Tupelo Honey was always a treat for me when coming to town prior to them “becoming a chain”. Having said that, I always looked forward to their sweet potato pancakes which was always a special treat. Unfortunately, they were not cooked properly. So very sad. For me, Tupelo Honey lost their personality. I’ll be trying somewhere new...
drove over two hrs and lady up front was kind of pushy because I didn't have a mask.
I know she was only doing her job but she could have been nicer.
After visiting the Downton location the day before, our family loved the food and vibe and wanted to get one last fix before heading out of town. Made reservations via opentable and arrived about an hour ahead of schedule. Checked in with host and inquired if there was a possibility of getting in early, was told quickly No- they had reservations and would be able
To get to us until 1:00, ok understood that. No one was in waiting area and tables were open inside and out but I get it. There were three people at hostess stand, come to find out one of the three standing there was the restaurant manager but she said nothing until the end of our visit when she apologized.
Server was ok, he tried and may have had too many tables to be attentive to beverages needed refills, appetizers taking a long time and food was 45 minutes after ordering. Fried pickles finally came out and were hot. Our big surprise was the difference in food from one location to the other. I ordered the sweet and spicy chicken again.. downtown chicken was coated evenly with the sauce so that every bite was consistent and had the flavor all the way through.. south location drizzled sauce on chicken and no much of it.. undersides of chicken had nothing.. another difference was the size of the sides.. here was definitely smaller. Wife ordered the four veggie plate- again portions here were different and smaller than what we had experienced the evening before.
We were very disappointed with the experience, considering all of the hype. We had to sit outside, which we were aware of there not being heat, but that’s the reason for the ambience low score. The shrimp and grits were pretty good, but the burger (we asked for medium), was pretty well done, and there was no seasoning - we could have made a much better burger at home. The fries weren’t great either and seemed like they came from a freezer bag. We chose this restaurant because of the chef, but wouldn’t go back again. The service was okay, the waiter seemed a little inexperienced, and said a few things that maybe should have been kept to themself.
Good food and good service, but very pricy for country cooking.
The food was outstanding. Best collard greens and mac&cheese anywhere. The service was commendable.
Poor service lack of attention order biscuits was told 15 min we canceled them at 30 min. Lot of noise hard to talk.
Tupelo Honey can always be counted on for a great meal and friendly service. As a bonus, they are doing very well with Covid precautions. We certainly appreciate that!
Food was superb. Wait staff wonderful. One of my faves in Asheville.
Seemed like more of an older crowd when we were there, no big deal on that though..what I had an issue with was the shrimp and grits. There was an inch layer of seasoned sure to have you running to the bathroom, seasoning and scolding hot butter fatty "sauce?" where it made the shrimp and grits more of a dysfunctional stew where you couldn't eat the grits because the texture was completely 'melted / liquidfied. To put that layer of boiling spicy butter down your gullet, I could feel my innards yell up to me..."dude, be careful, you are playing with fire here, you gotta drive ahead of you."
Delicious food, great service. Always a good experience!
The new menu was excellent, particularly the cauliflower bowl I had. Our waitperson was lovely; not only did she give us time to chat before we looked at the menu and ordered, but she suggested we move when the wind picked up and it looked like rain. Tupelo Honey is always a favorite!
Great outdoor seating and all tables are well spaced. Love the Combo Lunch menu at unbeatable price. Service staff very attentive. Well done.
Chicken was very good. Waffles the same. Sat outside. Service was very good.
Good food again. Service and value of meal very good
Lovely and nearby to the open air dining area! Amazing food and great service
We have eaten at Tupelo honey for years when passing thru Asheville. We were quite disappointed that the chicken on the biscuits and gravy is no longer white meat. We would have been happy to pay extra for all white meat, but nothing was specified on the menu, so we didn’t know to ask for this. We asked the server when our food came, but he brushed us off and walked away.
We love going here for brunch food. I haven’t had any dish I didn’t enjoy. The staff are friendly and seasoned. They do a great job!
Great experience for our 2nd visit - well spaced tables and masked wait staff, delicious food and drinks.
Due to covid, you have to download the menu, and the pictures do not correspond on the webpage with the menu items, so you kind of end up guessing what you are ordering. This happened to us and we both ended up with something that was not really what we wanted. Menu has become overwhelmingly southern, very heavy carbs, where it used to be more varied
This is our go-to restaurant every time we're near Asheville, the food is locally sourced and delicious, staff is fabulous.
