Made a reservation show up to St Regis and told velvet buck wasn’t even open and they only had breakfast offered in the morning. Horrible Sunday “brunch” reservation for my boyfriend’s birthday
Even though we booked at velvet buck, the restaurant was closed and they just directed us to the hotel Lounge which had an entirely different menu and different ambiance. They didn’t even explain until we asked if the limited menu was for velvet buck. Pretty disappointing when paying St Regis pricing
No one let us know that the velvet buck is only open for breakfast despite them taking reservations for dinner. Instead they just seat you in the bar in the St. Regis. Give you a very limited menu. The food was fine but not what I was expecting and wasn’t worth the price.
We sat on the patio, and the ambiance was so nice. The braised beef short rib with gnocchi was absolutely to die for. Maybe one of the best meals I've ever had. Can't wait to go back next time we are in Aspen.
They took reservations for the Velvet Buck but then told us it was closed and moved us to the other restaurant. By the it was too late to make other reservations in other really nice Aspen restaurants. The other restaurant was nice but NOTwhat we signed up for
I assume there was an issue with service on the night we attended Velvut Buck (new staff?). It took 10 min for a waiter to come see us, he did not introduce himself nor offer specials, it was a quick "what can I get you to drink?" I had questions about the wine list that did not sound like I was going to get an answer. Another 10 min goes by, we flag the hostess and she says she will get a waiter to us soon, five minutes later nothing/no one in sight... we left. Unfortunate and I assume they were having a bad night.
I am so outraged. Opentable let’s you make a reservation for “The Velvet Buck St Regis Aspen”
The Velvet Buck is not a restaurant. It is ONLY a breakfast buffet that closes at 11 AM. We showed up for our dinner reservation at 730 PM. Dressed up and ready. We were then showed two seats at the lobby bar. I turned to the lady and said we had dinner reservations, and that we did not want to eat in the front lobby bar. She then informs us that the Velvet Buck is only breakfast and that the only restaurant in the hotel is the “social mountain lounge” which is in the lobby of the entrance. Outrageous. We will NEVER EVER stay at the St Regis again. The restaurant is a lobby bar?! I can get that at a courtyard Marriott. Absurd. This whole establishment is a SKIP. We got up immediately and left and went to Bosq.

Absolute nightmare of an experience. Outside seating, no lights. Needed 4 candles and still couldn’t see my food. Server used phone lighting to serve dinner. No space heaters, so it was cold. Waited an hour for the food and they brought all the courses at the same time. Food is expensive like everything else in Aspen, but the difference is it isn’t great. Most places here are awesome so now I know why I keeping seeing this restaurant available for last-minute reservations. Definitely pass.

Birthday breakfast could not have been more perfect!
No manager ever in sight and obviously didn’t care. Had dinner in July during Covid but kitchen and server not coordinated at all. Nice table well apart from other guests on patio on a beautiful summer night. Ordered a $90 bottle of wine and after 15 minutes server came back to say they were out of that one so brought something she said was comparable. Things went down hill from there. We ordered a Caesar salad to split and a filet and two sides to also split since we had a late lunch that day.
During the 40 minute wait for food to come we asked for bread and got cold toast like you get for breakfast in England. Food finally came all together, we thought it was obvious we wanted salad first. Steak and sides were warm not hot. Steak was excellent quality, sides were burnt and had no taste. Very disappointed and will never go back to dine although did enjoy the hotel and will come back and stay but will eat in the many nearby restaurants that have great food and service and have managers on duty.
Amazing food, super attentive waiter. Anticipated all of our condiment needs and our coffee was never empty! A perfect experience.
A beautiful room and excellent service. We shared the escargot with a garlic butter candle which is unique.The pastrami spiced short rib and Korean spiced Brussels sprouts were both outstanding.

