It was a beautiful atmosphere, food and were great.
Visit from California
I chose the restaurant based on Open Table’s reviews & was not disappointed. Food was great & met my dietary quirks. Service became a bit slow towards the end of our meal but otherwise top notch & personable. Will return if ever in Portland, OR again.
We went as part of a romance package from The Nines. While the food was amazing and the service top-notch, this is not a restaurant set up for romantic dining. We were seated two feet from a table with 3 business people unwinding. In looking around, shared benches and close tables are the norm, privacy and ambience are not.
Great place for date night dinner and drinks we'll be back again
Told the waiter that we were in a hurry and he practically ignored us the entire meal. Food was very good but service ruined it.
I heard such good things about this restaurant. I was really hoping this would be our new go to for a good steak dinner. The prices were a little off putting for what we got. There were nine people in our party and the only dish that was amazing was the scallops risotto. The steak lacked flavor for being a 50+ dollar piece of meat. Needed salt and a good sear. The favorite thing of all was the cornbread!! Very good. We may try this place again later on down the road but it was a bit disappointing to say the least.
The NY Steak tasting with added Wagyu was very good and perfect for sharing. The blue cheese truffle butter made it even more delicious.
WE CELEBRATED MY DAUGHTER'S 18TH BIRTHDAY WITH A FAMILY BRUCH AND THEY MADE IT VERY SPECIAL. THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT AND THEY BROUGHT HER A SPECIAL DESSERT AT THE END OF OUR MEAL.
Excellent service. Food was, as always, incredible. But we had a very funny and attentive server, Nick, who really added to our dining experience. Will definitely be back for special occasions and any time really. :)
Thank you so much for the compliment! Nick is pretty great and I'm sure he'd love to have you back. Thanks again!
Service in the beginning was fantastic then after we had been served everyone seemed to disappear it was very strange. For 30 minutes we were waiting to be helped with boxes for left overs and the check.
My husbands steak sampler which was four or five steaks, three of them were cold. My ribeye seemed fine. The octopus was so fishy tasting that it made me sick.
I wouldn’t come back to be honest.
Service team did not have their act together. Wines we tried to order from their list were sold out. Fromaggier (if that’s what you call him) seemed totally stoned. Won’t be going back.
We caught the bartender being rude to the guy next to us and then when I substituted something in my meal because of a dairy allergy, they left everything else off that I could eat and just left the protein and the fries that I substituted but still charged me for the full meal. Not worth the cost. There are way better places to eat.
All around great place to have a special evening. Food was outstanding and service was excellent. Great choices for almost any dietary restriction.
Thank you for the compliment! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit.
The food was quite good. Still not used to how low the chairs are. We also felt rushed later in the night by a waitress wasn’t ours and it was a bit unsettling.
This staff is on it. My boyfriend reported how hydrated he was and how happy and full our bellies were with prompt, kind service.
An outstanding meal with excellent service. We just looked up and our waiter was there. 5 stars all around.
Well...that was the last time we’ll visit Urban Farmer. It was Christmas Day dinner and it was a fixed price menu with choice of app and entree. $70 per head. Three of us ordered Prime Rib and all three came to the table cold. One of our kids had already eaten most of it before saying anything and they fixed the other two. The au gratin potato side was also cold. They fixed it all and took 2 meals off the bill but I frankly wanted a good dinner, not dollars off my bill. Appetizer salad and seafood plate was good and drinks were good too. But...there are better options out there for the money in Portland ...maybe not a ton of options on XMas Day but that meal turned us off.
These guys must not spend much on advertising, which is the only reason they don't get the media coverage, as they are so dominant in the fine dining trade here in the Northwest. We've been foodies for over 35 years and almost never have found a place like Urban Farmer where everything EVERYTIME is superb. Their secret? The ages old philosophy, like in professional sports and top level military (SEALS, SAS, etc.) is repetition yields perfection. Do a dish 1,000 times and you know every little nuance of every part of the dish, and pay to get the best ingredients, and they don't need a timer to know when it is cooked to perfection. Why go to any other fine dining place where 1 time out of 3 it is perfect, when you can go to a place where every time at bat they hit it out of the park? The old NYC Lutece-level experience still lives on here in Portland.
This was our second Christmas Dinner at Urban Farmer, and again it was terrific. The price fixed menu was quite lavish, with something for everyone, all delicious and beautifully prepared. My squash soup was wonderful and unique, the agnollotti, fish platter cheese plate, and other choices equally enticing. The mains: diver scallops, prime rib, and lamb were delicious and cooked perfectly. Our server was delightful and spot on. An assortment of fun desserts to please all comers was generous. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed yet sophisticated. An easy place to carry on a conversation. Thanks to everyone who gave up time with their own friends and families to make our evening special!
Wonderful food and service for Xmas.
Went on Christmas Day, holidays can be a bit iffy. However, Urban Farmer had this well planned. The fixed price Christmas menu had a wide variety of appetizers and entrees. All were well prepared and delicious. The albacore tartare and the braised lamb were exceptional. My husband was very happy with his squash soup and salmon. The for the table sides and desserts were wonderful. Service was first rate
Went for Xmas brunch-there was a very limited menu. I would expect a more from a holiday menu than just every day breakfast fare. Still, the food was ok and the service and decor were good.
