Great food. Chef is the best in the area.
St Patrick’s celebration
None of us had been here before. We loved the ambience and our server was attentive but not at all intrusive. We had a range of foods; breakfasts (omelets, French toast), lobster bisque and the short ribs/ mac and cheese. Everyone was thrilled with the food (no room for what read like wonderful desserts... next time?). Definitly going back (again and again)
If you have t been to Union Kitchen yet you must go! The food is great! Something for everyone! We have had the steak- just great; the chicken sandwich is phenomenal ; vegetable lasagna so often is blah and mushy at allot of restaurants even the very good ones - but theirs is superb absolutely delicious ! Not to mention the pork chops and OMG the Wild Mushroom and Farro is outstanding whether you are a vegetarian or a carnivore . So delicious ! Honestly if you are ordering anything else you should order the Farro and split it as a side - it is that good!!!
The staff is great all have wonderful personalities which just makes the overall dining experience so pleasant!! .
The only drawback if there is one is it is so very loud and I mean can’t hear yourself think loud when the restaurant is full- which is basically all the time because the restaurant is that good . Don’t let that keep you away- just know some of your dinner conversations will get muted . We love Union Kitchen ! If you’re looking for a great restaurant Union Kitchen is for you ! 👍
I wish I asked the server for his name since it would add context to this review. Let me just say he was fantastic. He clearly had a lot of experience in the restaurant world and when my friend and I couldn't decide what drinks we wanted he asked us some pointed questions to deliver some great libations! This hardly ever happens but how lovely that he took that extra step to make our experience special. Thank you!
This is an excellent addition to the West Hartford food scene. Service was excellent and the contemporary American cuisine was interesting and well done.
Amazing quality and portion size. General Manager, Taki class act. Comfort food with NYC vibe. Lively, loud but fun.
Deliciou food! Wonderful service would definitely go back
Limited menu and no daily specials. Needs more chicken and fish dishes
Raw pork. Bad meatloaf. Mediocre service. Good drinks.
The ambience and wait staff were the best part of the meal. My sister had the surf and turf sandwich and she said it was difficult to bite into (the steak probably should have been shaved or thinner cuts) and also had no flavor or sauce and the lobster had a fishy flavor. The French fries and bread were excellent. The lamb ragout was mediocre. I was expecting homemade gnocchi, but it was definitely store bought. My cousin got salad with salmon and she said it was good, but nothing too exciting. Our waitress was really excellent and attentive. I would come back to try the food out again.
I had the salmon with crab meat. I thought the crab meat was a little "fishy" and I wish now I had sent it back. The salmon was excellent and cooked as I had ordered.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food. The short rib is amazing!
Service was quick and staff were all very friendly. Food was good and reasonably priced
We figured we would check out this new WH restaurant. The physical space and atmosphere are very nice and relaxing. Enjoy the windows looking into the kitchen. Staff was responsive. Had a New Fashioned cocktail which was good although the glass was a bit under filled which I thought was a bit lame given the price of the drink. Fried brussel sprouts and hummus appetizers were both very good. However, for the main meal, I had the meatloaf which was dry and not very tasty. The fries were over salted. My wife had the salmon - also not very good. Given the caliber of the restaurants in this area I guess our expectations were quite high and given the choices for other restaurants here I would probably not return.
I might go back to give the Union Kitchen a second chance. The place is a little quiet, which is not consistent with other reviews. We were there in the late morning and they had no pork belly. This is a problem because so many of their options have pork belly as main ingredients. Nevertheless, the food was very good, albeit over priced.
Service was friendly, but there was a period of time when we could not find the server anywhere.
My husband and I were in the area for a business trip. This restaurant had great reviews on Yelp and so we tried it. We loved it! Food was excellent and the service was too! Loved the warm, inviting and upscale decor, including the eye-catching "wall of liquor" behind the bar. The next day, I made a point of mentioning this restaurant to the front desk of our hotel to suggest that they add Union Kitchen to their list of restaurant recommendations they have printed for hotel guests.
We would have liked to have seen a pastry basket option for brunch
Food was excellent as was the service. We were seated in the bar which I rarely enjoy - too noisy and dislike the high seating. I thought I had checked “standard seating “ on the Open Table app, but found they did not have that info at the restaurant. The manager was super nice and comped us a dessert since they did not have any standard seating tables available. Not necessary, but gave them an extra star!
