About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

First, the service was great, as was the meal quality. I am a shrimp and grits snob and it was great. What was disappointing was my family went out of our way to respect the dress code, only to see a couple in gym shorts and running shoes, and another with a lady wearing a weathered AC/DC t-shirt. I don’t judge them, but it would have been nice for my family and I to dress more casual as well. Please update the website to let people know the dress code does not apply to brunch.

We went to Tujague's 20 years ago and the food and the atmosphere were amazing. So decided to go back in May 2025. Looks like they moved into a new location which was missing the ambience of the old place. The food was mediocre at best. They only had one of our bottles of wine and when we asked the staff to select a similar bottle for us, they brought and opened a new bottle that was $50 more expensive (without notifying us) and the wine was awful. Our fault for not checking first, but really put a damper on the place. As compared to many of the newer high end places that are now around, I wouldn't recommend that one.

First time at Tujaque’s new location and we missed a lot from the previous version of the restaurant. The food was good but the noise level was off the charts and distracted from the experience. Our waiter was ok but certainly not outstanding.

Wish the website was more clear that the Mother’s Day menu would be the only options available for today. Also some things we ordered came out in smaller sizing for our table and bigger sizing for the table next to us although we had the same options.
    Tujague's - New OrleansResponded on May 20, 2025
Shawna, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm sorry the website was not more clear on the menu availbility on Mother's Day, I will make sure those details are clearly stated from now on. I am sorry to hear about the difference in portion sizing - obviously no two plates are identical but there should not have been a continual size difference. I really appreciate your feedback. Best, Kylie @ Tujague's
