My wife and I have been dining at Tinys for years. It has become a Houston institution and its always fantastic.
Blood orange cocktail and beet, pear and burrata salad were fantastic. Normally love the lamb burger - this time it was over cooked and dry. Cheesecake was out of this world. Service was friendly, helpful and allowed you to enjoy the meal and conversation.
I had dinner on Tiny B. Last Saturday Oct 20, 20-8. I initially sat at the bar. The barman (skinny Hispanic guy - brown on skin color) was rude and confrontational with me. He asked me “are you ok???” in a confrontational tone in front of all the people seated at the bar. Definitely embarrassing for a place like Tiny, which I believe is a decent place.
My wife said he was looking at her too much and she felt uncomfortable.
He was later serving wine from the bottle I purchased even when I told him not to do so. Pretty disappointing experience.
We have dined here several times and it has always been excellent. Introduced it to our friends on this visit and they will be back too!
Tony’s is consistently terrific. The food, service and ambience are fantastic. One of our favorite spots.
I went for dinner and everything was delish except the lamb burger. The lamb was topped with goat cheese, which didn’t seem to go with each other. They were two totally different flavors that (together) taste awful. The desserts and everything else was delicious. I swear to you, just get the cookie. ITS AMAZING. Ambiance was great, you got to walk around and look at the plants. Customer service was 10/10. We felt welcome, respected, and even gave us recommendations based on our dietary restrictions.
Tiny Boxwoods is a gem. I took my girlfriend there for a late dinner, and it was nothing short of sublime. We sat outside by candlelight and enjoyed every moment. It's expensive, but worth the money.
This was my first time hear but I had heard wonderful things about the restaurant. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent as was the service. I can't wait for the weather to get cooler to enjoy their outdoor area. I will be back.
We love this restaurant, but were disappointed in the very slow service this time.
Food was outstanding!
Good Neighborhood Spot
We have eaten here several times and always enjoyed the meal, service and ambiance. We had reservations that we were on time for, but were told that we would have a 15 to 20 minute wait. We were the only patrons waiting. We went inside and surveyed the situation, and determined that the wait would be much longer than that. Most of the tables had been just seated or were waiting on their meals. I believe that the hostesses had sat a number of walk in parties to the detriment of reservations. Some retraining is needed.
The manager interceded, and helped us to take a small table and move it to accommodate our needs.
Once we had a table, the wait service and food were excellent as usual.
My favorite place for dinner!
25th wedding anniversary - we told them when booking and they didn’t even acknowledge it. Only disappointing thing about the night.
Although the food and atmosphere were very good, the service we experienced was not. We had a 7 o'clock reservation and were not seated until 7:45 because other diners "were not leaving their tables." Nor were we offered any drinks during our long wait. When we went to the bar, we had to compete with waiters to get our drinks. Service during dinner was okay until the waiter spilled a pizza in one of our guest's lap. She had to wait another 15 minutes for her dinner while we ate. Worse, we were not comped the pizza! Probably would not go back, at least not for dinner.
Came out to celebrate my birthday with my fiance, made a reservation well in advance but probably could have been able to walk-in and be seated without a long wait compared to brunch lines. Friday night dinner, outdoor seating, food was delicious and ambiance was perfect. Our server was delightful and she was so helpful in helping us pick out our dishes.
I always love Tiny Boxwoods. Lovely Wednesday evening. Nice not to have the crowd that is expected on the weekends. We sat outside facing the garden shop. The waitress was very attentive, friendly and didn’t fault. I only marked her down a notch because she was such a high energy, fast talking personality it deterred from the more relaxed week night, less crowd and all.
They were out of almost everything on the menu.
Food is outstanding. Really a pleasant surprise. Noise level was a bit high, but that seems to the reality these days. Definitely worth a look.
There's no vegetarian option except for their overpriced pizza. I used to love going to this place but the prices have increased. The tuna crudo had more watermelon than tuna... The cheese board has three very small pieces of cheeses. Also, made a reservation and still had to wait to get our table.
I had a much better experience this time over the last time I was here. I think having good service makes all of the difference. I will be back.
Truthfully we love this restaurant but tonight worst service ever. Not his fault. They spread the waiters and waitresses so thin they just can’t do it all
They were eager to let us go, it's great for an early meal
We had an outstanding meal. As always the ambiance was great; but the food this time was exceptional. The black and blue filet melted in my mouth, the fruit and tomatoes salad was wonderful and the fish special was excellent. I had an excellent Rose with my appetizer. In addition to a great meal; our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable.
The food preparation was impeccable. The outdoor dinning ambience was wonderful. Will go back again.
It might have been hot out, but with the fans on i was able to enjoy a table outside and would recommend the same if you can take the heat as the view over the garden is lovely. The grilled artichokes were a nice light starter and the Espresso steak was cooked as ordered with plenty of flavour but could have done with a lighter side for me. The homemade cookie and ice cream were a nice refreshing way to end the meal. The wine list has something for everyone and my Sancerre was very pleasent on a warm evening. Will be certain to head back and try more of the menu.
