With respect to simplicity and execution, we try to highlight the awesome product from our local purveyors with minimal "fuss"
fresh fig, gorgonzola, walnut, balsamic
cherry tomatoes, greens, Parmesan
porcini, caper, fried shallot, little gem
Really innovative dishes and flavors that were absolutely delicious. Menu is small, which we viewed as a good thing, because what was offered was fresh and tasty. We had the impression that menu changes periodically as we had the “autumn menu”. Seating is limited, so plan ahead. We were able to get a reservation on Saturday night prime time within a week, but we were lucky. We would definitely go back!
Loved it-delicious cocktails and the food is great. The portions are not overwhelming-just right!
Very nice evening, nice music , but got louder & a little different as the evening went on.
My wine was great, lamb ragu with gnocchi was scrumptious, apple cake was tasty but could have been served warm. All in all a great experience.
Food and ambience was fabulous. Really enjoyed our time there. Will definitely go back.
Food generally good. Beef tartare bit on the salty side and oysters on the bland side. Cut them some slack since we were the first table to be served
Our friend, Kelly, is visiting from Texas and we made our way to The Vandal for the first time. All was incredible!
Appetizers: Beef tartare was the bomb and so was the Beet salad
Main Dish: The Ladies both ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli, I took down the Ribeye dish - - Try both 👌🏼
Can’t wait to go back. Our food was so good, I forgot to take pictures…😲
This is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. It is outstanding.
Another great meal at the Vandal. Steak was like butter, chicken Liver mousse was desert, and grilled cabbage was an eye opener. Sometimes it s the little things: The french fries are the best in the city.
Small selection, but mostly very good quality of food. Flavors are rich and intense.
Service is better than friendly - it's professional. Prices trend higher than your average bistro, but they're also not serving burgers and fries. Try the kale salad!
We went for Sunday brunch . Our server was sweet and efficient. The food was fabulous. Will definitely be back and recommend
Vandal’s dishes were imaginative & absolutely delicious - so hard to choose a favorite, but the garnished oysters appetizer & delectable winter squash brûlée dessert were exceptional. Our servers really cared that we enjoyed our dinner. Next time we travel to Pittsburgh we’ll make sure to return.
Excellent service, wonderful food, caring ownership treating my wife and her best friends royally for her Birthday.
We have had a lot of great dinners at the Vandal, but last night was the best. Absolutely perfect. Great Service, more expansive wine list and the food was tremendous. Chicken liver toast with fresh Quince was sublime, as well as the Beet salad. The Ribeye was the best steak I have had in a long time due to it being cooked "sous vide" and then seared. The lamb ragu pasta was incredibly flavorful and bright. There were a lot of people working which was nice to see and it is obvious that Joey is an incredible manager of kitchen and front of the house talent.
Years later, this is still one of the best and my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. I have never had a bad meal or experience here. Servers are knowledgeable, menu is always interesting, and the execution is wonderful. Joey and his staff are the best and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Nice environment for a date. Candles on the tables, fresh and local ingredients used for dinner.
We sat on the sweet patio in the back with a view of a potager full of veggies and herbs. The menu was simple and fun. We started with cocktails, Calvados Spritzer, and then regaled in Lamb Ragu, Braised Cabbage and Beets. Couldn't resist the olive oil cake for dessert. It was extraordinary: tender, not too sweet, delicate flavors. The two of us shared all dishes and left feeling more than satisfied. It was a meal to remember.
Overall, The Vandal was just okay. Great atmosphere, but the food was okay. I’m definitely going to go back and try it again, though.
The service was prompt and very wonderful! The food was even better! Overall my wife and I really enjoyed it and will for sure be coming back on another date night.
It was our first time back since the Pandemic began to what had been one of favorite restaurants. Frankly, the restaurant was even better than we remembered. We each had different appetizers to start that were mind-blowingly good. Instead of entree's, we continued with appetizers and ordered "hot dogs". They were no ordinary hot dogs, but boudin blanc on a tasty roll with mustard and a fresh relish. Yum! Watching all the people and dogs walk by was great entertainment and our charming/knowledgeable waitress made for a great night. We can't wait to go back.
Have never had a bad meal here, the food is always innovative, fresh and delicious.
Great staff and great food.
We had black cod and chicken schnitzel. Both were good but not exceptional. Best was my aperol spritz which was one if the best I’ve had.
Small table for 3 people and we had to ask to be given menus. Food was good, smaller portions than anticipated but very tasty
We came unknowing during restaurant week. They offered two choices for each course of a three course meal with a wine pairing with each course. We decided to be adventurous and ordered both choices to share. Wow - six half dishes. The flavors and freshness were amazing. The wine parings were well done. And the service was top notch.
We will definitely be coming back next week to see the whole menu which I hear changes to keep the freshness.
The food was outstanding. The contrasting flavors of each dish were on point. The wine list was not so impressive.
My husband and I tried The Vandal during Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. We loved it. The food was outstanding. The staff friendly and knowledgeable. The place is small so I would recommend a reservation. One caveat, the music was a bit loud - we are over 50 so that might have been the problem right there :)
Lawrenceville, is a wonderful area of Pittsburgh with many tempting restaurants to choose from. I hope you choose The Vandal I know you will enjoy it!
It was restaurant week so it was a 3 course price fixed menu. We ordered both choices and tasted everything. Each meal was perfect in taste and the way each course played off the other. This is my second time at Vandal and it did not disappoint. My next plan is to try brunch. I highly recommend.
Food was delicious. Very unique presentations and menu items. Service was very good. Would eat here again.
We were there for Restaurant Week with the price fixe menu and absolutely loved it. The Vandal’s creativity is always outstanding and delicious.
Excellent meal at a great value. Looking forward to going back.
Went for restaurant week and had a great meal. I got the tomato & peach salad, whipped ricotta & marinated pepper tartine, and the gemelli with crab, corn & bottarga. We also paid the extra $20 for wine parings, which was fantastic. The tomato salad was a fantastic starter, I would have sopped up all the juices left behind with toast if they'd let me. The tartine was by far my favorite dish! The gemelini was good, but I do think the fishyness was a bit much... I would have liked it with just the crab, and left the bottarga out. Overall fantastic meal though!
Creative, fresh, & delicious. We especially enjoyed the tuna with watermelon, cucumber, avacado, celery. You'd have to taste it to believe how well these flavors work together. The preparation was thoughtful and brought out the best in all the ingredients. The scallop special with eggplant and cherry moustard showed the same elevation of ingredients prepared to be their best.
All of the food was delicious from the Serrano ham and garlic shrimp small plates to the gemelli and pork large plates. Really outstanding. Cocktails were just ok, but maybe it was just our tastes. We switched to wine anyway though.
Great spot, creative cooking, will be back for sure!
Such a clean and modern atmosphere with phenomenal food and drinks
Always live The Vandal!
I frequent The Vandal, and the food and service are always perfect. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and give great recommendations.
Very hip joint. Great brunch. Excellent service. Enjoyed the meal.
great brunch....will again try for dinners....
Great food. Good service. Busy but paid attention to us.
