Tomatina - Montgomery Village
Our family-friendly Italian restaurant is conveniently located in the Montgomery Village Shopping Center at the corner of Sonoma Avenue and Farmers Lane.
Tomatina is a classic Italian restaurant. As a sharp contrast to fine Italian dining, this is a place to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind with unpretentious pasta dishes served in hearty portions. Tomatina is designed to appeal to as many people as possible, which is why they carry a vegetarian, gluten-free and children,s menu in addition to their regular ones. Each month, Tomatina offers seasonal specials in addition to the normal menu. Staples of the menu that guests can always count on are dishes such as the mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich, ravioli di formaggi, mini-hand tossed pizzas and a chicken spaghettini with spinach, parmesan and an onion-tomato broth.
A friend’s Birthday
Celebrated my birthday, the salmon dish was very good.
Our food took over 40 minutes. People that came after us had theirs much faster. Our server was horrible. The food was so so. The kids pasta wasn’t cooked. Would never go here again.
I was so impressed by the pizza I can’t stop talking about it! Also, the bruschetta was excellent!
Food was great, service was quick and efficient. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Well considering that this is a chain restaurant, my wife’s and my expectations weren’t so high but we decided to still try this place out. Unfortunately our expectations may have been over estimated. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan and it was okay (kind of dry but not terrible). I ordered the salmon with rigatoni and the salmon was bland and definitely not fresh. The rigatoni was dry and the alfredo sauce was runny. We also had a caesar salad which was basic with a runny dressing. Then dessert came, the saving grace.....yea not so much. Dessert was a tiramisu unlike I have ever seen. It had so much coco powder caked all over the plate and tiramisu. The texture was mushy and bland... go figure. I am a dessert and sweet tooth guy but even I couldn’t eat this. We had one bite and called it a meal. The service was not the greatest actually it was pretty bad, however it did seem busy and they seemed short staffed. When we ordered a bottle of wine, I also ordered a soft drink but they never brought it out and I had to ask for it half way through our meal. Then they did not bring me out my correct order. So as my wife’s dinner was at our table, mine was just being cooked. My wife wanted to wait for me to get my food but I did not want her food to get cold. They finally brought my food out 15 minutes later and like I said earlier it was very bland and I was disappointed. They never even asked how our meal was or how everything was tasting, not until they brought the check. The only thing about this meal that didn’t disappoint was that they were offering 50% off bottles of Vino (wine). I would say if you are looking to have a couple glasses of wine and no food then this place might be worth a visit other than that I would never recommend place to anyone. One star at best.
The food was fine. But dining in the parking lot was not awesome (not the restaurant's fault, of course). We had to wait in a long line of people waiting to pick up to-go food to get a table even though we had a reservation. Once we got to the host, he told us to just go find our own table. Wait staff seemed not happy to be there at all. Everything was a challenge. The menu and the three course special was not explained correctly. It took a long time to both order and get food. You couln't get a glass of water or bread or any drink unless you hunted someone down. No one seemed happy there were eat-in customers. What was supposed to be a quick meal went an hour and minutes. Definitely a thumbs down experience.
In the time of Covid they did an excellent job accommodating us outside in the parking lot. Great food and great service. Will go again.
Our dinner at Tomatina was lovely. The outdoor seating along the side of the building offered shade, a fresh breeze and a nice barrier to the street noise. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The garlic knots were so good - I had to take the extra olive oil home to enjoy with more bread! During a very stressful time, that meal and the folks who prepared and served it offered us a wonderful bit of normal and we are truly grateful!
Made a reservation and they said we didn’t have one. I had proof. Service was terrible. Food was just ok. The best thing was the garlic bread appitizer. Won’t be back anytime soon!
The set up for the seating was well done. Had a nice table outside. Food was excellent.
It is a great place for relaxing lunch; the service is good and the food is excellent.
I received a post card detailing their promotional deals. So we went for $3 wine and beer after 4 pm on Monday deal. They charged us $4 and $4.25 for them and the waitress could no make them change right. We were to receive 100 points upon dining. They did not give it to us stating it disqualify it without the reason given. They do not follow through with their deals they advertise. So watch out.
There were a couple of hiccups but for the most part, it was a very pleasant lunch.
Great family restaurant. We had great service from Gene and our food was delicious.
First time dining at Tomatina, tried their Restaurant Week deal. Started w/Mixta salad, which was mixed greens, Gorgonzola, candied walnuts, dried cranberries tossed w/honey mustard vinaigrette. Salad was nice and lightly dressed. Baked Penne w/Bolognese sauce was absent of tomato sauce so kinda dry. The melted mozzerella cheese on top of the pasta was good. The Tiramisu was good. If I return, I'd try the pizza.
Our food was cold, our appetizer had a piece of hair in it and the waitress looked annoyed when we asked if that was hair. When she brought over a "new" dish she didn't even apologize.
