Varsha Indian Kitchen
Varsha is food. Varsha is family.
Located in historic Chinatown on the corner of Gov't St. & Pandora St. in what was once, one of Victoria's earliest theatres.
Awesome food & service.😊
Good Indian food in a nice little restaurant, we appreciate
Food took about an hour to arrive. Server was great. Food was average.
Had a great dinner with the family at Varsha. Ordered loads of food, everything was tasty and we had a good amount of leftovers for our work lunches the next day. The happy hour wine was great and went well with the food too. I would definitely recommend!
So disappointed. Five of us were unhappy with the quality of our meal, other than dessert which was enjoyed by all.
3 of 6 dishes we ordered were not good at all. Avoid chicken tandoori (it is not even close to what tandoori should be like), the pakoras (they were burnt) and the broccoli (served like a huge head of broccoli that we had to ask for a serrated knife to make bite size).
The dinner and ambience was fantastic. We really enjoyed the meal and will be going back soon. Service was excellent
Excellent dinner. Fast service. Unique menu. We will return.
The appetizer Cauliflower 250 was so delicious. I cannot stand cauliflower, but I ate way more than my fair share! Would go back just for this dish. The Lamb Curry was my favourite! Wasn't a fan of the flavour of the butter chicken but the others at my table loved it. Rice was perfect and the sweet Mango Lassi was delicious. Would definitely return as it was a delicious and casual experience.
We really enjoyed the food but unfortunately would have liked a second beverage round at our table. The staff were friendly but perhaps short staffed? They seemed very busy. The portions were a bit smaller than I remember...
Food was rather slow coming out and a table that arrived after us got their food well before we did. But the staff was friendly and the food very good. Will definitely go back.
Awesome food. Great service.
Fabulous downtown spot with great food! Staff are most friendly and helpful.
We had to wait 45 mins for our order. We specifically asked our server to bring us dishes as soon as they are ready in no particular order, but all our food arrived together. All of our dishes were cold when they were brought out. The broccoli was severely undercooked and served in an inconvenient size. The Malai Kofta gravy was sour/tangy (not what it should taste like) and the kofta balls were very hard and dry and hadn't absorbed the gravy at all. The Vegetable Pulao was decent and so was the Paneer Tikka but overall we didn't have a good experience.
Great food. A little slow for server to show up but good service from then on. Annoying flies, food very good, too long between courses as kitchen seemed overwhelmed since a very busy Sunday evening. Worth a repeat visit, needs to be a little cleaner.
A great place with some great food and lovely staff.
My butter chicken was tasty but the lamb and beef curries the rest of my family had were not enjoyed. In fact my daughter didn’t finish hers. She said it was hot (spicy) which she’s OK with but there was no flavour. My husband agreed. I had been to Varsha a few years ago and found the food was better then. I was disappointed as we were there to celebrate a birthday and it was my choice of restaurant. Our server was good.
Worth a visit. Good food and friendly service. Walking distance in downtown Victoria. Butter chicken was awesome. Fish pakora mediocre.
Fantastic food, and the service was very good. It's casual, and a little noisy, but it's on a busy street. My only real issue is that they don't check OpenTable for reservations. It turned out we didn't need one, but if they had been full, our reservation was NOT on their radar.
GO. The food is amazing.
Recently open table has changed the way they contact us when it comes to reservations, they used to phone us every time we received but now they don't they just send it to us via a app on a phone, we have asked multiple times to come up with a better solution but nothing has happened yet. You aren't the first one this has happened to. Glad you enjoyed your meal and our service and thank you for dining with us.
The people in the front of the restaurant are professional and pleasant. However, the same can not be said about whatever goes on in the kitchen. One of the things that we ordered was Chili Chicken. This is fried chicken with a chili sauce, meaning that both items are separately made. My husband likes such stuff whereas I don't. I requested that the two items, prepared separately, could be served separately: fried chicken served separately alongside the chili sauce. That way I could also enjoy the fried chicken sans such sauce. Apparently I was not the first person to make this request, because the waitress immediately responded "No, they won't do it." I then asked if I misunderstood how this was prepared, separately or not. It was, in fact, prepared separately. So why wouldn't they give us the item separately? You tell me. This makes no sense.
