First of all, let me state that Trevi's Grill is a hotel restaurant. The ambiance is what you would expect in a hotel: nonexistant. (Yes, we have dined in hotel restaurants that had excellent ambiance. They were an unexpected pleasure.) For a hotel restaurant, it's pretty good.
My wife and I had Thanksgiving supper at Trevi's. They were still cleaning up from the Thanksgiving luncheon, so the restaurant was a bit disorganized. However, our server, Pete, was very helpful and friendly. (Pete had been working for about nine hours that day, so we were very impressed with him.)
We both started with wine — my wife with the "Whispering Angel" rose and I with the "Kris" pinot grigio. My wife liked the rose very much. The pinot grigio was, well, wine. It really had no character, which is unusual for an Italian wine. Two stars for the combination.
Our meals started with a small Caesar salad. This was very disappointing: a Caesar salad should have crisp lettuce and, preferably, have the lettuce lightly coated with dressing before being served. The lettuce was limp and came with the dressing in a side dish. Zero stars for the salad course. (We declined to complain, figuring that ALL the lettuce was probably in the same shape.)
For our main course, my wife chose the crab cakes and I chose the blackened salmon. We both pronounced our entrees as excellent. The salmon was flaky and moist, and came with a delicious serving of rice. Five stars for the entrees!
For dessert, we decided to share one cheesecake. Pete brought us coffee and "cream," which turned out to be milk. This DID elicit a complaint from my wife, and Pete graciously brought her a fresh coffee and a pitcher with real cream (or, at least, half and half). The cheesecake was delicious and made the perfect ending for the meal. The coffee was very good also and, I believe, Pete had brewed a fresh pot just for us.
So, for a good meal, Trevi's works well. Just avoid the Caesar salad and the Kris pinot grigio.