The food was amazing! Our service was too notch and I will definitely be coming back. My family and I came for dinner, and since we had such a great experience, we will be coming back to try out the breakfast, brunch, and lunch.
Entertaining out-of-town guests...great service, excellent food, and lovely surroundings
A little hidden, but a gem in the garden. Nice atmosphere for dinner. Wait staff was amazing. Food was awesome as usual. Would definitely recommend.
Great atmosphere for a great first date. Food was delicious.
This was our last meal before heading to the hospital for a scheduled deliver of our first child. The staff was fantastic. Food amazing. Service from Nathan was great. This is one of the best restaurants in Houston.
Ambiance and service were good but food was horrible
The tuna crudo was really over salted watermelon crudo and filet mignon with risotto came with an exceedingly sweet sauce. Not sure why one would think that combo would taste good. The risotto was more like porridge
Won’t be back for dinner anytime soon☹️
Have been here several times and food has always been very good. HOWEVER, this last visit two of us ordered the grouper entree. BOTH arrived at the table very, very raw. Both were sent back and cooked properly for round two. I am not one to send food back but this was almost lose your appetite gross and it took awhile to get our food back out. By then, we were pretty much over eating. Honestly, the manager made it more unappetizing. She brought our recooked food and never addressed or apologized for the mishap. This left us with the impression that "You have a lot of nerve sending your food back".......Well it was RAW. I will go back it's just going to be awhile for this memory to fade..... shame.
Incredible food. Great menu. Service was excellent.
Continually the best hidden gem in H-Town.
This was my first time at Tiny Boxwoods. I have been to Tiny's No. 5 for lunch once before and really enjoyed it. When you walk in it looks really neat...kind of like a little oasis tucked away behind all of these vines and greenery. We asked to be seated inside, but when we got in there, there was an enormous table full of multiple families with children running around just wild. So we looked at the seating hostess and were like maybe outside instead? Then we were seated in the very corner of the patio by the service door and next to the loudest box fan in the entire world. The thing was clunking the entire night. It is just unfortunate because the place is beautiful and I feel like literally any other table would have been great (outside of the screaming running children issue).
The service was very slow. The guy was nice, but it took a long time to even have our order taken. Drinks were slow at the beginning, food was slow all night. When the food made it to our table, the pizza was cold (probably because it had been sitting out so long to be taken to the table) and the ice cream on our dessert was literally like ice cream soup after it had melted. We ordered a bottle of wine mid meal and it also took quite some time to come out to us. We could see it sitting up on the bar ready to be delivered to the table (and getting warm). I almost just got up and got it and said "this is for us".
Then at the end of the night the wifi was out and they could not run my credit card. So they came to the table to ask if I had cash. I don't know about you, but no I don't normally carry $200 cash on me to cover the bill and tip. So the only option I was given was for them to write down my credit card information to run the bill at a later time. I was uncomfortable with it, but I didn't have another option.
It just stinks because this place was an "almost". With a different server and a different table, we might have had a totally different experience.
We had been here previously 2 weeks before and everything was excellent. This time the food was superb but the service was lacking. He kept saying they were busy but the restaurant was half full. It probably took 30 minutes to get our first drinks and orders were then taken by a busboy who was then interrupted by our waiter and everything had to be repeated. They were all out of the ribeye which was disappointing to 2 who planned to order it. We were sat at 8:20 and dinner lasted 2 hours. My 2nd drink probably took 20 minutes to bring to me but when he remembered it was already sitting on the bar waiting to be delivered. Also, we asked to sit outside and told no tables were available for 45 minutes yet the large outdoor area was made to have separate tables from the long one when we arrived and they had put a party of 4 there, would have appreciated that as we had asked and it was freezing and loud inside.
The service was bad. Our reservations were late and they had run out of several items on the menu.
The food, ambiance and drinks were divine. I Recommend going just before sunset so that you can sit outside and enjoy the late afternoon weather. I must admit I was worried about the mosquitoes but behind the hostess counter they keep citronella candles and Off spray if you ask them.
I highly recommend the tartare for a refreshing afternoon snack along with the summer smash cocktail.
Food was excellent, but has a very small menu. Service was good, but not great. Took too long to order our entrees. I did not find it a good value. I have been to similar or better restaurants and paid much less. $140 for 2 appetizers, pizza, one entree, and two cocktails.
I would just go for a special occasion. The setting is gorgeous.
Whilst it was a great idea to book dinner / movie combo the experience wasn’t great. Restaurant descended into chaos with 100 + people camped out on the lawn. Kitchen couldn’t keep up, food was cold, being able to either see or hear the movie was impossible and table in front of us migrated from a 4 person to a 7 person table merging with our privacy. Possibly our worst experience at tiny box woods
