The staff was very friendly when we walked in, everyone had masks on.
The drinks were great and the food was absolutely delicious!
The decor is beautiful and just about everywhere you looked was a picture worthy shot.
The food was great, The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was very much into a New Year celebration. The only problem We had was that the serves was very slow. It looked like the restaurant was not properly staffed for a large group. That took away from a great night.
The Hotel St Louis and the Union 30 restaurant are both magnificent. What a great restoration.
The specialty cocktails and food were outstanding! Fantastic ambiance and great service.
My husband ordered a prime rib med rare and it came over done.
We had to ask for sheets for the sofa bed, they should have been in room already, we had 2 adults and 2 kids.
Website just says $50 pet fee, nothing about $50 each.
There was hair on bathroom floor.
Staff at front desk was very helpful.
Wonderful!
Everything was wonderful as always
Full Disclosure: My visit was during f*ckjng-but-understandable COVID limitations:
I based my reservation on the menu posted on Union 30’s OT page, lots of really interesting, not-so-ubiquitous items that we were looking forward to getting into. Unfortunately, the posted menu was not the paired down menu optimized for low volume business. This was my only disappointment.
With that stated, the steak I ordered was much better than I expected given the sullen state of affairs and our server could not have been more eager to ensure we had a great meal. I look forward to coming back when the world is right again and giving the full creatively of the menu the once over.
Waited 30 minutes for our drinks and then another 30 minutes went by when our waiter come by with ALL of our food. Appetizers, salad, soup, and entrees. Yes, he brought ALL of the food we ordered at the same time.
Really enjoyed the salmon wish pesto sauce. Service was excellent as usual.
Excellent service! Food is really good! I would definitely go back!
Excellent food, service needs to improve to match the good quality / food in a nice area to eat.
The restaurant/hotel is beautiful. Service was awesome. The scallops and prime rib were delicious. I wouldn’t recommend the Hill Chicken. It was bland.
Ordered bbq med rare and came well done. Menu listed on open table is not up to date. Food very average in general and drinks seemed watered down.
Service was not good - we felt like we were putting the server out when we asked for additional items. Salad had brown lettuce. Water glasses went unfilled.
John and Shelby did a roundabout way of smoothing over a terrible menu description from what was served! Menu stated prosciutto with the Caesar salad but bacon bits were served. Menu stated cooked to ordered filet but was served loose tasteless sous-vide beef filet while the menu misspelled the type of beef! I was comped a $100 bottle of wine, given $50 off that total, and thanked wholeheartedly for speaking up! I know education is expensive sometimes, but seriously, wake up or find a new way to contribute and provide!
Valentines dinner was very good and reasonably priced gourmet dinner.
Good Afternoon Joe, Thank you for your feedback and so glad that you enjoyed your Valentines Dinner with us at Union 30. Chef Birk
Let me preface this review. I don't know how the food or ambiance is because we didn't actually get a chance to eat here. We left after being ignored for more than 20 minutes after being seated.
We came the day after Valentine's Day at 6:30 in the evening. There were only a handful of tables occupied. We were informed at the host stand that they were doing a Valentine's prix fix menu, even though it wasn't Valentine's day, which we were not made aware of when we made the reservation. The only other option was the late nite bar-snack menu.
Despite not being interested in the prix fix, we decided since we were there, we'd go ahead and try the bar menu. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before a server even addressed us (despite us sitting at a table right by the bar, and the person I can only assume was the manager was just steps from us). When a server did speak to us, she said she wasn't sure who our server was supposed to be, but she would take our drink orders. We then had to ask for drink menus, because we had none. She left after getting us the menu and we waited another 10 minutes, all the while listening to the manager-ish person discuss with the wait staff who should have the next table.
We finally left, since no one had come back to our table to take our drink order or ask about food. This is not a cheap restaurant. It's in a boutique hotel and is priced accordingly. It should have service that matches its price point and setting. We'd really been looking forward to trying Union 30, but after this, we are unlikely to return.
We were initially seated in area where 15 degree air blew directly on us when the door opened. Our waitress was inexperienced and unfamiliar with the menu. Her supervisor, restaurant director and chef were all great in rectifying a very unsatisfactory situation where a pre-fixe menu did not fully accommodate a vegan. In a 3-course menu, only the entree options included a a vegan entree. To mollify me, they offered the “late-night” menu on which I found a suitable salad minus the blue cheese. (They served it with the cheese and I sent it back). I opted for the offered ”appetizers” (poached pear) as my dessert minus the cheese. That came out as requested. The pre-fixe menu was advertised at $100 / couple. They charged us $123! Our waitress did not know why she was doing. I’ll go again but will request an experienced server.
Union 30's team was accommodating to kids! The food was excellent!
Super fantastic so glad that you all enjoyed everything. Chef Birk
The food has been hit and miss with me. I've gone here several times. The staff during dinner offered water about 6-7 times and kept interrupting our dinner, which was a business dinner. One of the meals also came out wrong, and the correct meal for that person didn't come out until after everyone else had finished. I order a bourbon, and that brand was out of stock (after going and checking). We ordered wine, and the bottled we ordered, was also out of stock. I hope it was just a bad night for them.
