Tomalo is a worldly Mexican inspired restaurant, created by UrbanSpace Hospitality, that draws influences from various regions of Mexico and beyond. Tomalo anchors the ground level of the 44 East Ave. Residences, the skyscraper on the banks of Lady Bird Lake where East Ave meets Rainey St. We source and utilize local ingredients and a focus on community.

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).

We have a beautiful mezzanine lounge on the second floor of our restaurant. There is also a semi private dining room. The Private Dining Room has can accommodate up to 16 people very comfortably. Full A/V hookups. The top floor also has a lavish agave bar with 100+ various tequilas and mezcal as well as a full bar. Perfect for any occasion.

I visited yesterday, and while the service was excellent, the food left room for improvement. The queso fundido with chorizo was disappointing—it tasted more like nacho cheese with ground beef than a true queso fundido. On the positive side, the bluefin tuna was fresh and delicious. However, the quesadilla carnitas should really be renamed “cilantro quesadillas” due to the overwhelming amount of cilantro, which completely overpowered the other flavors. Although the staff kindly offered to remake the quesadilla, I was surprised to be charged for both, which didn’t feel like the best approach to customer service. Ñ

Placed a reservation to the restaurant for my Bach party and the day of I was advised that the restaurant was actually closed for good. Had to make something up for my party of 10 last minute.

It all started when we walked in the front door. The host greeted us and said it would be a few minutes for our table, no problem. This being our first time there I wanted to check the place out while we waited. I started to walk up the stairs to see the outdoor patio they have to see if we might want to sit up there. The host ran over and yelled at me to not go up there....ok? We then went to the bar to order a drink while we waited. My drink wasn't made correctly so they had to remake it but they were not happy about it. Once to our table the waitress was nice but couldn't make eye contact and just seemed awkward speaking with us. We ordered a bunch of different dishes and they started coming out in the wrong order. Not that big of a deal but not ideal. We had the shrimp ceviche and it was so bad we couldn't take a second bite, very fishy tasting. My wife ordered a second beer during our meal and we waited over 20 min and it still hadn't arrived. We hadn't seen our waitress in that amount of time. Since we were pretty much done we just asked for the check. The highlight of the meal was the El Pastor quesadilla, but at $26 it's expensive for what you get. Also, the people they have serving water are great. Never had to worry about my water glass being empty. Needless to say my wife and I will not go back. Too many great restaurant's with better food and better service. I don't mind expensive meals but I would expect the food and service to be much, much better.

What a treat! The food was fantastic and the suggestion to go family style and share different dishes by our waitress Ashley was a good one! We tried several dishes and the resounding (unsuspecting) favorite was the sweet potato with labaneh. It was incredible. Also loved all that we tried from the chicken to the octopus. Everything (including the cocktails) was delicious and we will definitely be back.

Very bad service but amazing food. We had a party of 12 at 6:30pm and showed up for happy hour drinks and apps and were all very relaxed and were immediately treated pretty plain and mean. Our server didn’t smile once or seem to like anything we said. We put up a $1400 check with 22% tip and could barely get her to fill our water jugs or check on us. Manager (not called but seen) was also very elusive. Strange experience tbh

I really liked Bacalar! The service was particularly good; our waitress was attentive and sweet. The host was very friendly and kind on arriving as well. The food was delicious, the portion sizes a bit small but I still really enjoyed what I had. The drinks were a winner, and the labneh ice cream I had for dessert was SUPER unique and I loved it! Overall because of the price to value ratio I don't plan to eat a meal here again soon but I would gladly go for drinks and dessert (specifically that gorgeous labneh and honey ice cream) anytime!!!!

Una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en comida yucateca, los platillos de sabor insuperable, sobre todo los de cordero, el lugar es hermoso y muy bien atendido. Los precios me parecieron muy altos para lo que recibes, aún así por el sabor de la comida regresaré.

Dinner at Bacalar was absolutely amazing! The ambiance and decor is stunning and the food was absolutely delicious. The Sikil Pak is a must, the red snapper ceviche was one of my favorite bites of the evening. We also had the cochinita Pibil, the 32 oz ribeye, pork belly, and the scallop and bluefin crudo. Food was 10/10, the service and hospitality even better. A very memorable meal. Highly recommend. We had such a good time no one remember to take photos.
