Trattoria Il Panino
and back of the house form a desirable marriage.
We had reservations for 7:30 and wanted to sit outside on the patio. We only had to wait about 10 minutes extra and our table was ready. The hostess brought menus and a few minutes later crusty Italian bread was delivered, then our server came over to ask our drink preferences. They were out of a couple wines but our server asked what we liked, then recommended a couple. He brought us a “taste” of both and we chose one that we both liked. I ordered the pasta (all are homemade) in a ragu sauce and my partner ordered the fish special with a side of vegetables. We shared and felt both meals were excellent! We will definitely be back the next time we are in the North End and have a desire for good Italian food.
Fantastic experience. Food was excellent. Visiting from Fort Worth and met friends from Phoenix. Had a wonderful evening!
It ended up being an excellent choice for a pre-concert dinner. Easy walk to TD Garden. Fast service and good food. Only negative was witnessing the entire wait staff handling the bread.
Always awesome!!! From gorgeous bar to pasta dishes served in a pan, Trattoria is our "go to" spot in the North End!
Wonderful and romantic place. Great food and atmosphere.
They sat us in the bar area which was crowded, the service was lackluster but the food was good.
Great food and service!!
Food was fantastic! Recommended by our hotel and would definitely go again.
My husband and I had our first wedding anniversary dinner here on Saturday night. Our waiter was wonderful as was the hostess and manger. The food was great, service was great! A+
I had a reservation for table for 2. It was my birthday. We were seated downstairs at a table for 4 at bottom of the stairs. It was the worst table and the room had no customers at the time. I asked the hostess if we could have a better table and I was told "that is a good table". She was rude. I sat back at table and asked waiter if we could move and he accomadated us. The food was good. The hostess was very rude.
I have been coming here for over twenty years and have never had a less than amazing experience. It’s truly the best restaurant in the North End!
We met some friends who were ironically in Boston at the same time as us for dinner. I asked around before traveling and this place came as a top recommendation. We ordered the ricotta ravioli, Paccheri al Ragú, Gnocchi alla Sorrentina and Tortelli Panna e Prosciutto. We also shared the meatballs for an app and two bottles of delicious red wine. Our server was friendly and helpful in making suggestions for dinner! I would go back the next time I'm in Boston.
Excellent food, but waiter had no personality- we didn’t even know he was our helper until I asked.
Good food in a nice place. Highly recommend it. Wife and daughter had the lobster ravioli, son had the cheese ravioli, and I had the four meat ragu. All was great but the meatball on my meal was fantastic. I’d go back just for the meatballs!
The food was amazing!!! Service was impeccable!
Would definitely recommend!
Great food, service was exceptional! Highly recommend the sangria and Lobster Ravioli.
A must if you are in Boston. Classic North End dining. Low-key but romantic.
We had reservations at another restaurant in the city but Trattoria Il Panino smelled so delicious we canceled the original reservations and went here instead. We are SO glad we did. The veal ossobuco and the lasagna were out of this world. Our waiter was helpful, friendly, and gave great recommendations. We will return for sure!
Food was so good! Service was average. I will def go again
while our server was wonderful the staff at the front of the house was incredibly obnoxious. For example, when I asked for a wine list I was told to find it myself. When we presented ourselves for our reservation we were told that there was another part of the restaurant "around the corner" and that we should go there. The food was pretty good... not great. We ordered a red wine (Dolcetto), and was told that it was not available, but when we were unable to find another reasonably priced wine of any quality the Dolcetto miraculously appeared. I think that this place is what is sometimes referred to as a tourist trap. I blame myself for not doing better research before reserving a table.
All of the food was very good. The homemade pasta's were excellent. We had a large group of eight people and only two did not order a pasta dish. The six pasta dishes were all different from each other and each person ranked their pasta dish very high. The two regular entrées ordered were also very good. I ordered the veal saltimbocca and it was excellent. The wine list is extensive but the Italian wines are overpriced in my opinion. Service was good overall and the food value was good as well. We skipped trying their desert and decided instead to go around the corner to modern pastry for some cappuccino and cannolis.