Not many people on NYE but still waited for drinks and food. Just a little training in service and this place will be a top destination in stl. I will say that although service was slightly slower than desired, the entire staff was extremely polite and professional and the chef made sure to come to our table to greet us and ask for feedback.
Service was terrible. Long wait for the server to appear, long wait for drinks and no check in after courses were delivered. Would have order more if the server would have been around.
Expected so much more. Waited too long for our cocktails. Was not offered bread like the other tables around us. Had to ask for the wine that was waiting at the bar for the table. When the food was delivered to the table the wrong steaks were given to the wrong people. We were charged a 20% gratuity, and the service was not worth 5%. We waited at the bar for over 5 minutes and were not waited on. When we got to the restaurant there was only one other table seated; there was no reason for the delay in drinks or bread. At this caliber of hotel/restaurant we expected much more. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Very nice place. Other then that not sure if we’re short handed or we just wasn’t important enough.
Appetizers were ok. Shrimp & grits were good. French onion soup was burnt like at most places. We placed our dinner order.
Was down hill from there. The tables were recently painted and had a strong smell and very sticky. Our server literally forgot we were there. We watch her wait on 4 other tables while ignoring us. Finally after about 30 minutes we flagged down a different server who basically took over. I ordered the NY Strip, medium and it came out RAW. Took 10 more minutes to get someone to take it back. Enough said. Was really looking forward to this restaurant will which has gotten some good reviews. Better luck next time. Maybe
Went for Christmas morning breakfast. Beautiful atmosphere, excellent food, great service. So many gluten free options. Can’t wait to go back!
Friendly staff, tasty food, cool IPad menus, very nice hotel lobby, excellent piano player for background music the night we were there.
Food and server were fantastic!
Took a team from work. Entres were hit and miss. Food was a bit on the heavy side, but we are used to lighter CA cuisine.
Hardly any tables being served..plenty of patrons at the bar drinking though. Anniversary dinner and no mention by host or waitress. Put it in the notes when we made reservation. A little disappointed.
I went for breakfast on a holiday morning, so I understand that may have contributed to understaffing. Service was slow, coffee was lukewarm and the "biscuit" part of the Chicken and biscuit was rock hard.
Everything was wonderful from the food to the service! Our server said everything on the menu was good, and he wasn’t lying. Highly recommend and will definitely be back again!
Fantastic love to hear that you had such a great time and hope to see you again soon. Chef Birk
The food was amazing! Creative and delicious the food is a bit Nor’leans, a bit comfort. I have nothing but good things to say about the food. The service was odd. Everything came out one item at a time. Two of us got drinks and waited 15 minutes for the rest of the table to get theirs. Kind of makes waiting to toast a bit long.
So happy that you enjoyed my take on some St Lou favs, a bit of comfort and a dash of Nawlens, we will be working on the service and hopefully your next trip to Union 30 we will all have a TOAST TOGETHER. Chef Birk
The food at this restaurant was so delicious. The Mayfair Grilled Cesar was such an interesting take on salad, and the dressing was exactly how I remember the best versions of Mayfair. The chicken and dumplings was outstanding, especially satisfying on a chilly, rainy night. My pasta was delicate and flavorful. The meal was fantastic.
But the service was awful. One appetizer didn’t show up on time, and then it took awhile for the waitress to actually get it to the table. The entrees arrived, but best I could tell, it was the food someone at another table ordered, because it wasn’t our order. The manager came to the table, took one entree away and left another “because as long as it was there, I might as well eat it.” Eventually the correct entrees arrived. We didn’t want to tempt things and decided against dessert. The waitress brought the check saying she didn’t charge us for the food the manager left at the table. Thanks?? They knew the service was bad, but no one offered any of the typical remedies. My husband said our entire meal should have been comped, but I would’ve settled for dessert. Or any sort of acknowledgement.
I really, really hope they can fix the service issues. Because the food is definitely worth the visit to the restaurant.
The food was awesome! Service was excellent! Chef and sou chef came out. I recommend it highly!
So happy you all enjoyed and we were glad to have met y'all Chef Birk
Very good experience. Filet mignon was perfect. Always a great restaurant choice.
Super Fantastic!!!! so glad you had a great time and we look forward to seeing you in the near future, thank you and please come again. Chef Birk
Service was some of the best in the city. Truly outstanding.
Great breakfast! The smoothies are tasty and healthy.
so glad you enjoyed Chef Birk
Loved the tuna tartare appetizer. I told the soul chef that his servers need to tell every customer to save room for bread pudding for dessert! Their Union 30 bread pudding is out of this world yummy!! The dulce de Lethe bread pudding has no raisins (how I like it), a buttery Carmel bourbon sauce, and a scoop of Smoked maple bourbon pecan pie ice cream on top and then it’s topped with crispy bacon. I left the bacon off. I will order this dessert every time I eat here!!! It’s to die for!! Also, Samantha is an awesome server and is very attentive.
Service was terrible and the food not well prepared. Gravy for chicken inedible, risotto was not al dente, it was uncooked. Waited over an hour for entree after appetizers were consumed. Water glasses not refilled despite asking several times. Plenty of staff and not crowded so unclear what the problem was. Extremely disappointing because beautiful venue and appealing menu— on paper only. Needs a lot of improvement
