Urban Solace & Bar Solace
We are located in the heart of North Park, near bustling the neighborhoods of Hillcrest, South Park and University Heights, just north of Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park. We are famous for our “Bluegrass Brunch” every Sunday - live music is played from 10am - 2pm.
Awesome brunch and great service.
Love the new dinner menu of small plates! We had a very filling and affordable dinner with six plates. Loved the gnocchi, chaired broccolini, black cod and biscuits especially and wish I’d gotten the mussels, too, because they smelled amazing at the table next door.
Overall we had a nice meal and time together. It was brunch time and the place was busy. A few suggestions. A restaurant can not run out of simple off the shelf items (coconut milk) Hot drinks should not be served in glass, they look amazing but not functional, finally food should be served hot or cold. Nice job on service and table cleanup.
service was a pain
tomato soup was a thick marinara
Great, came for brunch with my folks and everyone loved the food and the live music. Service was excellent. Will back soon to try the new dinner menu.
Service was very poor. We waited an extraordinarily long time for drinks, appetizers, everything really...The Manager was extremely apologetic and said that this was due to many large parties at the same time and a new menu that week. He accommodated us by comping everything, which was unexpected and very nice. However, the food was just fair to good at best and given our experience, even with the kindness of management, I am not sure that I would return.
There's a reason why Urban Solace has been in North Park so long - they know what they're doing and are very good at it! Came from a small casual group brunch on a Saturday. Moderately filled with people, we were sat down immediately for our reservations. Food was excellent: eggs benedict (Pork Belly Benny), a skillet hash, and comfort food: biscuits and sausage! "This is for Rosa" was a great cold brew/vodka alternative to the mimosa, and the ambience is always pleasant, elegant, quiet - but casual. I'll keep going back!
They changed the dinning experience to more of a tapas style. The food was ok. We all preferred to old menu and dinning experience.
Our new favorite local food spot. We fell in love with everything, can’t wait to try their brunch menu.
reservation was for an inside table, but we were seated outside with a broken heater
Very hip atmosphere and great service. Delicious salad entree dessert and drinks. Not overpriced.
Went here on new year's eve, amazing cocktails and beer list, attentive staff. Very accommodating of one member of our party with dietary restrictions. Food was amazing. Look forward to returning!
New Year’s Eve dinner. We were out on the patio and were quite happy & warm with the heaters and the plastic ceiling. Food was really good and service was good.
The restaurant was not full and it took more than 1 hour to get our food. The service was extremely slow
It was a really nice meal
Great place for some modern American fare. The food is all crafted here, with all ingredients locally sourced or from the west coast. The owners here really put a lot of thought and care into their foods. I'm interested in the new spin they will take with Urban Solace going on in to the new year. I have never been disappointed with anything that I have ordered from here. Definitely recommend the biscuits with tomato jam, it's absolutely phenomenal. So many great crafted cocktails here, like the hot toddy! I honestly love the seafood dishes here more than the meat dishes, so try them out!
Ive been coming here for many years... but it's been a minute since I have been back. I was happy to see that, if anything, it has gotten even better than the last time I was there. Urban Solace is a neighborhood anchor that has kept quality first ... the food is excellent, the drinks are great, and the ambience is upscale but not uptight. I will keep going back again and again!
We love this restaurant. The food and service are amazingly good and it just is a cozy lovely place. I could eat here every night !
Pork belly Benny is a good breakfast choice
We had a nice family dinner. Most of the food was delicious. I had the Sea Bass and would definitely recommend. Cheesy biscuits were the best and my kids really enjoyed the duckoroni.
Very good food, cool ambiance, not cheap but not very pricey.
Good food, excellent service, nice ambiance. The shrimp and grits and duck confit were both outstanding, while the chicken and dumplings was just good -- the dumplings were excellent (i.e., light), but the chicken and veggies sauce tasted like chicken pot pie so good as comfort food, but not for the foodie taste.
Service was fine. Brunch food was OK, but nothing special and not worth the price. The place was a little too loud for conversation, but not intolerably so. In other words, meh.
Very nice service.
This is the place, and who doesn't like North Park?
We ate here before the theatre, and let our server know this. The food was delicious as always and the service was excellent. We sat outside on the patio and the temperature of the heater was perfect. After a comfortable meal we left in plenty of time to reach our performance.
As always, Urban Solace has wonderful food and great service. We return over and over.