I usually go to Trattoria Il Panino everytime I'm in the North End, and everytime I have a special occasion. Today, my mom was visiting me and I wanted to take her out to dinner at my favorite place! But we were so horribly disappointed. The waiter was rude and condescending and kept giving my mom and I trouble when it wasn't necessary. It was quite frankly embarrassing. The bus boys worked harder than him! I left pretty much in tears because I was so uncomfortable by the way he was treating us. All I wanted was a nice night out with my mom, and that didn't happen tonight.
Carbonara was delicious as was the gnocchi! Very cute venue, ate outside and it was lovely.
Excellent food as usual. Didn’t disappoint there.
We were seated at a small table at the head of the stairs down to the lower level. Noise from downstairs and the dining area combined to be quit loud and hard to hold a decent conversation without raised voices.
The other minor complaint was that the waiters who delivered food to the lower level were literally running through the crowd and I was bumped on the shoulder 3 times as they turned the corner to rush down the stairs. Mildly annoying.
I made a reservation weeks in advance-and despite that-we were seated in a dingy corner of the restaurant-near a fire exit. I expect if I make a reservation-that should allow for a decent seat.
We ordered our appetizers and they came in a timely fashion-which was great. But then 3 minutes in to our appetizers-our meals came. When we asked for them to be taken away until we were at least finished our appetizers-the behavior of the wait staff was reprehensible. They looked at us in disgust as if it were our issue-not theirs. That attitude carried through for the remaining time at your restaurant. After our meal was concluded-our bill was presented to us-we were never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee-we were simply given the bill. A simply horrible experience at this restaurant.
Their Lasagna is outstanding, and so is everything else!
My favorite restaurant in the North End. Charming staff and authentic Italian food.
Outstanding food, but service was chaotic and noise level was ridiculous.
I had the gnocchi entree & my fiancé had the veal milanese. Both were ah-mazing!!!! The cheese board appetizer was the best I have ever had!! Love love love this cute restaurant!!! I would highly recommend this place!!
Our family loves it here and we'd highlighly reccomend it to family and friends. Everytime we dine, we feel like we're always welcome, the staff is delightful and the food is amazing.
In Boston for a girls’ trip and made reservations for a Friday knowing the North End is always busy. We were seated straight away and immediately taken care of. Food was not only amazing but the portions were well above my expectations. Great wine selection to accompany the atmosphere and food.
So great. My favorite in the North End.
Trattoria Il Panino is AMAZING. Only place in the North End I’ll ever go to. Second time this month I’ve been & it was delicious, as always!
Be sure to ask for street level dining otherwise you might end up in the basement like a lot of North End restaurants. The food and service were terrific though! Would definitely try this again, but ask for first floor level.
Trattoria Il Panino became my daughter and her husband's favorite North End restaurant when they lived there. It is a consistently good restaurant and the food is always delicious. My friend and I went in advance of a concert at TD Garden so we were there early but had reservations. It is always busy! Limoncello Shrimp and Stuffed Zucchini flowers were both absolutely wonderful appetizers. Veal Milanese was huge and delicious. Chicken Parm was old school, heavy but great. This place deserves its reputation.
Food fantastic! Grew up in Italian family reminded me what we used to have when we would have dinners. Meatballs were spot on all around great...a little loud as full restaurant and everyone talking. Great experience overall!
Delicious food and drink, great wait staff. Hostess was a little over her head - probably needed a bit more training on time management and communication with the rest of the team. We were already seated , but soon after were asked to get up an wait a bit longer for a different table - then we were offered another table, but later were sat at another table. Had a reservation., arrived early, but we weren't seated until about 15 minutes after our reservation. We were seated in a tented area in between two buildings, which was interesting.
