American
First opened in 1946 as a 15 seat neighborhood diner, the Town Talk has a wealth of history and charm. Now as a modern American eatery, this neighborhood gem has expanded to include a 50 seat dining room. The current Town Talk Diner and Gastropub (still in it's iconic Minneapolis location) thrives with a "Farm to Table" American cuisine. Driven by the seasonality of our climate and the sustainability of local farmers, the ever changing menu of chefs Kacey White and Charles Stotts pays nightly tribute to both the bounty of the midwest, and the people who farm it.

We are a modern American eatery set in a historic Twin Cities diner with a menu that is clean, refined, and approachable. Our beer list is local, our wine list is well rounded, our cocktails are meticulously crafted. Our cuisine is delicious, local and sustainable.

For clarity, we are NOT a traditional diner. Rather a modern American eatery that happens to be set in an iconic Minneapolis diner space.

We went to the Town Talk for brunch. The bread pudding french toast was too tempting. All four of us had the same thing. It was great. The french press coffee was also a plus.

The service was great a professional wait staff with an appearance by the chef.

Yet another fantastic brunch experience at the Town Talk. We brought friends in from out of town and they raved about the brisket hash with tangy BBQ sauce. I deviated from my usual omelette and tried the pork Benedict, topped with velvety hollandaise. I may just have a new favorite. The cinnamon rolls are to-die-for-delicious, topped with the best cream cheese frosting I have ever had. Service by Sasha was smooth, friendly, and prompt. Town Talk consistently hits it out of the park every time we dine there.

RUN, don't walk, to this restaurant!

This is the second time that my husband and I have dined at Town Talk Diner. Our first meal was so perfect, we were hesitant to return because we didn't think it would be as good. How mistaken we were! Last night's meal was another delight.

We started with the Autumn Farm Salad - a delicious combination of spicy greens, cashews, apples, etc. I had the seven forbidden rice bowl which was true heaven - a unique assortment of local, farm-to-table vegetables. My husband had the spicy lobster pasta bowl that had the perfect blend of flavor and spices.

As if all this were not enough, the chef stopped at every table to ensure that all diners were happy. I chatted with him a bit about my plant based diet and he said he wished he had known a day or two in advance because he would have made me a special dessert!

We will not let as much time elapse between this past meal and our next one!

We were drawn in by Rick Nelson's "5 best things" weekly review. We ordered hand cut fries for starters, and these were delicious. We each had a popover, which were absolutely outstanding. Our dinners were small, yet expensive, and we left spending $80 and needed food later on . I'd go again for a glass of wine and a popover. Meal portions were too small for the price tag.

As always, the food, service, and ambiance at Town Talk was exceptional. We love how the menu changes and surprises us with new dishes while some favorites are always there. My husband will order any entree that includes the smoked collards! We had a chance to chat with the chef on our way out and thank her for the dinner. From cocktails to coffee, we had a wonderful evening.

The only thing odd about this restaurant is the name -- it's neither a diner (at least not during dinner hours) nor a gastropub. But we did have a great meal here. Several dishes (lobster pasta, a special involving sea scallops) were terrific. The service was efficient and effective. Just don't go expecting diner food or diner prices.

Outstanding! I was so impressed with the service and the food. I was even more impressed when we shared there was an food element in the plate that was not enjoyable and she said the chef was trying something and I’ll let him know that feedback. She wasn’t dismissive b b it instead accepted the feedback and said she pass it on to the chef. That aside, 99% of what we ate was INCREDIBLE!!!!! I fully plan on going back. So good. Great service. Fun ambiance. My kind of place!!!!!!!

This place is my favourite. Literally the best restaurant in the twin cities. The only place where when I eat the food I'm legitimately baffled as to how they made it. A must visit.

