   Dining at Vanessa's is always a pleasure. Each dish is carefully prepared and brings a lively combination of flavors. The ingredients are reliably fresh and present an upscale twist to Vietnamese food. There is an excellent choice of tapas/small plates and more substantial dishes. If you are gluten free or vegetarian you will still find plenty of tempting choices. It's a great place to dine with friends and share plates. Save room for dessert if possible; the choices are outstanding.

   The food is superb! The quality of the meats, spices and flavors compares to 5 star dining. My favorite dish is the oven baked Patrale Sole stuffed with Dungenes Crab, mozzarella, tomato salsa with potato. My new favorite salad is the Shaking filet mignon in brandy garlic butter. This a great place to go for date night or just out with friends, and make sure before leaving to stop by the kichen and say hello to Vanessa, owner and cook.

   Always delicious, super friendly, fair prices, fantastic happy hour! It can get crowded, and darn, people are discovering our neighborhood 'secret'. I haven't ordered anything that wasn't super yummy. And the cocktails, mmmm.

   Up to Cal Berkeley for a football game (they won-wee) & after got together with our daughter for an early dinner before driving home. One of them wanted Italian food (our "usual" place) the other Mexican. I had checked out OpenTable the day prior for some ideas that fit our time frame. I wanted to try something different....Vanessa's Bistro in Berkeley had good reviews & it sounded interesting so I made a reservation. We were pleasantly pleased, hubby & I haven't really done tapas or Vietnamese food before. It was happy hour so drinks were reduced & so were some of the tapas. Here's what we had: Ahi Tuna carpaccio with tomato salsa & ginger soy vinaigrette Slow Oven Roasted Pork with spicy chipotle sauce & crispy tortillas Miso Glazed Atlantic Salmon with vegetable pad thai Black Peppercorn Cured Filet Carpaccio with roasted peanuts, fried shallots & Asian Mint Spicy Vietnamese chicken coconut curry with bell peppers, carrots, potatoes & mushrooms All were delicious, my favorite was the Spicy Chicken Curry, daughter's was the Miso Salmon & my husband's was the Roasted Pork. He would have gotten 2 or 3 orders of that alone & called it a night :) Wait staff was attentive but not annoying, kept water glasses filled. Food came out at a nice pace & they replaced plates as needed.

   Visiting friends in Berkeley...their idea...great choice !!! Happy hour menu was wonderful and ordered entree to share. Great fusion flavors, a little Thai, a little Chinese...all good !! Drinks were excellent also. Definitely would go back
