Uptown Sushi Ratings and Reviews
This place has turned into a real dump. We sat in a booth and the upholstery was torn in many locations with the stuffing coming out. How do you serve food in a place like this? The restrooms were also disgusting. We had the Kobe cubes, which were really good, but the two rolls we had were bad and not fresh. We could not get pass the upholstery seating and the lack of management and ownership that would serve food in this condition. How do you let your restaurant deteriorate to this condition? My advice is avoid Uptown Sushi at all cost. There are too many good and clean sushi bars in Houston. I am asking for a response to my review.
Service was pretty bad. Got some of our meal items before our appetizer entrees that we orders, which probably would have even came if we hadn’t asked for it. Restaurant wasn’t even super busy and considering that we came early (6:45 pm) for a Saturday night, they were already out of some items. Used to be a good place, now I have better choices in this city considering he cost of the food.
Although we made reservations, we were seated in the bar area. The rest of the place was empty. Poor service (later realized it was the bartender waiting on us). Ordered lobster bisque, but my entree arrived without soup due to waiter forgetting. Lobster and shrimp rolls were under cooked. Fought and tasted more like chicken salad. Entree was not impressive. NYE dinner was a bust. Don’t bother going here.
Good place to go if you know sushi. Food was very good. Ambience OK, slightly annoying music, just generic pop re-mixes. Worst thing was the service. Waiter was brusque, a bit snooty, and not willing to help much with the order, even though we specifically said we didn't know sushi and could use some help.
Way to high prices for average sushi. Much better fare at Soma and other places. Aside from that, I thought I was on a former nightclub owing to the design of the place. Very odd to us with a very long way off light beige draperies, banquette seating, etc. Wouldn't go there again.
I took my boyfriend out for his birthday and he absolutely loves sushi. This was only our second time here and it's still outstanding, the food the service, and the environment. We give a big thanks to the complimentary dessert as well. Its one of our most go to sushi spots for sure!
The ambiance and the service were great, but I found the roll menu to be short and not that diversified as expected.
As starters we tried the Teriyaki Rib Eye and the Lobster and Shrimp Roll. The Rib Eye was delicious and I do recommend, on the other hand the Roll wasn't crunch as it should, he dough was kind of saggy.
We ordered the Uka Roll, taste was good (not spectacular) but , comparing with others sushi restaurants, very expensive for the size and taste presented.
This place is really dim, so be prepared to go almost blind when you come in on a sunny day. It takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust, but even after it adjusts, the lighting isn't the best.
The food is good, but I won't say that it is my favorite sushi place in town. It seems fresh, but it's not the most creative, nor is the presentation good. Our waiter was very attentive, though, and he made good recommendations. I'd go back, mainly because it's across the freeway from my work.
It has been a while since we ate here but as before, the food and service never disappoint. The one dish that was expensive was the kobe hot rock at $19. It was only 6 bite size, thin slices of beef - although, it was delicious. The presentation was interesting but its not worth putting up with the smoke for the price - I won't order that again. But everything tasted very good.