Brunch at Town Talk was the perfect way to reward our shoveling efforts after the overnight snow. The johnnycake with pimiento cheese and scrambled egg was to die for, and the BBQ brisket hash was delicious and had a nice zing of spice on the finish. We started with the homemade cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting, and ended with the cinnamon churros with chocolate sauce. Don't judge us on our sweets consumption -- the pastries are seriously too good to pass up. And we shouldn't have to choose. Service by Sasha was polished and friendly. Thanks for another memorable meal!

Love homemade food, thoughtful food and quality food
The restaurant is inviting although the bench was cold and I had to sit on my coat. Loved the old diner portion with counter service as well.
Menu was varied for brunch. French press coffee adds to the experience
Johnnycake is fabulous with the creamiest scrambled eggs on top - the best definition of sweet and savory.
Burger was more medium than medium rare but still good.
Service was polite and pleasant.
I’d highly recommend and might find a way to get back despite living about an hour away :)

We're continually blown away by Kasey and Chuck at Town Talk. Our most recent visit was on new years eve (our anniversary) where we enjoyed a fixed menu and great cocktails. Each course was amazing. The lobster bisque is the best soup I have EVER had. My husband loved the beef duet with fall-apart tenderloin and cheek. The warm popover with honey butter and personal french press coffee are a signature, and perfect way to end the meal. Town Talk is our go-to for any celebration, always reliable deliciousness and we adore their farm-to-table and locally sourced menu.

We love the Town Talk! We shared an amazing cinnamon roll to start our day off on the right foot, and it was so delicious that I wish we had each ordered one. My husband raved about the pork Benedict with hollandaise, and my omelette was expertly prepared and beautifully fluffy. Service is prompt, friendly, and gracious.

Loved the whole experience. First of all... the scallops were the best I have had in years. Perfectly browned and oh so tasty. Our server was delightful, efficient and friendly. The owner/chef stopped by as and talked with us. This is our new favorite place, even having to drive 30 miles to get there.

This was our first visit and there were four of us. I had intentionally booked this restaurant based on a recommendation from an article listing quiet restaurants in the Twin Cities. We had a corner table and were able to converse without needing to shout over the din. We had a leisurely dinner and did not feel rushed at all which, again, was appreciated. The food was outstanding, and we all commented that the french fries that came with the hamburger were the best we had ever eaten! The grouper, chicken, and butternut squash soup were amazing, too. Our server gave us enough attention to meet our needs, but did not hover. Highlight was when the chef (can't remember his name) came out and chatted with us. We will definitely be back, and have already recommended it to others.

Our dinner at Town Talk was very uneven, almost confusing. Primarily, the food is very good, which is what really matters. However, everything else was all over the place. The location is in a sketchy neighborhood, but we had no problems. On-street parking was available. We promptly got seated. The room was cold, both physically and in mood. They had oscillating heaters around the room to warm things up, but the one right next to us didn't seem to make much difference. Plus, that seemed cheap and maybe unsanitary. All seating is hard wood benches or chairs. Since the service is on the slow side it was two hours of discomfort seating wise. Our waitress was attentive, but it's obvious being in a service industry does not come naturally for her. Our interactions felt uncomfortable and stilted. There was only one bartender at 6:00 on a Saturday night, so drink orders took a long time. Our second martini came out maybe 30-45 minutes after it was ordered. The appetizers of gnocchi and fried green tomatoes were good, as were the popovers with honey butter. The chef delivered all our food and he had a great personality and made a positive impressions. When he brought out the pasta main course, $18, it was such a small portion he could tell we were shocked. About five minutes later he brought out another portion at no cost without us asking. That was professional and classy. The pasta tasted good. The osso buco was good and enough for two meals. The chicken was one breast with part of a wing for $23! It was juicy and delicious, but outrageously priced. There was cowboy caviar on the plate that only person at the table could handle due to the heat. There were no steaks or seafood on the menu. The desserts were delicious. Our final bill reflected a fine dining experience, not a gastro pub. With a few tweaks this would have been a great experience instead of a so-so one.
