American
We opened in December 2018 to bring to West Hartford a fresh take on American comfort food, as designed by Chef Zach Shuman, in a comfortable, welcoming setting. Our open-concept dining area features a window into our kitchen and a contemporary bar with a softly glowing bookshelf display, which features more than 300 spirits, including highly sought after bourbons and Scotch. The duck confit poutine, pork belly, eight-hour short rib, and lamb ragu, have become quick favorites of our guests. We invite you to come share a meal or a drink with your family, and become part of ours.

In the event that you are unable to find a online reservation, do give us a call and we will do our utmost to accommodate you. We also reserve a portion of our tables for walk-in customers, and the bar is is open to walk-ins exclusively.

Delicious entrees, appetizers, sides and desserts. Great value for quality food and ingedients. Everything in our meal was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. Customer service was personalized and exceptional. It was an enjoyable dining experience and can’t wait to go back and plan to return to the restaurant frequently.

Place has potential to be really great but the food is disappointing. Been there twice and food was undercooked on both occasions.

The noise level was very loud. Booth was tight. I requested no salt added to my meal and the chicken was dry and very salty. No sides listed on the menu. Salad dressing was suppose to be blue cheese vinaigrette, but mire like an over rated Italian. We had to request bread which was served without butter or oil. It was tasteless. Over all a 3 star experience. I never send food back as you just never know what will be done to it. I expect it to be made right the first time or I don’t bother coming back. To many other good resteraunts in west hartford to choose from don’t think I will be going back

Great bar & table service, menu was diverse and everything ordered was delicious. Server, Vishwas, knew the menu and made great recommendations. He was very attentive at just the right times too.

We had a great meal at Union Kitchen, the service was exceptional, and the food delicious. The noise level was a bit extreme, which caused everyone to talk a bit louder to be heard, compounding the loud din. Our craft cocktails, made everything enjoyable.

The restaurant is a excellent addition to the West Hartford dining scene. The menu is creative and seems to include something for most anyone. The fried brussel sprouts starter with honey, sweet paprika and sea salt is to die for. The NY Strip and Bavatte Steak entrees were tender and cooked to perfection. Daniella provided pleasant and attentive service from start to finish. Service was fast but never felt rushed.

Following up on other reviews, we were initially asked a a twosome if we would sit at the high-tops in the bar area. The restaurant was nearly empty and I was with an elderly woman who clearly could not sit there. When we declined, we were happily escorted to a booth. There were never more than 3 tables occupied during the time we were there. A little common sense in seating would be nice, especially when an Open Table reservation noted this was a special occasion - not a high-top kind of dinner on a slow night.

There were some very minor flaws in service for a fine dining establishment, i.e., leaving used appetizer utensils on the table for the main course rather than replacing them with clean ones; and, clearing plates before both diners were finished. These aren't "killers" but they would further elevate the service to the quality of the menu and atmosphere.

The large and impressive bar was quiet for a Monday night, but could be a hot spot. There is no question about returning to sample some other attractive menu items.

Union Kitchen is aesthetically appealing and inviting as you enter. The food was great, too. The problem I had was that I made a reservation well in advance of NYE and upon arrival was seated at a high top table in the bar area. My friend’s chair was constantly being hit by waiters and a large group of guests gathered at the bar. There were several other tables available that would’ve been out of the way, but we were never moved, just seated right next to 2 other parties of 2 in the bar area. The seating wasn’t comfortable and was tight, to say the least. I sat and ate my dinner, while seeing tables and booths set for 4 go unused the entire time I was at the restaurant. It would’ve been nice to enjoy a meal in the dining room instead of the bar area even though I was a party of 2. I was impressed by the food, but highly disappointed in the experience because of the effort to put smaller parties in the bar area vs dining with other larger parties in the dining room.

High prices for microwaved food. Meatloaf was tough. French fries were frozen not fresh. I would expect fresh cut fries for the price. Ultimately the value was poor. They charge premium prices for mediocre food. Better quality food at cheaper prices at franchise restaurants like Red Heat. Won’t eat here again.

It was all perfect. The prixe fixe NYE menu was fantastic. We were blown away. The service was perfect and even the dessert was amazing. We will be coming back and bringing our friends. Thank you for making our New Year's dinner so special. Kudos to Nate with the great service.

I usually need to go to a restaurant a couple of times before I write a review, especially when a restaurant is newly opened, but everything at Union Kitchen was so on point, I felt compelled to write one right away.

They have a fresh take on comfort food, I'll have to come back a lot because I really want to try everything on the menu.

I've discovered a new favorite cocktail: The Merry Mule (Deep Eddy Cranberry Vodka, ginger beer and lime. Such a great seasonal cocktail and a yummy variation of a Moscow Mule.

We were offered fresh bread ahead of ordering, and it was thickly sliced, and tasted homemade. We started with PEI mussels with pork belly, mustard broth & soft pretzel bites & the duck poutine (duck confit, fries & duck gravy), and they were both delicious. The mustard broth was light and yummy, and the mini pretzel bites were great to help soak up some of it. The duck poutine was also a fresh take on poutine, the fries were fresh, and really yummy.

My main was the Eight Hour Short Rib mac'n cheese with black pepper demi, spinach and ricotta cavatelli. It was divine. Hubby ordered fish'n chips and enjoyed it. We finished off with the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. Sooo good.

Sadly, I can't remember our server's name, but she was lovely - attentive (but not too), knowledgeable and very efficient. The decor is chic and comfortable. I love the design elements and the color palette.

Unlike every other newly opened restaurant I've ever been to, Union Kitchen was on point in terms of both the food and the service. Somehow it seems fresh and yet like it's always been there (does that make sense?). I can't wait to back and I'm sure we'll be regulars.

We were very excited to check out Union Kitchen but were rather disappointed with the overall experience. Our table was wobbly and our waiter needed to lean over a wall opening to talk to us because there was little room. We were offered warm bread and the bread was cold. I got the chicken bolognes and the pasta was under cooked. My friend got the slow roast short rib which was dry and sitting on top of a bowl of Mac and cheese which made it hard to cut without getting covered in the Mac and cheese, and hidden underneath the short rib was spinach which was discovered until mid meal. His pasta was also under cooked. It was an expensive price for a subpar meal. Hopefully they work out some kinks in their first few weeks.