Third time dining at Urban Farmer (my wife has eaten here 5-6 times). We both agreed that they were off their game on Christmas Eve. We had an 8 pm reservation so it was at the end of their dinner service and we assumed someone called in sick as the service was unusually slow. The most disappointing part of the evening was the quality of the food. Son and I ordered Steaks Medium but they were definitely Medium Well. The scalloped potato side was soupy and barely edible. Desserts were very good so we left on a positive note. Definitely will go back but with more hesitation now. Will not eat there again on Christmas Eve.
Even though I checked Urban Farmer’s website and talked to one of their staff once I arrived to Portland, Oregon...there was no mention of a set menu at $72 per person. Since it was 2:15pm in the afternoon — we wanted a very light meal instead but had no other option. It tainted the whole experience. Also, although it was Christmas Eve, there was no holiday music to “up” the occasion and make it special. No holiday spirit to accentuate the food.
On arriving, we waited at hostess desk for some time before being flippently acknowledge.
After being seated, the service felt some what routine and not genuine. Seating, (closely spaced) and ambience was not conducive with the pricing. Initially ambient music set mood , but mid meal blasted loud and then lowered. Ambience spoiled.
Entrees arrived overcooked, undercooked and unbalanced.
Party of 3 , 1 bottle of wine, salad ,entree ,no starter, no dessert. $270.00 bill and hidden service fee.
Have dined world wide and for the price did not find food, service or ambience warranted the bottom line.
Atmosphere and food were fantastic, but our server made everything perfect! She was friendly, explained the menu, made fantastic suggestions and was incredibly attentive! Also the waitstaff was amazing. Our water glasses were never empty. We felt very well attended to. We will definitely be back!
Very disappointing indeed. They have surely went from my highly recommended place to a definitely not recommended place. Tables were too crowded together. Couldn’t get the cheese cart to come to the table like they had before. Order the steak tasting with wagyu this time, though I’ve ordered medium rare...the grass fed was nearly well done, the corn fed was bulls eye(not defrosted thoroughly before it was prepared), the aged one was ok, the wagyu was medium and tough and chewy. There were no garnishment on the plate. The Brussels sprouts were awful with a fruity glaze but itself was bitter and bland. The cheese tasting was nothing to write home about either.
Great place to meet family and friends for a terrific meal and wonderful service!
The deviled eggs and the fall frittata were overcooked. Cocktails were good, and the butterscotch sundae was outstanding. Our server boxed up our leftovers, which I hate. Then gave us the wrong boxes back, which I didn't realize until I got home, and I'd barely touched mine. That was $20 down the drain.
This dinner took almost three hours. Our waiter was no where to be found most of the time, and we had to try to locate him to get the bill after waiting for way too long.
Urban Farmer is "first class." Service was attentive and food was DELICIOUS!
I took my wife to Urban Farmer for her birthday dinner. The atmosphere was very romantic, and the service was excellent. We were served cornbread, and it was phenomenal. The local greens salad was also phenomenal.
For the main course, we both ordered seafood. I had black cod, and my wife had sea scallops. Our entrees were prepared nicely, but they were too salty. For the price, we were expecting a better-tasting meal. Then again, Urban Farmer is a steakhouse, and we didn’t order steaks. We will next time.
After dinner, they provided birthday dessert, complete with candle, on the house.
Food was a little lackluster, but service and atmosphere were outstanding. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Poor service and food for the price
Dinner was served before the wine was even brought
Overpriced, pretentious will never recommend
2 years ago I would have. I’m not sure what changed but I wouldn’t go for dinner now. Great decor for a drink or dessert. I used to wait tables years ago and the service was very slow. The food at departure is much better.
I really enjoyed my meal and the service was excellent at Urban Farm. The wagyu on the Chef's sampler was AMAZING, and I can't say enough good about the Winter Squash Soup. The ribs on the sampler plate my friend ordered were a bit too salty, and I didn't particularly love my New York Strip, due to the amount of fat, but that was a mistake on my part I think for ordering that cut. The space was fine, but my friend's seat sagged in the middle, making her sink down and feel a little uncomfortable, and the diner's next to us were very loud and one used lots of obscenities; otherwise, I would have given the environment better marks. When my bone marrow came out slightly later than the rest of my meal, my server noticed, even when I didn't and made sure I was comped - something I wouldn't have even asked for. She was attentive and just the right amount of friendly and helpful! I will definitely go back and order the wagyu and try more delicious sides!
We had a party of 7 for my husband’s birthday but they had several large parties going on, especially company Christmas parties. The main entree took forever to come out. Luckily we got the first course right away and we had ordered salads. The guy with the cheese board was also busy so it was a long wait for him too. Other than that the food was fantastic as expected!
Soup came out cold, sampler plate of 3 NY steaks was very mediocre for $72, black cod, was just okay For a meal that cost us over $300 we left disappointed.
Very tasty food and nice enviroment. Strong recommended for meat lovers
