We enjoyed the Vandal. The service was excellent - maybe a little too much attention with plate clearing the second you finished the last bite or took the last sip. The server was very helpful with the wine although we erred in ordering a very expensive bottle of wine because the print wasn’t clear & it turned out to be $100 more than we expected. The server seemed a little surprised when we ordered it as I remember. Although it was our mistake, since most of the other wines were much less money, it might have been nice if the server just double checked that we saw the price of it, which we did not. The food was basically very good, although all 4 of us felt that every dish was slightly over salted. We had 5 small plates and 2 entrees. The entrees were both soft shells. An issue with that was that there was only one soft shell per dish (too few for an entree & they were over breaded which made them look large but they weren’t and one person’s was literally 1/2 the size of the other person’s. While it and the accompaniments were delicious, one soft shell is very little for $46. The rest of our dishes were very substantial for the price. Overall we really did enjoy our meal at the Vandal. Another small issue which certainly was not the restaurant’s fault was that since we spend the winter in Florida, we had no idea that they had changed the parking in Lawrenceville to be pay until midnight on weekdays and 2 AM on weekends. As a result, we got a ticket. It might be nice when people tell the server that it is their first time in the restaurant that someone just mention that there had been a change in paying for parking and inquire if we knew. We didn’t know and we got a ticket.

Food was pretty nice but they were hustling customers out the door. We had an 8pm reservation and I ordered all our meal very quick upon being seated at 7:55pm. We ordered 1 starter, 3shareables, and 2 entrees and 2 drinks each. At 9pm the server told ys she would bring the check and did not offer a dessert menu etc. the couple next to us got told the next seating was there so they had to leave. For the price of the meal i think that it is pretty ridiculous to try to turn the tables every hour. Ruined the overall experience for me and won’t be back.

What a delight! This tiny, unassuming restaurant served up some of the most delicious, creative food I have had in Pittsburgh! I sadly experienced this a week before moving away! But when I am back in town this will be my first stop! The cocktails were unique and tasty, all of the plates were ordered were fantastic. What a gem!
