We enjoyed our meal but the early lunch-time booking meant we were the only people in the pub restaurant eating for most of the time. Nonetheless the baked camembert, king prawns and steak and kidney pudding were all good. We have used this restaurant previously but on this occasion we felt the Volunteer was only just getting back in to the swing of things after the various Covid lockdown challenges. In our recollection the menu choices were significantly reduced from previous occasions. However, their range of draught beers is still impressive for a small village pub.

Pretty pub in gorgeous area, we found it rather expensive for pub food but having said that it was decent food and the staff were friendly.

Did not appreciate having my card held behind the bar for the duration of the visit. Never happened before and was uncomfortable with the tactic. Spoke to the waitress who said it was normal practice which was not true on the last three visits to the Volunteer, otherwise very happy.

Great lunch mid cycle from Guildford to Peaslake. Lovely quiet garden. Fish and chips were good and vegarian burger proclaimed as “best ever”. Nice crumble for pud.

This is our local and we often drop down for a swift pint. This was the first time we had a Sunday lunch there and it was great. Fresh vegetables oodles of gravy top notch meat and attentive service. We will definitely be going back.

The pub is just doing pizza and burgers really, but they are amazingly tasty and generous. The staff are great - friendly and efficient. We sat outdoors on a warm summer evening. There’s poor choice for vegans, gluten intolerance etc. It was very quiet even though a Friday night. We had a lovely visit. The dessert menu is limited and expensive at £6.50 - the coffees were good. We love coming here.

Booked just a couple of hours before we needed a table. Was welcomed at the door, and shown to the seating area - we had chosen to sit outside - which offered lovely views over the hillside opposite. There were not many other diners outside so it was lovely and quiet. Very efficient, cheerful, friendly and prompt service. The food was delicious with a varied menu and mouthwatering "specials", chosen by 2 of our party (wish I had chosen the ribs 2!) Altogether a perfect place for a trip out with my elderly parents who are still cautious about going out anywhere following this last year of shielding, but who were relaxed, happy and at the end of the meal very full. Thank you.
