Tomalo is a worldly Mexican inspired restaurant, created by UrbanSpace Hospitality, that draws influences from various regions of Mexico and beyond. Tomalo anchors the ground level of the 44 East Ave. Residences, the skyscraper on the banks of Lady Bird Lake where East Ave meets Rainey St. We source and utilize local ingredients and a focus on community.

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).

We have a beautiful mezzanine lounge on the second floor of our restaurant. There is also a semi private dining room. The Private Dining Room has can accommodate up to 16 people very comfortably. Full A/V hookups. The top floor also has a lavish agave bar with 100+ various tequilas and mezcal as well as a full bar. Perfect for any occasion.

We last minute booked this restaurant for a group at 8:45pm. We arrived and they told us we had to order food and all our drinks by 8:55pm as the kitchen and bar shut at 9pm…. Not a great start. Waitress got our order wrong and then forgot a round of our drinks. We had someone in our group who was allergic (mildly) to nuts. She didn’t ask if there were any allergies and nothing on the menu stated any nuts. Ordered the beef tacos and thought nothing of it. Food came quickly and all the food was great (burger was 10/10) but the beef tacos came, our friend ate one and his throat started to squeeze up… we asked the staff if there was any nuts in the tacos, they said no BUT 2 minutes later they came back and said there are pecans in the chilli oil (why they put pecans in a chilli oil I don’t know). They did offer to change the dish for him but didn’t offer an apology. At the end of the meal - the check came, still no apologies, and they still charged him for the one taco he ate before realizing he was having an allergic reaction… service really bad, food really good and surprising reaction to a nut allergy

Food was good, unfortunately we did not feel like the service was equal to the food. For the amount of patrons in the restaurant at the time, our experience left us lacking. Would recommend for the food, but not the experience.

Had reservations for Saturday at 8:15pm. While on the way, received a phone call to confirm coming and to notify that some menu items were out. Ok, no problem. However once arrived and seated, attempted to order and pretty much nothing was available on the menu. The server proceeded to explain how it was due to a large party the day prior and they ran out of a lot of food. This was confusing because was there not a store available to restock seeing as though the restaurant doesn’t open until noon. The staff wasn’t very apologetic, just a lot of excuses. Overall, a waste of time and it was disappointing.

Tomalo is sooooo good!! Their taco tuesday deals are hard to beat. Excellent quality and flavor for a great price. Highly recommend. The carnitas taco and queso fundido are both incredible

From Clinton the Maitre D' to Jorge at the Bar to Chance at our table, everyone was kind, knowledgable and attentive. Taco Tuesday offers great flavors at a great value!
