Drawing ingredients and inspiration from near and far, VAGA explores San Diego’s ever-changing confluence of culture and wanderlust. From its perch on a coastal bluff in Encinitas, California, VAGA keeps one hand in the ocean, one hand in the farm, and both eyes on the horizon.

VAGA Restaurant & Bar is located on Level 2 of Alila Marea Beach Resort. Valet parking is available through the resort for $5.00 per car before 5 pm with validation only. After 5 pm, valet parking is $10.00 per car with no validation required. Self-parking is not available.

The food was fantastic, but the entrees were slow to come out. Once they got there, they were perfect and all four of us cleaned our plates. The server was apologetic and brought a delicious free dessert which was a nice way to end the meal. The view is beautiful and we will absolutely be back

We made reservations, but ended up sitting at the bar where we had access to the full dinner menu. The staff was very attentive. The drinks are very pricey for a San Diego location – more like New York prices.

We had been to Vaga when it first opened and didn’t like the food at all. We decided to go back when we heard they redid their brunch menu. So happy we did! Great options, so many that we had a hard time deciding so we ordered a few to share. All were great but the duck hash was our favorite. Our server was great, relaxed and didn’t rush us at all so we were able to enjoy the most beautiful view from the patio table! Can’t wait to go back soon!

Food is nothing special, everything is over priced. The only good thing is the view and ambience. The service is decent for what you’re paying for.

I have to say the management and the staff do not communicate well or almost non existent. The evening dinner situation was not so great except for the grand gesture of our server was unforgettable and greatly appreciated. Now back to breakfast, after spending over an hour with a senior director and expressing our frustrations about the dinner and breakfast situations, he patiently listened and was gracious enough to offer and secure the outdoor seating for breakfast at a specific time. We accepted his kind offer but when we showed up this morning, the receptionist at the restaurant said, we see the request of the outdoor but cannot guarantee and we have to wait 25 minutes and that we misunderstood. I specifically mentioned the offer but she said” that was not communicated with the restaurant and that they cannot accommodate us unless we wait”. We tried to get hold of the director but no luck. By then it was 15 minutes later from our reservation time so reluctantly we said we will dine indoor but were told despite having had a reservation for breakfast, we have to wait another 20 minutes for indoor dining as well. I am not happy to write this review as I wanted to enjoy our remaining stay and not to had to deal with such easily fixed situation. All it had to be done was the management to communicate with the restaurant. Poorly run and managed. It is such a shame as it could be so much better. Very disappointed and not up to the service standards Alila should be offering.

The view is great, the food is okay. The service is poor, but, they have a great view. Go for a drink in the bar and eat somewhere else.

No very organized. Reservation at 8:45. Got seated at 9. Food arrived 50 minutes later. Although they comp our food, the wait was not great!

New menu choices were spectacular. The Wagyu beef avocado toast was incredible. The strawberry watermelon gaspacho was an absolute delight.

Servers were very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and provided some great recommendations. The crispy skin trout and smoked shorts ribs were so delicious.
