A great spot for homemade pasta and authentic Italian food off the crowded North End streets. Highly recommend! Make sure you make a reservation!

Very nice service and good value for the North End location. Less expensive than Hanover Street. Nice ambiance.

Remarkably plain looking place inside and out. I was seated downstairs. A ceiling mounted flood light was shining right in my eyes where I was seated. The place was nearly empty as I arrived around 6:15 pm. My table was arranged so that I sat on the crack between 2 large bench cushions along the wall. 4 empty tables next to me along the wall didn’t have this obvious issue. Service was friendly and adequately attentive.

I had salad caprese ($15.99), lasagna for dinner ($23.99), cold somewhat rubbery bordering on stale focaccia bread (complimentary and served with a little olive oil for dipping), 1 carafe of house red ($24.00- actually a half carafe with about 2.5 glasses of average to below average red Italian [presumably] wine, cannoli desert ($7.95 - 3 small differently flavored cannolis. Total, without tip = $76.97 (including tax). Just me.

Eating such average Italian food in such a place with so little ambiance for so much money seems just wrong to me. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone when a similar amount of money would purchase better tasting food in a facility with much greater ambiance. I know because I have made it a point to dine in several of the best Italian restaurants in Boston during my visits to the city. At these prices I think Open Table should probably adjust the number of dollar signs on the posting to 3 instead of the 2 listed.

In summary, overpriced average food and below average ambiance; not worth the money.

Early dinner on a Friday night. Service was great, food was great. Really liked it. Ate downstairs in tight quarters. Decor could be a little better. At least use white lights instead of large bulb multicolor Christmas lights, and try to have some Italian artwork and not whatever was picked up at the Salvation Army.

The food is good, though a bit salty. Our server was overworked dealing with the very-busy downstairs dining area. They need more staff.

We had a great meal at Tony & Elaine’s before a concert. The decor was vintage and cozy. We enjoyed the garlic bread, house salad, meatballs, and pasta a la vodka, which were all delicious and filling. The only odd thing was that they didn’t have Coke or Pepsi for our teenagers, only root beer, sprite, orange soda, or ginger ale. Not a big deal. We would definitely return for another dinner.

We've been trying as many Italian restaurants in the North End as possible over the past year. I was really looking forward to Tony and Elaine's, based on the reviews and the photos. Visually it's a very "cute" restaurant where the red and white checked tablecloths and the lights strung about in cozy rooms. Loved that. However, the service was lackluster. Our waitperson was an order-taker and had no interest in being friendly. Also, the food was average at best. There were five in our party and we shared salads, which were no better than we would have made at home. The main courses were not very large or tasty. It was extremely middle-of-the-road Italian food. In my case, I had chicken parm, which was thin, overdone and dry, topped by a slab of cheese and unremarkable sauce. There are so many better options (and a few worse) in the North End. I won't be coming back to Tony and Elaine's.

Terrific atmosphere and amazingly delicious food! The only negative is that some meal portions are very small. My 16 year old son ordered penne a la vodka, and the portion was very small, maybe 1 cup of pasta. It was delicious, yet not filling and pricey for the portion size. The chicken parm and chicken broccoli ziti portions were plentiful. I highly recommend Tony however if you are really hungry, check on portion size before ordering.

This really had the potential to be great. Our party of 6 had 4 really great dishes and 2 just OK dishes. Unfortunately our waitress seemed annoyed about everything. She never brought one of the things we ordered. She didn't even offer us dessert options. Just the check. I think if she had been more friendly it would have been a different experience.

Food was OK, nothing spectacular. Fried Calamari were a bit soggy, the Cacio e Pepe was lack luster did not have much taste of anything. Pasta was al dente and fresh. Focaccia was delicious.

Excellent food and service! Only criticism is that we were seated very closely next to another table even though their were a number of other open tables. Didn't ask to move thinking those tables were already spoken for by reservations, which turned out to not be the case. Not a big deal. Will definitely return!

We were seated downstairs which was 10 feet to an open door to the outdoors, where the temperature was 47 degrees with windy conditions. When we asked if the door could be closed, the answer was, “No,” because waiters had to use it to serve food to the outside seating area. We asked to be moved upstairs, which had no open doors and was much warmer. We were refused in spite of us being only the second party to appear ( our reservation was for 5:25 pm and the restaurant just opened its doors) and only one party was seated upstairs leaving the remaining seats unoccupied.
We stayed in our downstairs seats and ordered our meals. The waiter never smiled and never said anything other than, “Do you want anything to drink and do you know what you want to order?” He brought a small basket of bread, followed by our meals. The house salad cami in a large bowl, but contained 3 small cherry tomatoes cut in half, six small slices of cucumber, onion strips and 95% white lettuce, giving the appearance of a large salad, which in reality a cheap presentation of what meant to impressive you with its size, but disappointed you once you began eating it and realized how little it contained other than non- green lettuce. My wife’s caprese salad contained burrata cheese, which is a soft cheese, however this was liquid, and not close to bring the typical soft texture of burrata cheese. Since this was my wife’s main course, she asked for another basket of bread, as she was having difficulty eating her caprese due to cheese. The waiter said we were only entitled to one serving of bread. I told him I would be willing to pay for another serving of bread, but he would not bring more bread.
My spaghetti and meatballs were average and edible, but nothing special and not worthy of their ad stating “The best meatballs in the north end.”Never once did the waiter return to our table once he served our meals to ask how our meals were or was there anything else he could get for us. 10/16 Saturday night reservations at 6:45pm. Seated at 8pm. At 9pm we asked if we could at least have bread. Food arrived at 9:45pm. Appetizer (garlic bread) arrived after we were done eating. Waiter nice but not concerned. Food decent but not memorable. Not worth the wait and poorly managed. Will not return.

Fast service though, and super cute location.

Servings were sufficient, no food leftover but left full.

It was okay. Good was decent. We were the first to be seated yet took forever to get our food. Three other tables came after us yet got their food and were done eating and gone before we got our food. It took us over 1 hour to get our food. The food was good, but not sure it’s worth the price or the wait.

This hidden gem had a delicious chicken parm! I must have walked by this restaurant 1,000 times and I never really paid any attention to it.

It is very small and so you will be very close to the table next to you.

The arancini was good but for me the delicious bread with oil, cheese, red pepper flakes was amazing! IT tasted fresh baked and I am sure it was!

I will go back for sure!

The food was good and I have nothing bad to say about it. I will say that when we arrived we were sat closest to the street where the air was the coldest. We had just sat when a table was being cleared that sat an identical number of people and no one was occupying at the moment. We were told that that specific table (there is no way to choose an outdoor table on opentable, so all tables are up for grabs) was being used and we could not have it. We left and the table remained empty. We were all very disappointed with that choice as it would have improved our experience tremendously as the air was quite cold and that table was closer to the heaters.