I made a reservation around brunch time. We have dined in here before and we loved it but this visit was a disappointment. There were just 2 of us and celebrating a bday. When we arrived, there were a lot of good vacant tables. We requested patio. They placed us BESIDE A BIG SPEAKER (there was a band about to start playing) when there were other tables available in the same area AWAY from the speaker. How they could not place us on those tables is ridiculous. They said it is reserved - hey guess what, we also have a reservation so I do not think that is fair treatment. Then they placed us inside, on this lonely dark corner in the back when there are clearly open tables in the main area. We then sat at the bar but decided to leave after a few minutes because we were really upset at how we are treated. We just want a nice table location and enjoy our food and experience but we did not get that at all the minute we walked in.
We sat on the patio which was quaint and fun...nice to be outside at night!! Our server was attentive, fun and knowledgeable. I had the meatloaf and had to fight off everyone else at the table from eating it all...SO good! My hubby had the chicken and dumplings and said that while it was delicious, there wasn’t much chicken so that was disappointing. My friend had the pancetta wrapped ahi tuna, which was perfectly done. Her husband had the half a chicken and said it was delicious...i think his huge plate of chicken made my hubby’s small dish look even more pathetic. It took a long time for our food to arrive, almost an hour from the time we ordered, so between that and the lack of chicken in my hubby’s meal I give them 4 stars. But, overall the food was yummy, service was great and the atmosphere on the patio was relaxed and inviting. We all agreed we’d go again and try other dishes!
Food is always great, portions are hearty:)
Great service for our group of 8. Our appetizers and salads came out pretty promptly but our main meals took a little longer, I'm thinking because there were a couple of other big groups there as well. Servers were very sweet and kind, refilled drinks constantly and answered all of our questions. I love this place and will definitely come back!
Staff was friendly and offered excellent service. Food was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Appreciated the uniqueness in everything from environment to food and beverages. It was my first visit to Urban Solace and definitely will not be my last. Thank you all for such a special and memorable experience.
Lovely service. Had beef cheeks which were very fatty and Seabass that was good but nothing special. Overall solid food but nothing that would make me come back
Visiting from Nebraska and dining with our daughter. Second time dining here. Fabulous best-ever cinnamon roll, egg-scramble, and quinoa bowl! Stellar service and ambiance!
Misfired burgers, cold fries, and well done rare ahi - our party of 6 all agreed Urban Solace is ending on a weak note. Lot's of great memories here - we celebrated signing our mortgages here, celebrated here when we heard we finally had an adoption match, and dozens and dozens of dates at the bar over the years and so we wanted to eat at US one last time before they reinvent themselves. We were sad at this news, but now realize a reinvention is perhaps in order. We'll try them again in their next phase and wish them the best.
Took forever for the main courses to come out. We were waiting more than 45 minutes. The chicken and plate was slathered in a gooey, sweet sauce that overpowered other components on the plate. The meatloaf was dry.
Was one of the best meals we have had in months! Simple but top shelf preparation. Loved the server too - informative and helpful but not intrusive.
My girlfriend and I decided to spend her birthday dinner here. After much excitement, we were very disappointed by the value, and especially the food. We were greeted by our waiter, and happily ordered a tomato soup, cheese platter, and quinoa grain bowl along with two glasses of wine. We were soon told that one of the cheeses on the platter was not available and that we'd get extra of one of the existing cheeses. Once the cheese board came out, we noticed that the layout was off. The balance of cheeses to the other ingredients on the board was not right and did not meet the expectations we had of Urban Solace. We got our glasses of wine, a tempranillo and pinot noir, and both seemed like very poor quality compared to a wine of less than $3 we buy at Aldi. The quinoa grain bowl was over $20, so I expected a high quality dish. I could not be more disappointed. It was bland, and the dish seemed like it was a meager attempt at putting something together so they could charge a very high price. My girlfriend got the tomato soup, and while it tasted good, it was cold. We were happy to be given a complimentary birthday muffin to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, but overall food quality was very poor. I do not recommend coming here for food given the very high price that is charged.
Restaurant was good, but not great this time around. My food wasn't served very hot (Shrimp n' Grits) and lacked salt. I rarely salt my food, but had to on this occasion. I have dined here in the past and the food has always been great. This time it was just a little off. I would still go again and chalk it up to be an off day.
