    My wife and I found Thyme on a "best of Palo Alto" list and were not disappointed. We arrived at 6pm and were welcomed and seated immediately. The restaurant is small with an intimate friendly feel - the server and chef are brother and sister; the kitchen is visible from the dining area and there is an easy, comfortable ambience - almost like having dinner at a friend's house. We like places where we can feel a connection to the folks who work there - and this was immediately our impression of Thyme. It appears not to have been discovered (yet) - quiet and intimate; easy to get a seating (though we made a reservation), but later in the evening it began to fill up. The food was exquisite - only a few options as four appetizers and four entrees were on offer - the menu changes frequently and reflects what is available locally (they don't have a freezer). Everything was cooked to perfection and flavored with lovely light sauces. My wife's salmon was tender and flaky over a bed of lentils and perfectly cooked; my dinner of sausages on a bed of cabbage and onions flavored with bacon was refreshingly spicy and redolent of the flavors of the ingredients. For this visit though the appetizers were the real winners. Crab cake for her; mushroom toast for me. We could easily have made a meal of those plus the other two (one of which was tiger prawns) as portions are large - so there was plenty to take home from an appetizer and an entree each. The appetizers each came with some fresh greens on the side, lightly dressed - which explained the initially puzzling lack of salad offerings. One thing to be aware of; which our server was quick to make clear to us before we ordered - the food is prepared and cooked to order so expect to spend a couple of hours over dinner. We were glad we did and will definitely be back!

    Thyme is a small restaurant and has a limited number of tables. It also has a limited menu by today's standards (small food storage in back it seems). They focus on local, freshly purchased food, so the menu changes as availability does. The food is interesting, usually tasty. The wine list is modest; there is no draft beer. Surprisingly, for an expensive restaurant, after finishing your first course your dirty knife and fork are laid on the table to be used again! This is rather shocking in this area of the dining world. So easily corrected. Would return again to support this focus on locally sourced, carefully cooked. Service was pleasant and friendly and attentive.

    Our experience at Thyme really could be split right down the middle between food and service - the first was good the second was the opposite. The local ingredients and variable, creative menu were the original allure and lived up to expectations (and as foodies, we appreciate that). However, for a meal to be a complete experience, the service has to be at least, well, serviceable. While well intended, it was not. Our server was polite, but clearly inexperienced. When we ordered a bottle of wine for the table, he seemed perplexed as to what to do - I guess most people order by the glass? When he returned, he did not show us the bottle, offer the cork, just proceeded to pour the entire bottle into our four glasses. But that was certainly forgiveable. What was not, was that our simple meal (a delightful interpretation of bangers and mash) did not arrive for over an hour - and we were one of only 5 tables that evening. The wait staff was nowhere to be found during this time (we had to flag them for more water and to inquire on our meals), and we had only a small plate of bread to tide us over (4 pieces of sourdough) that was never refilled. When the maitre came out as our dishes were being served, we asked if they were a bit understaffed in the kitchen. The reply was no, they just hadn't prepared for walkins, and they start every meal at the point of ordering. Okaaaay - but the place was only 1/3 full, and bangers and mash don't take 70 mins to prepare in any kitchen I know of. I sincerely hope they can work this out, the entire staff seemed friendly and amenable. However in the mean time we will likely try something new where the balance between food and service is not so dramatically disparate.

    Definitely a must try. Very good, fresh, skillfully prepared dishes. We shared the mushroom toast appetizer, then we enjoyed swapping the salmon and the lamb chops. Both perfectly cooked and nicely presented. Only negative is that the front of house staff lacked warmth, and since we knew we were in for a bit of a wait, a little charm would have gone a long way.

    It feels like home in many aspects! Everything looks like made from scratch with freshly selected excellent ingredients. We loved it!

    I loved coming back to Thyme. The food was exceptional, and the service excellent. The chef came personally to make some recommendations. Everything was delicious.

    I took two friends to this restaurant, having noticed it in the neighborhood and having seen a good review of it online. I was so pleased with the experience that the three of us had that evening! We arrived early, the first ones in the place, and the chef came out to greet us with a big smile and a welcome. From there on, we were served a lovely meal and felt very well treated. Every dish we tried (we shared it all) was delicious, and obviously prepared with great attention to detail. I recommend this small, charming restaurant.

    Excellent food; charming local. Best salmon I've ever eaten. Chef and restaurateur, Winston was so warm and personable. It is worth the special trip.

    Delicious food, but you will have to be patient...it takes a while to be prepared, but totally worth the wait! You will want to come back, guaranteed!