While the ambiance was nice, we were the only table for most of the dinner. We were treated well but the staff was very curious to know about our lives as we were not staying at the hotel. The food was good; however, it is worth noting we were not asked the temperature of the wagyu and had to have it recooked. Overall enjoyed but these were our notes
The food and service are outstanding!! The ambience is a bit meeting room or ballroom like. It’s not what you would imagine based on the name of the restaurant. It could use a more cozy western atmosphere IMO.
Exactly what you would expect from a restaurant in the St. Regis! Perfect service and perfectly prepared food. A surprisingly good value as well! Will definitely return!
Absolutely delicious food with great service!
We came in with a hockey team and the staff was great in accommodating us. The buffet selection was very nice just was not prepared the $42 per person buffet price.
Good food, no atmosphere and the server did not know the menu. Wine sommelier disappeared so we could not discuss and second bottle of wine.

But we were with a child,and most of the restaurants we went ,the food came always quickly for them.
And 55 minutes after our order they came to tell that the filet I have asked had finished!!!

I asked for my granddaughter meal and they told they would asked to be made!!!
How can a child of 6 years old could wait for another hour to eat!!!

Poor service, waitress forgot half of our food and drinks. Started taking orders at one end of the table and then moved to the opposite end for no reason. Food came out cold and took too long.
If you want the ambience of Denny's with screaming infants and the prices of a Michelin 3-Star restaurant, then the Velvet Buck is for you. Otherwise, stay away! St. Regis Aspen touts the Velvet Buck as fine dining but it has a limited dinner menu, nice but totally untrained waitresses, and management does nothing to try to isolate families with misbehaving, screaming children from the rest of its dining guests. I hosted my adult family and guests at the Velvet Buck for what I hoped to be a special holiday evening, but instead I was totally embarrassed by the unpleasant dining experience but still got to pay $80 per bison steak and $20-25 per drink with no apoloiges or regrets from the management upon leaving the restaurant.
We expected much more from the Velvet Buck. There was nothing memorable about the food although it’s good. It’s just not what we expected being housed within the St Regis. The service was very good - nice and attentive. The ambiance was lacking - there was non descript music playing on a low volume, very high ceilings, very low energy. It’s a quiet place. Compared to other restaurants in the area, the Velvet Buck doesn’t measure up, especially for the price (over $800 for 5 with two bottles of wine).
Spent over 600 dollars for what should have been an over the top delicious spread for Christmas. Instead my son ate a roll and green beans as everything was so odd it wasn’t pleasing. Nothing was outstanding. The dessert buffet was cute in appearance but taste wise, was not delicious. It was the worst meal I have ever had in Aspen and we were so surprised as it was the most expensive and I used to live there and also come every year for Christmas now. Next time we will book regular restaurant reservations instead of hotel banquet food.
Poor service. Waiter took FOREVER. Could not get the order straight. Ended up over billing us significantly. At the end, the manager felt so bad for us we ended up not being charged at all. For a St Regis restaurant, pretty poor experience - Skip this restaurant!
The food was outstanding, especially the meats. It was kid friendly too.
I was greeted by name upon entrance by Kiran, the host. The wait staff was very pleasant and efficient. I had a Ceasar Salad, with 4oz Salmon addition. The Salmon was very tasty, the salad was average. Bread served was very good. The ambience, environs at The St. Regis...are the highlight.
We enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet and enjoyed everything, all tasty and great variety. Good value for Thanksgiving in a pretty and festive setting.

I went back for breakfast and the breakfast food was great and service was too intense , meaning they asked me if I needed anything else 10 times. Next time they should let the guest enjoy their food .

Quite unfortunate. The worst Chef and Management on the planet! Our server, Chris did the best he could, under the circumstances he was given. I asked for a fried egg with NO yolk. WAY too much for the chef to handle. Simple solution, bust the egg yolk and fry both sides. His/her lack of listening to the customers needs and not staying his/her own course, was his colossal failure. Plate was returned three times. Finally asked for a scrambled egg, well. Received a runny scrambled egg. Any other restaurant would have had a manager check table side. No one showed except for the server's who were the face of the disconcerted, yet cordial customer, while the Chef hid behind closed doors.
It’s pricey, but very much worth it. The food was sensational! My wife who has a very, very discriminating palette could stop going on about the braised short ribs. I tried the king salmon and very much enjoyed it as well. The skin was seared to perfection. The more you enjoy mash potatoes, the more I would encourage you to try theirs. I dare say, they were the best we have ever found 😃
