About
This was first day diners were allowed back in restaurants. So..it was going to be different. Food was very good as usual. They seemed to place a priority on filling take out orders..we waited a long time for everything. Usually they are on point however.
Delicious! Not a big sushi eater but that was very good and I look forward to going again soon!
Ecellent place I love the good the sushi it’s delicious it’s nice
They changed the background music from a pretty cool new age/jazz/techno fusion to lame contemporary FM 'hits' that sorta suck. Food remains good, but the new music kills the previously fantastic avant garde vibe of this place.
Fresh and tasty lunch options.
The sushi is overpriced and average at best although I did enjoy the yellowtail nigiri very much. We had multiple fruit flies attack our food during dinner and there was a pipe issue in the bathroom so the whole area smelled like sewage. Enough said.
Excellent!
Great experience! ❤️
Took the Mrs. for Valentines Day, and we really had a great experience. The food and service were excellent, and the prices very reasonable. We shall return!
Always great food and service!
I prefer more traditional nigiri but the menu is mostly special rolls and nigiri.
High anticipation for the reopening post the Hurricane and they did not disappoint. The miso soup has to be the best I’ve ever tasted and sushi is fresh and handled with precision. The server was attentive, friendly, and charming. The place was packed on a Wed night so I highly suggest reservations. Bar seating available but it was standing room only. They also have a huge sushi bar with direct access to the chefs.
The decor and energy of the place was really hip and cool and the food tasted GREAT, but there were just too many things that stood out as bad or unacceptable to say it was a good experience.
Bad:
I wrote in the OpenTable notes that this dinner was a birthday/special occasion, but they didn't do anything special for us. I asked if we could be seated at a more discreet booth rather than by the stair case near the sushi bar and I was told that the booths are for parties of four only. They then proceeded to sit three parties of two at the open booths.
Bad:
Our waitress didn't really check on us or refill our water and the wait time between plates coming out was pretty long. Also, our chopsticks were not refreshed after the appetizers, which seemed a bit cheap. The service was below average compared to other sushi places in town.
Bad:
When I ordered my nigiri, the waitress kept telling me I should order the "special nigiri". It came off as her just trying to get a bigger tip. For example, I asked about the yellowtail and was told I should try the far pricier scallop special nigiri instead.
Unnacceptable:
The grapefruit garnish on my wife's paloma smelled like sweaty feet. and there was a long hair in our cheesecake. So gross. If they aren't cutting their garnishes daily and keeping the containers clean behind the bar, it really makes me wonder if everything else is fresh... which is obviously important for a sushi place.
Time will tell if we give this place another try.
Went there for my birthday. I thought the food was just okay. Nothing special. The ambiance was also a little weird. The bar was split off from the main part of the restaurant but you could still see in it from the top deck of the dining area so it felt like a weird smash between sports bar and modern fine dining. Not sure if I cared for the design.
The new uptown sushi is not as good as before. The service is fair at best. The drinks are watered down.
The sushi is okay. Nothing special.
Just a neighborhood place and nothing special. More families and not fine dining.
Great ambiance
Best dining experience! Great atmosphere and servers are knowledgeable. Sushi is best in town, my favorite is the Godzilla roll, but all are amazing. Also the best lychee martinis in town. If you prefer wine, champagne, or sake, Uptown Sushi has a great selection.
Came here with my wife on New Year’s Eve. I have Celiac Disease and therefore I have to eat Gluten Free. I brought a bottle of GF soy sauce from home just in case. Turns out they have it at the restaurant. Celeste was our waitress. She was phenomenal. She knew everything I could and couldn’t eat. She knew how to tweak the menu to make it gluten free for me. I have been to plenty of sushi places around the country and Uptown is in my top 3 favorite places.
We had a pre-dinner drink with Andy (the bartender) and he was very outgoing and poured some excellent drinks.
Sushi rolls were excellent and we had a very hard time deciding which of the 6 we had was our favorite.
All around we had a great experience. My wife kept complimenting the ambiance of the place. Easy to hold a conversation even with the restaurant at capacity.
We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you Celeste for making our dining experience excellent!

Linda is the best server!!! Everything at the restaurant is so wonderful. All the servers work as a team. The food is just so delicious too!!!
Uptown Sushi is getting better and better. Great service and a very friendly atmosphere. Creative and delicious menu thanks to Fernando and Abel!!
Best sushi in Houston!!!
The food and service were excellent however the ladies room had a horribly strong sewer smell to the point where it could be detected in the hallways outside the bathroom.
Good fresh food with nice presentation. Interior of the store is good.
Nice place!
Outstanding service.
Uptown has, and continues to be, my favorite sushi restaurant in Houston.
Great food , basic service !
Our favorite sushi restaurant in Houston. I love the creations and of course the freshness. Uptown sushi is the only place I go now for sushi.
Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. Everything we até was absolutely delicious. Yes we will be back.
Disappointed about this restaurant. We were excited to see after the renovation but the changes were underwelming beside that the restaurant decided to start cleaning early and the smell of chemicals ruin our evening and gave us a headache. Our waiter was attentive but not to compensate the bad time we had at this restaurant. There are better options in Houston. Not coming back.
Father in law in town
Everything was super delicious and of very high quality!
Our favorite sushi place. Food is always incredibly fresh, and even the non-fish dishes are superb. Servers are always so nice.
The food was spectacular, the service on point the only bump in the road was the speakers malfunctioning which isn't anyone's fault really.
Weird Service, Left Unattended often, Shadow servers could not recommend a wine and kept bothering us about what else we wanted to order. small flies or "gnats" all around our table. sashimi was ok. Sushi roll was very chewy, and had rancid flavor. soft shell crab was too salty.
We have been going there for years. Remains one of my favorite places. Always good service and fresh food.
Awesome food awesome service
Great service, well made drive and amazing sushi, really high quality fish used.
What a fun restaurant! You walk into a low light room with a circular sushi bar surrounded by banks of tables. The sushi is very imaginative, made with a large variety of fresh fish with interesting combinations and special sauces and toppings. We tried individual red snapper pieces with the taste enhanced by the toppings. The Tata roll made with three kinds of fish flavored with herbs and avocado had a spicy taste with an interesting texture. The Hot Rock meat dish was so fun. They brought a small flat rock that was heated in a fire and then we cooked small pieces of steak on it. We tried a cold dish with thin slices of tuna rolled together in a sweet sour sauce that enhanced the fresh tuna taste. We finished with green tea moochi. It was memorial experience.
Amazing lunch spot! The food was excellent and the service was great. Very quick as well.