A friend and I went to lunch. Since neither of us has a huge appetite, we chose appetizers. I got the fried green tomatoes, and she ordered the avocado toast. Both were excellent. While the fried green tomatoes were yummy, the portion was not quite enough to make a meal for me. Since I usually don't have room for dessert, I opted to get the "mini" size of banana pudding. It was just enough to finish filling me up. I want to go back and have the avocado toast as well as the fried chicken, peach coleslaw and salted beet salad.
This has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants while vacationing in NC. Excellent food and service. Collards and chicken are delicious.
Absolutely wonderful meal. Great service and incredible food!
yum!!! food was fantastic and the various types of mimosas were great!!!
Jack our server was amazing. He was on point with recommendations and any needs. We even had a quick NBA discussion. The food was delicious. My family enjoyed our dinner to the fullest.
A little out of the way, but also away from downtown.
Still the great food and service!
They were out of fried green tomatoes and catfish. The chicken and waffles were not warm when served. Unimpressed unfortunately.
We have come to rely on Tupelo Honey for its great food and innovative recipes they introduce from time to time. Our dinner did not disappoint. Loved the Rainbow Avocado Bowl - new to us!! The other thing we really appreciated was the appropriate table spacing and servers all wearing masks. We continue to support TH for all of these reasons!
The food is always delicious and the staff was helpful in seating us on time.
Server did not bring tableware. Had to ask when food was brought out.
A salad was served with dressing after the order specified none.
Fried green tomatoes undercooked.
No handicapped parking directly in front. Seems all spaces are for take-out.
Too expensive for the quality.
We were spoiled year ago when you were one location in downtown Asheville but realize that quality usually suffers with expansion. Most likely will not return.
Was not a pleasant experience. We arrived and were sat immediately due to having a reservation. However, the seat was half in the restaurant and half on the patio. We were not aware this was a “pet friendly” restaurant. So our seat being so close to the outside meant we were in the midst of 4 dogs who were barking and sniffing the entire dinner. Also meant we smelled wet dog during our entire meal. And about the meal, the service was subpar at best. Our server must have been sat all over the restaurant so she was well behind. They brought my wife lemonade, but neglected to mention it had lavender it. So she was drinking an Arnold Palmer and felt like she was drinking the same oils she was just massaged in. The grits were good but the fired green tomatoes were sour. The bread was super, but the overall food lacked. My wife ordered the Buttermilk chicken and it was fatty and kinda slimy. I had a chicken sandwich but had to eat it with a knife and fork due the bread being wet and soggy. Not a great experience and will not be going back.
First our waiter was awesome in spite of being double sat with 2 larger parties. He was attentive and food was delivered hot! Easter Brunch meal was soo mercy Chicken and pancakes were yummy. Cocktails were interesting and well prepared. Felt comfortable inside with social distancing etc. Everyone working there had masks.
Patrons outside I felt some were disrespectful with smoking right in front of entrance and also where people were dining.
I would recommend.
The hostess was extremely nice—she was the highlight of the experience.
I had been craving the fried chicken for months, but it ended up being on the dry side. Also, our waitress was not very friendly—maybe she was nervous about COVID.
Overall a disappointment.
You won't go wrong dining here! Excellent service, delicious food with an awesome presentation! Be sure to get a reservation in advance.
We went for Easter brunch. We had a reservation so we could sit outside but instead were sat by the kitchen with many empty tables outside and in better locations. We asked to move but were told it was for those who made reservations! (Like us) Food was good but not good enough for the price and bad service to return.
Always a great experience...delicious food, great service
We visited for Easter Brunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were friendly and the service was exceptional. We decided on the "Old Skool Breakfast Bowl" and it was awesome. We will be returning.
We booked an outside table but the hostess was kind enough to allow us to use an indoor table (too cold!) - with the caveat that we would be on a time schedule because it was reserved by someone in 45 minutes. I told her that as long as the kitchen could keep up, that wouldn’t be an issue. Apparently the waitress didn’t get the memo so I mentioned it to her after drinks took ten minutes to reach our table. It didn’t really seem to speed her up much - it was another five minutes before she took our order and our food arrived 40 minutes after we were seated. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal but after the hostess was clear to say it was going to need to be an expedient visit, it definitely was not. Nobody said anything about us being there well into someone else’s reservation (thank you!) but our waitress never really did speed up - the check took a good ten minutes to be picked up after arriving well after our meals were finished. I am not sure if she was overwhelmed with how busy it was or if she’s just not a great waitress. Either way, the experience ended just fine for us but there might have been another party which had a negative experience as a result.