Fricken amazing! I may never be able to enjoy Indian food anywhere else. My bar is set very high now.
Its the best Indian food in town! We go here all the time
Always a pleasure to eat at Varsha! Friendly service, colorful, hot and delicious food, and a vibrant environment. What more do you want? Thanks!
Tasty, excellent Indian food … delivered and served with friendly and timely service. Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Great food, bit of a wait for a reserved table and food. Would recommend
Excellent Food and Fabulous Service. We have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. We will definitely return again! Thank you!
The food took a REALLY long time to come out, they were busy but didn’t really seem busy enough to justify how long the food truly took.
Dine around menu was OK, the server didn’t tell us it charged more to upgrade to a veggie burger and the dessert wasn’t good. Wish I just ordered the veggie burger.
It’s unfortunate though, I usually love Varsha and think it’s quite good but this experience was poor. My boyfriend and I planned on coming back for our Valentine’s date (like we did last year) but that has changed now.
Service was great, servers were friendly and helpful. However the best food items on the table was the samosa and masala fries and dip, just sides. The lamb burger was bland and dry and tasted like the patty had been frozen or wasnt quite fresh. The butter chicken was uninspired and lacked spice. The broccoli pakoras were oversized (baseball sized) and lacked seasoning of any kind. Sad to say that I won't be going back any time soon. Nice people but poorly executed food.
Recommend you don't sit close to the door. Door is slow to close, cold air came in
The small amount of meat on the Tandori Chicken was very tasty. I have never been served french fries in an Indian restaurant and 2 or 3 leaves of lettuce don't really make any amount of salad.
The wait staff were very good and the ambiance fine.
We really enjoyed our meal. Excellent food and good service. Also good value. Thank you!
Great food, ambience and service. One of our favourite places to go for Indian food.
We enjoyed a great, casual dinner at Varsha. They have a very diverse menu, ranging from traditional Indian, to Indian fusion and burgers. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a fun, tasty Indian meal in Victoria!
The food was absolutely yummy! Need I say more? I went with a small group and everyone was well pleased with the flavours, portion size and presentation. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. I have only two small criticisms. The service was a wee bit slow at first and a large TV showing sports is not necessary in this type of establishment.
While the food was fantastic our server not. Our group of 5 ordered and watched MANY other tables seated after us receive food before we did. Also half our food was assumed to be appetizers when it wasn’t, meaning half our table was without food the whole meal either from eating it before it gets cold as an “appetizer” or eating alone because you only ordered a burger and had to wait for the other (smaller) “main” dishes to be served. I waited for a refill on my cider for over 20 minutes before giving up on flagging the server and having another water. The whole table was irritated by the lack of communication from the server and the fact that she didn’t even address the appetizer mixup made it worse. An apology would have gone a long way. I know Tuesday night teams at resturants are usually not the “A-Team” because you want them working the weekends but this was ridiculous. The restaurant was busy but never so much so that they turned people away, and Tuesday or no they needed to step up to a busy service and failed to from our tables perspective.
Will I go back? Hell yes the Pakoras are phenomenal!!!! Just a bad service day.
Good service but deceiving menu - item ordered did not match what was delivered. Quality of food leaves much to be desired
Tasty spot that also satisfied our Vegan friends. Choosing a restaurant for a group of 12 isn't always easy, especially when there are vegetarian and vegan requirements. Varsha worked out well. Mom's samosas were the best I have ever had and came with delicious home made chutney. I even bought a jar on my way out :).
The chicken tandoori, lamb curry and malai broccoli ticked all the boxes for my husband and I. Friends enjoyed the veg pakora and the Mom's Aloo Gobi.
We will be back.
Best meal in Victoria- veteran foodie opinion- and authentic indian with a twist. Great value but more so inventive and uniquely yum.
Awesome dining experience. Cannot wait to return and try some other menu items
They should have had one more server but the food was good
