"See and be seen" place but the food is the star. Peope line up for breakfast here for a reason and the waits on weekends can be very long. But you can spend the time people watching--it's popular with local celebs.
Somebody screwed up, either open table or toast. We arrived for a reservation and found them closed! I feel somebody should’ve called us and notified us that they were not open! Whose responsibility was it? Toast or open table. Many times when you make a reservation with OpenTable you don’t go into the restaurants website so you are assuming that the reservation is made and the restaurant is open. We were very disappointed and disgusted with with the way this was handled!
Great food, great atmosphere
Butternut soup was consistency of pudding. Wait staff was very nonchalant and very noisy
Interesting menu with some nice options, good spot for lunch. Avacado toast is great as it tomato soup with grilled cheese. Nice salads. Reasonably priced.
Miss ratatouille dish that used to be on the menu. That was one of best things I’ve had there. Hope they roll bring it back. Also more healthy, lower calorie options would be nice.
I’ve eaten here before for brunch and it was great, but the dinner menu is very limited and their “special” when I ate there with my husband on a Friday night (crab cakes over greens) was poor and a waste of money. Value was just not there - if you are going to put crab cakes on a menu, do them right! We left feeling hungry because neither of us wanted to finish the dish. Recommend this place focus on brunch/lunch and not try to please a discerning dinner crowd. It might work elsewhere, but not Birmingham. And not for the prices they charge. All that said, service was great and decor is fun. But the place was empty on a Friday night - perhaps another sign we made a bad choice in restaurant for date night.
The food isn't that great but the ambiance and location is worth the higher prices for breakfast. I had the Plain Jane French Toast. It was ok.
This is our favorite place to catch breakfast when we’re in town from Dallas. Maya was AWESOME, very attentive and friendly. I always get the beet omelette but I got the spicy California this time. Sooo good! Cinnamon challah toast, mimosas, bloody marys... all awesome!
If you’re looking for a unique brunch place. Try Toast
People who go for dinner on sundays should be aware that the dinner menu is the BREAKFAST menu. Very disappointing as there was no way to know that from their web site.
I’ve been to Toast in the past and really enjoyed it. I was disappointed that the Sunday dinner menu is still just brunch - too restrictive. Atmosphere also didn’t feel as special / cozy...felt more like the kind of place where you’d work off a hangover.
Marco provided wonderful, friendly and prompt service. Food was delicious with good portions. Music was too loud. We could not hear each other at the table.
Always love coming here! Definitely recommend the Chicken and Waffles Benny with Grits! I wish there was more space for seats because I was there with my family and our seats kept getting hit from others trying to get in their seats.
The food was good but service was slow even though the restaurant was not crowded. Kept looking for waitress. Didn't have our drink choices (muscato wine, frozen daiquiris). Ambiance was more casual than expected, compared to website photos.
The server was fantastic. The food was wonderful. No regrets! I'll definitely be coming back.
Very good service. Generous portions. Accommodating for small changes in offered menu items.
Excellent omelette. Enjoyed the option of the all-day brunch on Sunday. The service was somewhat slow despite it being not very busy. Thankfully the food was still top notch! Best breakfast place there is, hands down!
Toast is probably best for breakfast and lunch. They have an eclectic menu of comfort foods. I wish there were more dinner entrees. It's a fun, funky place.
I had and l
oved the Brussels sprout & salmon salad.
Interesting menu, good food, good service in a cute location. Always enjoy eating there.
Nice and the food was good
Loved the atmosphere and the food, would definitely recommend
It was very good and we will be back!
Birthday celebration. As always food and service was outstanding
Enjoyed a great family brunch.
Patio service was slow
Really enjoyed the ambiance of this quaint restaurant. Great for out of towners that want to see the best of Birmingham! Glad we decided to go there for breakfast.
Wish they still had their old menu. Waiter was pretty absent and seemed irritated. Overall feel like things have gone downhill. Wasn’t very busy but restaurant a few doors down was packed so may just try that one next time. If you want breakfast for dinner you may like this place.
What I love about Toast is that you can sit and enjoy fabulous food without feeling rushed. I arrived half an hour early to meet friends, and the waitress kept me well supplied with iced tea while I was waiting. We had a leisurely brunch (absolutely scrumptious food for all four of us) and sat talking for a good hour afterward. During that time she kept checking on whether we needed more drinks but never rushed us.
Toast has a creative, well thought out menu with something for everyone. The food is great quality and always delicious. The lemon poppyseed waffles with blueberry lavender compote was to die for. Equally wonderful were the various Bennies. I only wish that I lived closer and could visit more often!
Perfect come home from
Travel work date brunch.
The silverware was disgustingly dirty. And when new sets were given to us, the replacements were equally gross. The menu was very disappointing and not what was displayed online. One burger had to be sent back because it was very well done. Not happy, and will never go back.
6 people very happy with each of their meals and a very nice waitress
Excellent server. Good food.
Good food and service. We come here often and enjoy the food and service.
The Chicken & Waffle is to die for! Wow, it’s delicious. The Brussels Sprouts for appetizer is just as good. They have Happy Hour Tuesday to Thursday from 3pm-9pm. Half off drinks and appetizers. Great place. Definitely going back soon.
Service was slow and a few mistakes were made. 2 of the meals were undercooked. They have been better in the past.
Everyone in our party really enjoyed their food, and the service was outstanding
Visited with out-of-town friends. First time for all of us. I had tomato soup --very good. Friends had French onion soup(she loved it) and tomato soup + grilled cheese--very good. Very cute inside!
We were seated in a room around the corner from the entrance, so it was nice and fairly quiet. The room at the main entrance was quite lively and would have been harder to have a conversation. The food was great - we chose delicious customized omelets!
Food was great but took longer than usual to get; others seated after us had their food before we did.
