The food never disappoints! Best brunch in Portland, which is really saying something. We usually have the pleasure of dining in Jamie's section, and she's always fantastic. If large, delicious, fairly priced portions of fresh food served in an upscale environment by a great staff are things you enjoy... Get to Union ASAP!
Honestly, I went into union very excited to be there. Their marketing, photos, and website were all beautiful. The staff were all exceptionally nice. That being said, upon dining, I was at a loss. The food that all photographed exceptionally well was beyond bland. If there is a positive, it’s that it felt like clean eating. That being said, there are plenty of herbs that could have been used to still provide clean eating while still providing flavor. Our experience felt very manufactured. The perfect, safe, photo op with what appears to be little to no passion behind the product that goes out. I can honestly say, after spending a full 7 days in Portland, trying a new restaurant for each meal - breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this meal was by far the most disappointing.
As usual the kitchen and staff provided an outstanding breakfast in a setting conducive to conversation amid privacy and with attention to our needs.
Easter Sunday. The fresh Campanelle pasta wss over cooked. The fluted (ribboned) edges were separated from the cones of the pasta which detracts from the presentation and was a bit mushy. The crab, truffle oil, lemon and mint were a delicious combination.
Had the eggs Benedict! Was just fantastic!
Coffee was meh. Service not good. We even heard a man from another table get up and ask the hostess where his waiter was, so it wasn't just us. Food was decent but not worth the price with the lackluster service.
Great breakfast. Service was perfect. Friendly and attentive but not overbearing.
Very nice ambiance, excellent food, a 5-star dining experience
Loved the local and house-made components of the dishes. Generous portions. Relaxed atmosphere.
Union is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. After being fully vaccinated, we ventured to celebrate our wedding anniversary indoors, and Union did not disappoint.
We felt perfectly safe, with distanced seating, high ceilings and masked staff, as well as guests (unless they were eating).
I had a pan-fried sole on a bed of chickpeas with pea tendrils and cipollini, and my husband pasta with Jonah crab. Both were very tasty, as were the side dishes of biscuits, roasted Brussels sprouts and rainbow carrots.
Not having eaten out for more than a year, we overestimated our appetite and portion sizes, so we had leftovers that we took home. As a baker, I especially like the buttery biscuits. And I do hope that at one point the restaurant will put their outstanding popcorn and peanut butter dessert back on the menu that we enjoyed once at a private dinner party.
The service was incredible. Our waitress was super helpful and so so so nice. We felt incredibly comfortable and welcome the whole time. The atmosphere was cool and relaxed. The food matched the vibe and service. The oysters are easily the freshest and most delicious I’ve ever had. I don’t think any vegetable dish in the world is as good as their Brussel sprouts. 10/10 couldn’t recommend it enough
Great job with social distancing. Excellent service.
Prices should have been a little less expensive.
Excellent service. The food was delicious the salmon and scallop dishes were exceptional, and the cocktails were mixed perfectly, great place for a special meal highly recommend Union.
As my star ratings indicate, overall we thought Union was outstanding. I've lived in this town or its environs for 45+ years, and this restaurant (at the old Portland Press Herald building) was a gem -- not presumptuous nor overpriced like so many others in this area have become. Just good service and food in a very comfortable atmosphere.
One quibble, and I hesitate to mention it (but you might take heed), was that I ordered a house margarita, which it turns out is made with Cointreau rather than Triple Sec -- a good thing. I asked for a Grand Marnier floater, not realizing there would already be a premium liquor added to the tequila. Fine, not a problem, as it tasted especially good. However, when the bill arrived I realized that extra shot of liquor cost as much as the drink itself. Not unmanageable, but not an agreeable surprise, either. Oh well.
All in all, a delightful meal, and one which we look forward to having again.
First time eating here. The service and food was exceptional. Will be back.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Really great evening.
A great brunch! I enjoyed my burger and health smoothie!!
Had breakfast with friends, nice but over-priced for what you received for meals. Food was tasty but small portions compared to other places in the area charging the same prices.
Fantastic as usual! Can’t go wrong here.
The ambiance and decor at Union is impeccable. Very modern and cool. Our server was also very pleasant. I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the smoked parsnip soup and the goat cheese arancini. The soup was way too Smokey, and the crispy mushrooms on top were very unappetizing. I couldn’t take more than one bite of the Arancini because it was so greasy. My husband got the chicken dinner, which he didn’t like either. He said it came in a sweet sauce that ruined the dish, and the gnocchi was inedible.
We enjoyed our meal at Union. Very nice location with terrific ambiance. The restaurant is located on the first floor beside the lobby of the Press Hotel -- a very unique space with a lot of character. The food was very good. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
This place should not be serving food!!
Everything was undercooked and cold.
Service was poor and very unexperienced.
Don't wast your money there are so many other great places in Portland
It didn't really feel any different than before COVID. We had great service, great cocktails and the food was so good. Tables were spaced far apart and the use of the QR Code to access the menu made it safe and easy to view.
There are a lot of amazing restaurants in Portland. I would say in comparison, Union was very good, but not exceptional.
Great food and atmosphere. Our server Abby was great
Great spot, very nice atmosphere and good food. The staff was very friendly. All around good experience. Cant go wrong with Union.
Great Service Food and Ambiance!!
This has fast become one of our favorites in Portland. Food is excellent, service is wonderful and ambience as great as well. That you for contributing to our lovely Valentine's Day!
Very nice Valentines weekend dinner. The food and service were great!
Great atmosphere, great service, have to try the mushroom toast.
The food was great and the service was excellent.
Sat at the bar and had great service from Megan. Plenty of space between diners
The crab roll was pretty tasteless. The salad was nicely dressed.
My companions thought the Eggs Benedict were NVG.
Coffee was nice. Bloody Mary was pretty hot, and I like hot.
We love Union! The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. Great wine list too!
Food was excellent and we loved the menu. The ambiance was wonderful. We would definitely go again and I highly recommend.
Dinner was excellent, service was attentive and the host was more than accommodating for our party. We had the best seat in the house!
Great atmosphere, good food. Wish menu selection was larger, but still 5-star.
Rear night out at Union. Fabulous food in a safe beautiful place!
We were greeted by the host who was very welcoming and seated in a socially distant manner. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We were not impressed at all with the food. Dinner was mediocre at best and not a good value for the food we received (spent $70). I had the scallops and my boyfriend had the pasta bolognese and a glass a beer. Neither was flavorful. Not sure I’d come back but If I did, maybe at the bar for a burger.