Food was good. Decor was great. Service was fantastic. It is loud. The bar is open to the restaurant and the noise is pretty loud. We were a party of five and it was hard to hear from one end of the table to the other.
This was our first time at Union Kitchen . Since it was 6;30 on Super Bowl Sunday there were only a few tables occupied and 3 people at the bar .
However the service was great and the sandwiches were delicious : hamburgers, turkey and chicken . House salad large with great balsamic dressing. The fries were to die for ....crunchy !!!
To top it off we shared a yummy apple strudel with cinnamon ice cream.... enough for 4!
We will definitely return ...
Four adults enjoyed Union Kitchen for the first time. We each ordered something different and we each enjoyed our respective meals. Lots of good choices. We all agreed we'd go back!
Food was great. The wine menu was a little underwhelming, but otherwise it was excellent!
Creative menu, delicious food and great services! Looking forward to our next visit.
Took our nephew out for lunch.
We enjoyed the food, it was prepared well and I would recommend Union Kitchen to my friends. The noise level was high, we had to talk louder to hear one another.
loud and even though it was winter there was a very cool breeze coming from the vents overhead. the manager came over because we kept complaining to our waitress and covered vents on the floor but that is not where the cool air was coming from. The food was mostly very good. The brussel sprouts were amazing, the arugula salad was amazing, the lamb ragu and the eight hour short rib were also amazing. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich but didn't love it. Service was also very good. We will return, the place is beautiful, love the bar but it is very loud.
I was so disappointed, Rave reviews. Found menu to be un inspiring and our food was mediocre to bad. My spinach salad was terrible, slimt , and tasteless; the turkey sandwich was dry, the lox and bacon sanswich a poor combination, and the hamburger was average, The french fries were way to salty and the homemade potato chips way over done, I hate to say these things, but I need to be honest. With all the good eating places in West hartford I would not go there again, as of now.
so glad we went for lunch. Was there and love the ambiance even more with the decorating changes. Menu was excellent too!
Our two meals were very good, and our server, Breanna, was patient, polite and professional. She was extremely helpful to my wife in dealing with certain food allergies, etc.
The shrimp appetizer was outstanding, as well as the Duck and Union Burger! We will return!
First impression upon waking in Union was that they did a great job with the renovation. The space is beautiful and very inviting however food wise, our experience was not great. The prawn app had good flavor but we agreed was a little strange with the amount of corn, our entrees were lackluster to say the least. The pasta dish didn’t have much flavor, the grilled chicken was over seasoned with rosemary and the apple strudel which is supposed to be crispy, and looks like it was at one point, tasted like it was microwaved before being served to us as it was mushy. Service was off as well. Although our food came out on time and our waiter was attentive, we didn’t finish our meals and were never asked how the food was at any point. Upon mentioning the dessert wasn’t great, without any apology and with a defensive manner, the server asked us if we wanted them to take it off the bill and the manager never came over to address the issue. It seems as though the restaurant has poor management or maybe not much previous restaurant experience and they cut a lot of corners in the kitchen. I’m a firm believer in second chances especially with new restaurants so I’d try again but definitely not anytime soon or until I hear that it has improved.
Great menu, food was fantastic. The server was attentive, friendly and didn't miss a beat.
Delicious entrees, appetizers, sides and desserts. Great value for quality food and ingedients. Everything in our meal was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. Customer service was personalized and exceptional. It was an enjoyable dining experience and can’t wait to go back and plan to return to the restaurant frequently.
We had an awesome meal and the service was incredible!
great desert the English Sticky Toffee Bread pudding.
Place has potential to be really great but the food is disappointing. Been there twice and food was undercooked on both occasions.
The noise level was very loud. Booth was tight. I requested no salt added to my meal and the chicken was dry and very salty. No sides listed on the menu. Salad dressing was suppose to be blue cheese vinaigrette, but mire like an over rated Italian. We had to request bread which was served without butter or oil. It was tasteless. Over all a 3 star experience. I never send food back as you just never know what will be done to it. I expect it to be made right the first time or I don’t bother coming back. To many other good resteraunts in west hartford to choose from don’t think I will be going back
Great bar & table service, menu was diverse and everything ordered was delicious. Server, Vishwas, knew the menu and made great recommendations. He was very attentive at just the right times too.
