Tryst - St Petersburg
Talk about a perfect Easter Sunday brunch spot! We enjoyed every sip, taste and people-watching-glance! We can't wait for our next Tryst in St Pete!
We had theatre tickets at 7. The kale and cauliflower salad and the grilled snapper w romescp sauce were great to split. Good house Pinot Noir too. Thank you.
Met a friend for dinner. sat outside. was a lovely night. the menu has changed, was great. the only thing is we always go there for the chicken wings and they took them off the menu. will definitely go again.
Our server was great and my son’s short rib sliders were very good. The cocktails were spot on. I ordered the gnocchi with steak. The gnocchi and sauce were good but the “steak” was actually a crumbled up hamburger. If you don’t have steak, say so. But don’t call it steak and bring out a hamburger.
Overall a very pleasant experience. The sweet potato hummus was delicious but they don't give you enough pita chips to go with it; the chips should be doubled. The clam fries are very average and were a bit leathery! Our entrees were great except for my daughter's Cuban sandwich which had a strange sweet flavor (and it wasn't the pickle in it). We sat outside as it was a beautiful evening and that was lovely. The service was great. We would go again and just stay away from certain items. They really should fix the clam fries or change it to a more standard "fried calamari"!
Great atmosphere and tremendous food. Would love to visit again!
We tried Tryst because recently recommended in Southern Living article. Trendy, popular location. Food and drinks were excellent. Our table was inside, which was a bit loud, since bar customers were very near.
What an interesting neighborhood restaurant! On the other end of Beach Dr, somewhat away from the hustle and bustle, but within walking distance of all the other things that make the St. Petersburg waterfront so desirable. The decor is eclectic, comfortable and just the right amount of seating to keep Tryst a neighborhood favorite. The chef has put together a delicious, equally as eclectic menu. We opened our meal with the Brussel Sprouts on the barbie and the sweet potato fries, while one was better than the other the accompanying dipping sauces were delightful. Our table had one order of chicken cordon bleu, roasted beet salad and two roasted romaine salads....no one was disappointed in their selection and when dining with good friends sharing from each other's plates is always acceptable! On an early Sunday evening it wasn't too crowded, but it certainly picked up and the noise level increased, but not too distracting to our own table conversation! Even with so many restaurants to choose from in the area we walked away knowing we would come back. Seriously, compliments to the Chef, it was an unexpected menu.
Not impressed and it did not live up to the reviews we read. The service was subpar; our server forgot our order, brought the wrong food, and was overall lacking. The food was mediocre, but the noise from the DJ was obnoxiously loud. It was impossible to carry on a conversation and the defending music completely disrupted the ambiance of the meal. I would not return, there are too many other great spots on the same strip.
The restaurant didn’t really match the Open Table descriptions which made it seem more high end than it was. It’s really just a bar and while the food was fair, it wasn’t exceptional for the pricing, service, or taste.
It was Valentines Day. The prix fixe menu had great options, and everything we ordered was excellent. The live music was lovely. We sat at an outside table, and we were lucky because the weather was perfect. The server was sufficient with a good attitude, but drinks took a while, and they were a little inconsistent in flavor. If I’m spending $10 on a drink that barely has one shot of liquor in it, it better taste amazing. Overall, though, it was a lovely dining experience.
Went there for Valentines with another couple. We sat outside on a cool night with the heater. The Prix Fixe dinner menu gave a variety of choices. Everyone in our party was happy with their food. The ambiance was enhanced with the performance of a young singer/guitarist named Conor. We were still able to carry on a conversation with her great music not overwhelming us with volume.
This is the first time I've tried this place. We went on Valentine's day, and was not aware that there was a limited menu (more expensive than the usual menu). I ordered the steak, medium well, and it came out almost raw (and room temperature). When our waitress saw it, she immediately took it back and apologized. It came back (the same steak), and while parts were better, there were still sections that were rare, at best. I would say I ate about 10% of the steak, after my wife had already finished her meal while I was waiting for my steak to be recooked.
I'm not an expert, but I can't imagine that re-cooking a room-temperature steak can ever really work.
The meal itself was $50 (not including $9-ish beers that were lukewarm), and the waitress took $7 off my bill. I didn't argue, because what's the point? I won't be going back. Completely and utterly unimpressed.
In the past I have enjoyed Tryst unfortunately the Red Snapper order last night was not good. You could tell the moment it got to the table it should not have been served. The waiter really didn’t seem to care at all that it was not good. This was a go to place for a casual dinner but it is now off my list.
Very good overall.
Food and service were good but it was difficult to have conversation because it was so loud
Veggie Sliders and Sweet Potato Hummus were excellent. Grilled Romaine Salad was limp and tasteless. Our first time dining here because they allow smoking in their outdoor seating in front of the restaurant and it's usually nasty to walk by, especially if someone is smoking a cigar; this night was really windy so we didn't worry about the cigarette smoke blowing into the restaurant. However, the crowd was too LOUD inside as was the music, so it was not a relaxed meal. Too bad, as there are some interesting items on the menu that I'd like to go back and try.
