Preferred the summer menu much more. Hope they return to it.
We enjoyed afternoon tea and it was just lovely sitting in the courtyard.
What a lovely restaurant! It’s beautiful and the ambiance is enhanced by great music...think Sinatra and Elvis. For my wife and me, the food was not good...a really tough ribeye. To be fair, our friends raved about their salmon. Service was slow though it seemed there was only one server for the entire restaurant.
There were some really good things about this restaurant, e.g. the food was well-prepared and the setting was quiet and very pleasant. On the negative side the staffing was insufficient with the server also mixing the drinks behind the bar. As a result service was slow and inattentive. My biggest problem was the price and size of the wine glasses. I did not measure the wine, but the small glasses looked to have about 2 ounces of wine in them at a steep price.
Lovely dining room ambiance & great music!
Chefs new menu was amazing! Risotto and salmon were just right.
Small menu but great food
We went to the Vanderbilt Grill for our anniversary for dinner. We expected to pay more money but we were also expecting the food to be amazing. The atmosphere was nice we sat outside, it was quiet and yo can see the lit up church behind you. We had the calamari that was not good at all- the breading on it tasted stale and was hard to chew. I had the salmon belly app which did taste good. My husband got the steak which he said was chewy and not good and I got the Halibut which was good but not great. We got the chocolate torte for dessert which had a very think crust and very little ice cream. I wanted to love it and it would have been ok for a different price point but for the price it should have been better. I had the hot chocolate which tasted like Swissmiss, very watery and not enough chocolate. Also I did list that it was our anniversary on the reservation and they made no mention of it.
The service was slow but pleasant. They could not find the wine we ordered, and took way too long to offer another bottle. Thankfully, after a long wait, the food was very good. Also very expensive .
We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Our evening began with drinks on the rooftop to watch the sunset. We then went down to a romantic dinner in the garden. As the evening got a little colder the staff turned on the fire pit and the outdoor heaters. They then brought furry blankets out to keep us warm. The food and service was excellent. They staff made our special day even more special with their attention to detail and thoughtful service.
The food is extremely average and very expensive. Service is terrible. Slow, rude waitresses. We won’t go back
The service was great. We were greeted by the Maître D and he was very nice. We arrived approximately an hour and a half before our reservations as we wanted to get a drink. We went to the rooftop for cocktails and we ordered some shrimp cocktail. Service was great. We went down for dinner and the Maître D remembered our names and sat us. He also would occasionally check on us. Our waitress was terrific and pointed out some favorites as suggestions. We actually went with her suggestions for an appetizer as well as both entrées. The food was great and we enjoyed a bottle of wine as well. Our server also suggested a dessert option which we went with and again she did not disappoint. So overall, just a delightful evening and thanks to everyone at Vanderbilt Grill.
We ate outside on a beautiful evening. The food was excellent and the wait staff very friendly. It made for a very special evening.
What a hidden gem in Newport. Loved the outdoor garden area for dining!!
Food was delicious. Our waiter was the only one (with helpers) but I think it would be better to have an additional waiter that night
We've been to the Vanderbilt twice before this last visit. The first two times, the food, service and ambiance were all five stars. This last visit, the staff wasn't knowledgeable about the menu or wine list and had to leave the table to get questions answered. The other thing that was a real negative was the lighting. The dining room was so dimly lit that it seemed like a dungeon. I cant imagine why they would want to hide such a pretty room with such a lighting scheme.
First, but not last, visit. Loved it. Felt like we went back in time. Food portions and quality outstanding. Service was fantastic. Highly recommended!
The outdoor garden at the Vanderbilt Grille is delightful. The glow from the fire pit and the landscaping add so much to the experience. The food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Definitely will go back again.
Beautiful dining room and the food and wine were phenomenal. Highly recommend.
We ate on the patio. It was early so it was very quiet. The patio is a beautiful area. The food was wonderful everyone shared their meals and the mushroom ravioli was amazing, particularly the balsamic sauce.
Lovely welcome from valet and waitstaff so friendly and kind!
We were celebrating our 55th Anniversary and we couldn’t have selected a more perfect place. First had a drink on roof top and then proceeded to garden for dinner which was delicious!!!! Our server Erin was excellent all around. Hope to get back soon.
Everything was top notch except for the service. They use a team approach to table service which means you deal with too many people who do not communicate with each other. Service was very slow in addition. Finally had to deal with the manager to finalize our bill. Food, ambiance, noise level, and price otherwise were outstanding.
Trying to be big and fancy . . . but they’re not. Good food, but very average. Not really worth the price. Check you bill for items you didn’t order. This was originally a home, later turned into a YMCA, then a “luxury” hotel and restaurant. Still kinda had the YMCA vibe going on in a few areas that sort of cheapened the experience, even though they try to make it feel like an elegant experience.
A lovely dinner. The bar was limited on choices. The menu was not extensive but had good options. The food was excellent. The device was good. I would go back.
made us give a credit card deposit for a 6:30 dinner telling us that there was no availability for a party of 4. When we arrived at the restaurant at 6:30, it was empty and continued to be empty for the whole dinner. the food was overpriced for what it was. the waiter was really nice however and made the experience better.
Loved the piano player!
Made my cousin’s 70th Birthday really special. Food, service and ambiance were all excellent.
Our waiter was very inexperienced and overwhelmed. After a party of 9 came in, we were primarily served by the wonderful maitre D, Ian, and a helper. Food was underwhelming as was the menu. The dining area was lovely.
The rooftop bar cannot be beat. The bartender was very friendly and offered blankets when it started to drizzle. Service for dinner downstairs was outstanding and well timed.
Food was great. Server must have been busy, but was still interactive. Loved the roof deck for next visit, as it poured. Would try again.
Amazing waiter and service. Varied wine menu with worldwide classics for value. Recommend the lamb and mini bloomin onions
Roof top bar was great. Veranda dining experience was less than acceptable, waited over 50 minutes for cocktails, order was wrong, decided not to dine by 915 for an 8p reservation and went to Satdella’s.
Service was slow and it was a 50TH birthday celebration and the desert was half an ice cream ball...ridiculous.
Fantastic steak. Outside lovely. Service ok
Booked this restaurant because it has high tea but when we went on a Sunday, the restaurant was closed. Thank goodness it was a nice summer day and they seated us outside at an adjacent restaurant in the Vanderbilt Hotel. My asparagus egg white omelette was small and had no asparagus in it. Only mushrooms and cheese.
There is no air conditioning, fans or ventilation. It’s very very hot.
A friend of mine recommended the Rooftop Vanderbilt bar for the amazing view. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary and watched our first sunset on the rooftop. Spectavular view. Prior to drinks on the rooftop we had dinner downstairs. Food and drinks were tasty!
Went to dinner with my girlfriend - we are a younger couple and they served the older couple next to us (who sat down 20 minutes after us), before we even got bread. Manager was rude when I complained. We ended up eating an app and leaving
Located within the Vanderbilt Hotel and convenient to waterfront, the restaurant is upscale, quiet and convenient for late night meal. Good wine list, piano bar, and varied seasonal menu. Food well presented and tasty. Local seafood salad was excellent as well as the squid and seafood linguini. Attentive, non-intrusive wait staff who were young but knowledgable including familiarity with a large list of wines. Highly recommend.