We asked what was on the menu for restaurant week and she rushed through it like she had other customers ... we were the only ones there at the time.
I used to enjoy going here, at least twice a month. Now I'm no longer a customer.
This was my first time going to Tomatina. The food was awesome, the portions were huge and the service was great. I will definitely be going back.
This was my first time here. My friends and I loved your food!
Great food and great service!
Had the chicken Parmesan. Chicken was fresh and the sauce was excellent, tasted like they just made it! The service was a little too good, we had 5 different people check to see if everything was okay, or did we need anything.
We love coming here. Nice relaxing place for my family to hang out and enjoy good company and great food!
Winter Pasta was terrible. Never going back to that place. Hadn’t been there in 4-5 months. Now I remember why.
wonderful evening with my love for impromptu date night. Good food , delightful service. Will return
We enjoyed our family dinner. The food was great,
And the service was excellent!
The food was not great for the price
Christmas Eve meal is not the easiest time to serve customers but all the staff was trying very hard - especially the receptionist/maitre d. All the food was good to very good - nothing outstanding. Healthy serving of anchovies on Caesar salad was appreciated. Ordered an old-fashion and was served a Manhattan but at Happy Hour prices on Christmas Eve who could complain.
Great food, service and ambiance. I would recommend to friends and family.
Great Italian! Service excellent! Very casual atmosphere.
Overall great experience. The food was fantastic and it's a great place for families with kids. Very happy
Very nice evenings at Tomatinas
The wait for our table was a bit long, with very little indoor waiting space. The night we were there was very busy (plus things were crazy in our community due to the Kincaid Fire). Once we got our seat, drinks were ordered right away, and everything on the menu was tempting. My son ordered a margarita pizza, I ordered the Chicken Rigatoni, my friend had the chicken Marsala and her daughter had something off the children’s menu. All the food arrived together, nice and hot! Portions were big and delicious. This was my first visit, and we would definitely return.
Very poor service without apology. The waiter could care less. Will not visit again.
My wife felt the pasta with her salmon did not have enough sauce on it and the broccoli was dry. I thought my chicken marsala was very good. Service was very attentive.
Inattentive is the most charitable way to describe the service (Ignored is more the way my wife and her friends would say it.). We were a party of 4 seated at a table that could probably seat two (with a pizza in the center). We were grudgingly supplied a second two-top to accommodate the entire party after our wait person said that a bigger table was being held for a larger party. (Other tables were open, too.)
Water came and drink orders were taken. An iced tea came out.
Twenty minutes in, nothing more... no food order taken, no cocktails delivered, no "sorry about the wait".
At that point, there was no interest in seeing what the food was like. We left $4 for the item delivered.
That larger party never showed while we were there.
Birthday. Staying at the flamingo. 4 adults, 2 kids. We walked in with no reservation about 6:20 on a Sunday night. The hostess said she had no tables and would be an hour wait. Then said, wait, There was a cancellation. We could have that table but would have to vacate it in an hour. No thanks. So we left. It was 6:35 and decided to checked Open table. We reserved a table for 6:45. Strange! We walked back in with our confirmed reservation but she would not honor it. Said open table makes mistakes. We were about to walk out and she said there’s a table by the kitchen if we wanted it. Made it sound like a crappy table but we took it because everyone was hungry and we had a 4 & 7 year old. Walking back, half the tables were empty. I ordered the meat pizza and asked for lite crushed garlic. When I got it, it looked like flat bread, it wasn’t round, was way under cooked and doughy. There was so many large chunks of garlic on it, it was inedible.
I noticed, The hostess sat a couple in the alcove across from us and then I noticed they asked to be seated in the main dining room. Then She put 4 other people at the same small table. Cramped, they moved two tables together. The hostess came over and said something to them. They had their drinks so I assumed they had ordered. All of a sudden, the 4 of them were scrambling around for cash. Next thing I knew, there was some money on the table and the 4 people left. The waiter came out and then got our waiter in the confusion. They did not know what caused them to abruptly leave. So we said, I think that hostess didn’t like them moving the tables together, my guess because she said something to cause them to leave. Btw, our waiter couldn’t have been more accommodating. He dumped my flatbread/pizza and didn’t charge. Not a good experience.
We took my sister for her birthday and none of us had been there before. We were so pleased with our decision and will be going back.
My wife and I enjoy coming here once or twice a month. I am a creature of habit and almost always get a calzone, but they are absolutely delicious regardless of the topping mix I get.
We had multiple waiters/waitresses ask if they could get us a high chair for our baby and they helped expedite our departure when the baby started getting fussy :)
The quality of the food was very good and the portion size it very large. My only suggestion would be to allow more time between courses. We started with calamari fritte and our salads arrived before we were even one half finished. We received our entre a short time after the salad arrived. This resulted in all three courses on the table at one time.
