Authentic Japanese Restaurant (combine traditional technique with modern idea) , complete with fresh sushi bar, restaurant and private room.
The chef hand picks all the finest fish, seafood and produce daily. We also serve many special seasonal dishes.
On top of that, we have 2 kinds of popular Omakase courses at $105 and $125.
Outstanding dinner and beautiful restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious and the service was really great. Can’t wait to go back!
The most authentic Japanese restaurant I have been to outside of Japan. The fish was so fresh and every dish was prepared beautifully and tasted delicious
Umeda is one of the best and genuine Japanese restaurants in LA.
It's a Nobu experience but at Melrose.
The service is wonderful and caring. The music is just right where you can dine and talk but at the same time there is music in the background.
The restaurant gives you warm towels to clean up your hands just like in Japan.
The best sake is here, the food is fresh and genuine to Japan.
One of the best places to eat and drink.
We went to Umeda on a Tuesday night and were the only patrons there. That said, it was fresh fish, very delicious, and the service was fantastic. I would go back again and expect it would be more populated on a Thursday - Sunday.
Lovely staff, super quiet, and amazing food!!!
Waited way too long for each dish. Very pricey for the amount of food. Excellent service. Nice decor. Good sake.
Excellence spot with terrific food, service and ambiance! We love it here.
My first visit to Umeda was a pleasant surprise. The elegant, contemporary decor and attentive staff set the tone. Our table of four was there for a pre-theater dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifuly presented. I had several items like a delicious corn tempura, that I'd never had before and staff was open to preparing some requested rolls not on the menu.
Chef Umeda is amazing, ask for whatever specials he has.
Ok... this wasn't my first time at Umeda... I have grown to love this restaurant. First Off, the decor is simple, but elegant, and their glass floor entrance is beautiful... the service is always nice and helpful, and as a celiac, they make several of the dishes gluten-free for me.
Their food is always FANTASTIC! The crispy Rice Tuna is possibly the best I've ever had (I can't stop eating it). The Scallops and Lentil Salsa was INSANE how good it is, and their chowder is heavenly.
I can't recommend Umeda enough.
5 hearts! ♡♡♡♡♡
Food was creative and outstanding. Service was exemplary. We really enjoyed it! It is a step above your every day sushi restaurant and as such, is more expensive, but worth it. Everything was very delicious and beautifully presented. Lovely restaurant. I’m sure we will return.
SO delicious and fresh. The waitress was amazing. Made my first time in LA amazing. Thank you!!!
Always delicious just wish there was another sushi chef !
Thirty five minutes after our reservation, only then did they find time to seat us.
Been to many sushi bars in LA , but this place is a hidden traditional Japanese jam. Highly reccomend !!
The sushi here is EXCELLENT... but only after you finally get it to your table. We tried to be patient and understanding, but the service was awfully S-L-O-W. There was 1 server taking care of 6 tables with 2 chefs in the kitchen. 15 minutes before we could order. 55 minutes before ANY food came. We got drunk off sake to pass the time. The saving grace was that the server was apologetic and kind, but that just only goes so far. We didn't feel the restaurant was packed, the food just took a very very long time. Pacing of food across the 6 parties would have been nice.
The sushi was good enough to give this spot another try. One can be hopeful that things improve.
Favorite restaurant hands down in LA! Amazing service, incredible food, would live here if I could!
Flawless fish and service. Elegant preparation in which the fish is truly the star of the show. Compliments to the chef!
Really lovely place. Calm. Minimal. Food was great.
Excellent delicious sushi. One of the best I've had. Service was impeccable.
Always excellent quality
I wasn’t a fan of the cod tempura. That’s my only complaint! I ordered it out of curiosity. The fresh eel, yellowtail, spicy tuna roll were all fantastic. I also enjoyed the seafood dumpling. Seems like the restaurant is easing into the post covid crowd as one server was managing about 5 tables at one point. She did a great job juggling seating guests, taking and delivering orders, drinks, and food…
I would recommend this place for some quality, delicious sushi.
The food and staff were fantastic. Will absolutely go again.
Hands down best sushi in town. Period. I’ve had sushi at NOBU, Matsuhisa, All of them. UMEDA sushi is clean, sophisticated and a cut above. They don’t hide behind sauces and fluff. The level of fish quality is a cut above. The staff are warm and inviting. It’s always a lovely spot, and has never let me down.
Made a reservation in advance to have a special night for a birthday celebration. Server was very obviously not trained and very clueless. They tried to put us by the front door right in the middle of all the foot traffic. They also must have not gotten the memo that Covid isn't spread by touch, because they forced us to use a QR code menu THAT DIDN'T EVEN WORK. After barely greeting us we were left to wait without being served drinks for awhile. We're used to high quality sushi restaurants with amazing service. This was not the case. When he finally decided to come talk to us we ordered the special Omakase menu that was the entire reason we made the reservation. The waiter said that the chef didn't feel like making that for us tonight. He didn't feel like it? Are you serious?? We left. And ended up at a sushi restaurant that knows how's to treat their customers and are so happy we didn't go to this place. Read my other review if you want to go to a quality sushi restaurant that knows what they are doing. This is superficial restaurant without substance. Spend your money elsewhere.
Phenomenal, fresh, and tasty sushi. And authentic to boot. Great interior aesthetic and kind staff.
This is the highest quality sushi on the planet! We have eaten at Nobu and less famous sushi reaching for that “Oh wow!” Moment. Umeda nails it. I wish I could just trust the chef to bring out the food, but I am picky. I loved everything.
The waitress is adorable, efficient and commands the menu very well.
Don’t be in a hurry. They work really hard to serve 16 people at a time and there is no room for impatience. It is on the higher price scale but, It seems priced appropriately for the quality. We loved our dinner.
Outstanding service. Exceptional food. Always a great date night at UMEDA!
Lovely /quiet place
The chef at Umeda is a master. The food is delivered as it would be in a restaurant in Japan, as it is done, rather than all at once. This requires a bit of patience for an American with different expectations, but the payoff is the superb cuisine. There is a complete selection of food for vegetarians and vegans as well as omnivores.
Food was okay, nothing special. Expect to pay a lot!
Excellent, very fresh with interesting but delicate touches. The entrance is a bit of a surprise: clear plexiglass over a small canyon-streambed several feet deep.
Wonderful, fresh sushi in a relaxing environment. We found the service to be warm and friendly, highly recommend!
Amazing place very welcoming and the food is top notch,
Everything was above perfect,
Fine sushi dining.
It was great the food was excellent, the wait staff was really awesome and pleasant.
We didn’t get our first portion til an hour after we were seated. The sushi is good but not mind blowing - kind of overpriced.
Just poor service and overall a little disorganized. We were disappointed.
Went for a birthday celebration, but were bummed that there was no omakase due to Covid - considering this isn’t advertised on their website. However, food turned out to be delicious and the service was good.
Sushi was fuego, service was on point, 10/10 would recommend.
