal we had at the Venetian restaurant in the Hotel Rialto in Victoria, British Columbia was excellent! We had the Brussels sprout apps, and we each had an entree, and all of the food was excellent we would eat there again no problem!
Very friendly and attentive service but the food wasn't great. Very expensive for the portion sizes. Only 1 steak option and it was strip loin for $42. My chicken was ok but all the sides were too salty. The dessert was inedible (I wasn't charged) which is a first for me as I have a big sweet tooth. Panna cotta was tasteless and covered in stale granola. The restaurant is lovely and staff was great but sadly the food wasn't good so we won't be returning.
The table before to the kitchen should be given at last or have noisy cancelling / sight wall or doors would be advised. Overall, it was nice, friendly staff.
Good: Seated promptly (had reservation). Very noisy in bar area, but restaurant level noise were good.
Fair: Pasta was overcooked and extremely peppered. Resembled 2nd day pasta upon arriving (ie. not freshly made). Specifically came to restaurant for this dish as it had been excellent in previous visit.
Needs improvement: Advised waitress we were sharing plate yet came in one big bowl. Would have expected this to be done in kitchen (two plates were provided at table but separating pasta is a messy job at the table). Won't be visiting again anytime soon.
A few more choices on the happy hour food menu would be welcome, as well as at least two choices for happy hour wines.
Otherwise, we love the place, and Barbara, our server, was great.
Thank you Veneto, we will be back.
Dinner was extremely tasty with great service and divine desert
Had a very lovely evening
It’s become our date night spot! The food, service, cocktails, wine... everything is always spot on! We’ve never been disappointed. Bring back fresh truffles ;)
First time there, no complaints at all. Would be back soon.
It was outstanding! I can never eat out because my allergy list is extensive and they were able to modify and create new dishes for me. They were even able to custom make alcoholic beverages that tasted amazing!
Valentine's special 3 course meal. All dishes were good to very good. Sunchoke and endive salad was outstanding. Nice room. Not too loud. Lots of couples on dates on Feb 14.
The lamb was unbelievably delicious. Every dish was art on a plate. The alcoholic drinks were overpriced and the table too small for my liking. I am only complaining because dining here on a regular basis is out of my league! 😆 Top-notch experience overall...right down to the filtered drinking water. Very cool history of the building in the basement.
Nice place and bartender/server was friendly. The ambiance could do with some work, as the place looked a little boring. The reception at the front wasn't very friendly when I entered. Ordered some chicken for my pasta, which I didn't get, but the server made up for it by giving a discount. Would have preferred the chicken though, but the wait for it night have taken too long.
We had a very enjoyable dinner at the Veneto Bar Ristorante in the Rialto Hotel. Food was very good, service was excellent. Nice atmosphere too.
Impeccable from start to finish. Elegant but casual. Inventive but comfortable. Choose between the cozy restaurant or the vibrant bar. Really a gem in downtown Victoria!
Very pleasant atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. Food was good but not outstanding.
This place has a great atmosphere, great cocktails, amazing food. I will definitely be back again!
Drinks excellent, food great but menu changed from last visit so not as much to choose from for my palate. Service excellent. Brown butter cake was dry.
I had a Dine Around menu meal - Celeriac and Buttermilk Soup, Squash and Apple Risotto, Carrot and Brown Butter Cake
Everything was delicious, though I found the risotto was even better at home when the flavours had melded a bit more. Rice wasn't perfect, but it is wicked difficult to do risotto and it did taste good. I will be back for sure.
The food was excellent, but the best part was the server - who's name I wish I could remember for this review - that made plenty of helpful suggestions, while being fun and fast too.
When we were seated someone came by and threw napkin wrapped cutlery at one end of the table. ..not placed in front of each guest.
Waitress was uniniterested in our dining experience throughtout the evening.
No one checked on us or how we were doing.....we had to ask for more water.
No one thanked us for coming in.
And the credit card hand held was set... at its lowest tip amt of 18%. Now I understand that you can manually add a lower amt, but you are at the end of the meal, you are finishing a conversation, you want one more sip of your overpriced wine, your dinner guests are putting on their coats, so you end up just pressing the 18%... when the uninterested, throwing napkin, never coming around with water, and no thanx for coming in waitress only deserves a new job.

We had a very, very pleasant evening at Veneto. We arrived as the dining room was starting to fill and we noticed the positive vibe grow around us as we enjoyed nicely made and quickly served cocktails. Our server was attentive and was always there when we needed her. Appetizers were exceptional, beef carpaccio and cold smoked prawns, taste was perfect and the dishes were cooked to perfection. Followed up with steak, carbonara, wild game hen and vegetable tagliatelle. All perfect. The only chardonnay by the glass on the menu was the lone disappointment. Quite expensive and not a match for the tasting notes. That aside, we loved the two and a half hours we spent in this beautiful dining room and look forward to a future visit.
Love having share plates of sumptuous tastes. The quantities were perfect for two of us for dinner. Truffle fries are outstanding, the carpaccio lovely and the brussel sprouts perfectly seasoned and charred. Always love coming here.
Wonderful dine around menu
AMAZING food. Very creative and innovative dishes combining many different ingredients. Must try this place!!!