This place never disappoints! I took my coworkers here after a long day of CE lectures and it was just the right place. The DJ who plays outside the restaurant is awesome and the food/cocktails are delicious! They even have hot warmers for outside seating. When I visit St Pete, this is my place.
the acoustics are absolutely horrible. Please add sound absorbing materials.
it will make the customer happy and your staff will benefit as well.
I could not have a normal conversation due to the noise from other tables and conversations.
it is a shame...great food, friendly staff good location.
to the surveyors: PLEASE change the options und Noise level.....duhh
My wife and I ordered cocktails and an appetizer (ginger chicken lettuce wraps with sweet coconut rice), both were excellent. For dinner I had the NY strip, which was good, but my wife got the gnocchi, and it was the best either of us had either had. It was a trusty exceptional dish, so good that after we finished our entrees we ordered another plate of gnocchi for “dessert”. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food and music
Made reservations and table wasn’t ready. Extremely small portions and didn’t taste good. 2 people. She had to drinks and I had water. $ 129.00. I don’t mine paying for good food as long as portions are decent. I tried to contact manager and never got response.
Cool place to sit outside in downtown St Pete. Food is pretty consistent and the staff is very friendly. I had to contact Open Table to get me the points as the hostess/host sometimes does not acknowledge that you had a reservation.
Great location on Beach Drive right in the middle of everything. Outdoor dining was very comfortable and the people watching was amazing. Food and service worth a the four star rating. Will definitely eat there again!
Took dad there for Christmas dinner. Requested inside seating when I made the reservation. Got there and they had a high top reserved for us. Dad is 94 and not able to sit at a high top. Ended up sitting outside and wasn’t uncomfortably cold. Food was great. Server was very nice. Chicken cordon bleu was very good.
Christmas Dinner at Tryst was wonderful. Ambience was great, Food was perfect, and waiter was outstanding. Couldn’t ask for more!
The ambiance was. Our waiter was very good as was the service with our drinks and delivery time of the food. Food quality was just not as good as expected. Our roasted beet & arugula salad was good. For our mains we ordered Grilled Chili Lime Shrimp Tacos and The Pan Seared Snapper, which were a disappointment. The taco filling was fine, but the corn tortilla was stale and without taste, while the snapper was tough and overcooked.
This place was a pleasant find, with abundant sidewalk seating, and good live music (too bad the noise ordinance prevents live music after 9pm). The menu was adequate, the food was tasty. The only problem was the waiter who, while attentive enough, was one of those who seems to have pride in his ability to be able to remember the order without writing anything down, but who then forgets some things -- dressing on the side, no bacon; he did admit to his mistakes -- didn't try to blame the kitchen. But he needs to write it all down.
Made reservation due to online reviews. When we got there we found out it is very small and most of space taken up by the bar. Definitely not what we had in mind. VERY loud and crowded so we left before ordering anything. Hostess did recommend a nearby restaurant which was great. If you looking for a bar, this is it. If however you are expecting a nice dinner definitely go elsewhere.
WE ARRIVED AT 6:45 BEFORE IT REALLY GETS NOISY. THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND THE BURGERS WERE AWESOME. OUR SERVER WAS NOT THE BEST AND HE SCREWED UP OUR BILLS. IF YOU LOVE A LOUD RESTAURANT DINE AFTER 8.
Food and service were exceptional. Outside seating available which is a plus for a nice evening.
Food was lack-luster for the price. Needs more flavor - even salt and pepper.
GREAT FOOD BUT WAAAAAAYYYY TO LOUD FOR FAMILY DINNER - NO CONVERSATION POSSIBLE.
Our server wasn’t familiar with the menu. I had the Gnocchi and added “Black Angus Steak”. This gives the impression it would be pieces of steak but what was added was ground beef. Still tasted good just should be what’s advertised especially considering the price. $6 to add ground beef to my dish is insane.
Love their brunch !
Great service and drink selection. Food is ok but the service and ambiance compensated for the standard food. This place get very lively in the evening and it’s a good place to be seen and people watch.
Very limited menu. Very noisy. Best for a young group out for drinks
Came here early for dinner one evening with my spouse, but even coming in early before the EXCESSIVELY LOUD bar crowd arrives, the service was somewhat slow, the front doors are left open so flies were everywhere (gross!), and the food is just average, despite how well they present it on the plates. More of a bar, so don't go here for a meal if you want to hear the person you're talking to and enjoy a meal.
Dined at the bar rather than a table inside because it was our preference. The bartender was excellent in explaining Tryst's take on menu items and citing the chef's credentials. Loved the beet and arugula salad with goat cheese. Gnocchi is one of our favorites and this version was outstanding and available with optional protein. The atmosphere was very friendly. Live entertainment out front caught the attention of outdoor patrons and passers-by (the restaurant should definitely air that music inside as well so patrons there can appreciate it too). Will definitely dine here again!
Rainy day in St Pete made better by a great lunch at this restaurant. Excellent bar service.
