Trattoria Il Panino
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. The entrance on 260 Hanover street has a full liquor license.
Absolutely heavenly experience. With a part of the resteraunt closed, I’m assuming due to the fire last month, we were seated at an outdoor table with heaters overhead. It was cozy and looked quite rustic and charming. Great wine and friendly service was great but the food was exquisite. Nothing fancy, just plain superb. We had the vegetable antipasto to start, light and delicious. We then had the Penne Arrabiata and Beef Lasagne, both were perfect. The laid back vibe and simply fantastic cooking make this a must try. Bravo and thanks for a great night out.
Excellent food and wine. Tables are metal - less homey than I remembered. Good, attentive, non-intrusive service.
One of the best meals I've had. Hands down. Italian or not. Great food and friendly staff.
I have no idea what happened to this place, as the menu used to be better. When we arrived, the hostess came out and wouldn't even let us or another party in as she didn't want to 'get confused' until she could set the tables. We waited in the cold for about 5 minutes until she let us in. Very odd. Our server was very friendly and helpful and the only saving grace to our visit. The menu was disappointing and food even worse. I had the grilled seafood platter (shrimp, scallops, calamari, fish) and although cooked properly, it tasted only like the grill, I barely could eat any of it. It also had no seasoning on it. The rest of my party got pasta and one dish was just seasoned with pure jalapeno and jalapeno juice. Unfortunately, we will not be back as there are so many amazing restaurants to choose from in the North End.
Best Italian food I’ve had since coming back from Europe last year! Servers were all very nice and the food was delicious. Definitely would come back whenever I’m back in boston.
We had a 7:45 pm reservation and were not sat until 8:30 pm which is unacceptable.
They overbook thus make a reservation and be firm to secure your table. Very busy however worth it. Sat in basement which was nicely staffed. Food came quickly and very good given how busy the place is.
Food and drinks were absolutely fantastic. Definitely coming back here again, hopefully soon
Everything was amazing !! Had a reservation and which we were there early and they accommodated us to get in early despite they were overwhelmed with a mix up on the reservation system! Not a big deal .. no complaints from me or rest of my party .. can’t wait to go back
Although we were seated quickly, it took a while for us to be greeted by a server. Silverware and wine glass were dirty. My husband had a pasta dish, which he enjoyed, and my daughter had the steak, which was fine except for the fact that her fries came out about 10 minutes after the steak. My salmon came out after their meals, and it was so overcooked that it was very difficult to eat. My husband tried a bite and he compared the texture of the salmon to that of beef jerky. Lastly, the one unisex bathroom is right next to the kitchen. There is a little space to the left of the kitchen that is used by both customers heading to the bathroom and the servers that need to get back into the kitchen. I was waiting in line to use the bathroom and one of the female servers said to me in a very rude tone, "You open the door and you go in." I assume she was in a rush to get back into the kitchen, but that is no excuse for being rude to a customer. I hope that someone in charge will take this review seriously and address all these issues with the staff.
You always have a good time at trattoria, plus everytime you order food its going to be as good as last time or even better!
It was highly recommended to me and I highly recommended it to anyone. I ordered “mamas lasagna” and it was amazing! The Cannoli for dessert was so good! Service doesn’t get any better!
My bf and I came here for Boston restaurant week and I’m so happy we did. I find usually a lot of the restaurants in the north end are sorta the same, but this blew all the others out of the water. The food was incredible, best gnocchi and tiramisu I’ve ever had and I lived in Italy for a period of time.
Would recommend over and over!
Had a wonderful waiter and the food was delicious!!!
Everything we had was a bit over cooked. Flavors were nice, but meat and seafood both were tough and dry.
We had an amazing meal at Trattorial Il Panino during restaurant week. They were very busy, and working in a smaller space due to a recent fire. Despite this the hostess was communicating with everyone and kept people moving. I was incredibly impressed by the chefs, who were churning out delicious 3-4 course meals in a tiny space at lightning speed. I had the caprese, gnocchi, and tiramisu and my gf had the prosciutto, osso bucco, and tiramisu. The osso bucco was falling off the bone and wonderfully delicious. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly in a creamy tomato sauce. We will definitely be going back to taste the rest of the menu!
The restaurant has been temporarily? relocated to what appears to be outdoor seating and was alternately too cold or too warm. There was no after dinner coffee available and precisely 2 desserts offered. Staff did their best under the circumstances, but until they renovate, the wonderful food was
overshadowed by the unpleasant, noisy atmosphere.
Great service and excellent food !
Waiters were excellent and welcoming.
Trattoria Il Panino was a perfect choice for an Italian meal in the North End on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Great food -- loved the bresaola and the meatballs for appetizers -- and all three entrees were delicious (eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, and tortellini with ham and cream). The service was excellent, even though the wait staff was incredibly busy. Great restaurant.
Didn't even get in to the restaurant until a full hour after scheduled restaurant- so disgusted that went somewhere else - had to wait outside in cold and they even let in some of their buddies before people who had scheduled reservations. Don't book your restaurant like you have your full restaurant if you know you are under construction- it is rude to the rest of us who were looking forward to dinner.
Saw from a walkby and it looked charming, but it just turned out to be overcrowded and ordinary.
Although it is located in th heart of Hanover St, it is not your typical restaurant. Tables are extremely crammed and the basement is 95 degrees and smells. I can’t judge on the food or service as my wife and I left before even getting a menu. Ambiance is just not there.
Food was fantastic. Waiter was a bit abraisive and pushy.
The food is fantastic - try any of the ravioli dishes. My favorite is the mushroom ravioli in a creme truffle sauce. The cocktails are also top flight - don't miss the espresso martini!
Very nice food! Huge huge huge portions!! Only missed one star on service because we weren’t offered desert, maybe that’s because we left so much of our main courses!!
We had a wonderful evening at Trattoria Il Panino. The restaurant was very romantic and cozy— and the food exceptional!
Their espresso machine had broken and they were without the ability to serve coffee for a week but I also understand that they are moving, so there seems to be some transitioning going on. Despite all of that we had an amazing evening And I highly recommend this lovely restaurant. We had been transported to Italy for the evening!
Good food and staff. They took care of my father and I. Servings were good sized and fairly priced.
Amazing food. Wonderful and friendly service. Fun ambiance. Couldn’t recommend more.
everything we got was delicious!!! highly recommend the meatball app as well as the stuffed squash flowers -- YUM!!! I had the lasagna which was melt-in-your-mouth amazing, it's called Mama's lasagna and it delivers -- tasted like versions I had in Rome. The wait staff was attentive and just really nice.
Love this spot!!!
As always awesome!
Not Bad, they are working on the main restaurant but the outdoor section got cold
we ordered penne with vodka sauce and penne arrabiata. Both dishes tasted like pasta with regular sauce - if you are going to charge $20+ for a pasta dish, make it worthwhile.
Best tortellini I've ever had. Quick and friendly service.
Overall excellent food. Great value and exceptional service . If looking for some of the best food in Boston be sure to visit .
The food was amazing. Though there was a bit of a wait it was worth it
The owner was yelling at everyone. Customers included. We watched her tell a party of 6 that there reservation was “considered cancelled” because they didn’t have space to seat them. We go to the north end so frequently and I will never return here or recommend this place.
Fabulous atmosphere and excellent service and food
Food was excellent. Our waiter was phenomenal.. deff will be back
Loved this place. small, great service and food. Best to make a res because it can get very busy.