Late NYE dinner with partner and another couple. We shared two appetizers, each got an entree and two drinks, then shared a dessert. Total was about $85CAN per person, which for us Americans was an amazing value. Couldn't have been happier with the experience- delicious food, quiet ambiance but not too quiet, lovely.
This is one of the best restaurants in Western Canada. I look forward with great anticipation to our return visits. I love the ambiance, the wait staff and most of all the food. I look around at my fellow customers and think "All these people are about to have one of their greatest taste experiences ever!" Their food and their wine pairing educates my palate. This is an amazing food experience in a a lovely atmosphere.
Friends and I visited Veneto for their special 3-course dinner on New Year's Eve and it was exceptional, as always. Delicious food - I had the wild boar and loved it - attentive but unobtrusive service, and a lovely ambience. And the wine was perfect. We were a big group and didn't feel at all rushed, despite the busyness of the night. It was the perfect way to enjoy a special and relaxed NYE dinner. Thanks, Veneto!
Only for Shared plates (appetizers)! The vegetable tagliatelle had no mushrooms and actually had one clam (??). The seafood squid ink risotto was especially bad- contained very little arborio rice left as a mass of 'black melted cheese and butter'. Was told that the risotto would not be charged when in fact it was the $8 dessert that was not charged- Quite disappointed as the service was otherwise exceptional.
Server was a bit slow and inefficient. Our food took forever, but was good when it finally showed up.
Our experience was not 100% as expected. Each of us felt slightly underwhelmed with each entree we chose. The panzanella salad was hardly a salad at all. Especially at $20! We did however all LOVE the octopus. Job well done! The service was friendly and warm from the minute we walked in and we greatly appreciated you being open on Christmas Eve. Lastly, it was hard to tell why the food took over an hour and thirty minutes to arrive. The restaurant was not entirely full but perhaps there was some behind the scenes issue we obviously were not aware of. Thank you for reading.
Veneto was a delightful surprise. The dining area was spacious enough to have privacy between tables. The service was really good. The carpaccio was delicious. Definitely will be back.
Restaurant "side" lacks any atmospheric flavour. I wouldn't sit on that side again.
Food was quite good. Well seasoned and good depth of flavours.
Service was unattentive, but not un-friendly.
Overall, it has no liveliness that the "barside" does.
We arrived a few minutes early and our table was ready. We had the carbonara, bolognese, winter salad with scallops and one other of the dinner salads. Everyone was very happy.
3 stars only because we had a confirmed reservation using OpenTable only to arrive and find out the main restaurant was closed for a private function. The staff seems "shocked "we had a reservation at all. They did accommodate us in the bar area where we enjoyed a five star meal with great service.
We had table reservations but stopped at the bar for a predinner drink and we ended up staying at the bar for the meal because the bartender was OUTSTANDING. Jamie (James?) concocted drinks for us on the spot and then let us know how he made them. He was attentive and certainly knew his craft. The food was excellent with the only complaint being the pork was a teensy bit dry, but the sauce more than made up for that deficiency. If it was acceptable to lick the plate I probably would have. We’re going back very soon, and I think every time we visit Victoria we’ll be stopping in.
Great menu and cocktails. Options for vegan and and gluten free patrons. Attentive staff.
We were seated right away as per my reservation, so that was nice. The server was very friendly, but took a while to even get our waters. She came by twice and said she would get us more water, but we hadn't even had any yet. My partner ordered a wine, which was fine. I ordered something "non-alcoholic, citrus and frothy" from the bar, and left it in the hands of the bartender, which I've done before and have been very satisfied. Not this time though. It was a small glass of extremely sweet and flat orange juice/syrup. I ended up pouring it in my water glass and drinking it that way. My partner ordered the salmon, which was good. I ordered the vegetable farfalle. It was super oily with very little vegetables in it. The pasta was way under cooked as well. I could only get through about half, eating mostly the vegetables, which were mainly artichoke harts. I've been here before, and have been entirely happy. This is the first negative experience I've had at Venetos.
Hi Blair, Our deepest apologies that this was your experience with us. This issue has been brought to the rest of our Restaurant and Bar team and we will continue to work with our team to make sure this never happens again. Thank you for taking the time for the feedback. Since you have come in before and enjoyed your time we hope to see you again so we can get back to impressing you.
It was overall a good experience, food was delicious and I love the decor. The service was very slow though, took 25 minutes just for our drinks to come and 45 minutes from arrival for our food. If you’re in a hurry let them know, or you might not get finished in time.
Hi Linda, We are happy to hear that you enjoyed dining and the atmosphere of our restaurant. In regards to the wait times I have brought this to the rest of our restaurant management team and we will work with our staff to make sure that this is dealt with. We are continually looking to improve and value the time you took to provide this feedback. We hope that the next time you come in we can do a perfect job.
Food and service were excellent but the restaurant was very busy so we had a long wait for our food. Some in the group required substitutions because of food sensitivities. There was no hassle about these accommodations, which was much appreciated.
MMMF, We are glad that the food was worth the wait and everyone was able to get the accommodations they needed. We hope to see you soon!
