The Tobacco Company Restaurant
This was the first time we had been here since it was closed by the fire. We didn't know if it would be the same place, but the decor and interior were exactly how we remembered it. The food was excellent, including the filet mignon. Service was top notch and overall we definitely enjoyed it. Excellent wine and drink selection as well.
I am so glad to see this restaurant open again. So much is the same as before. However, there are new high top tables on the first floor near the bar and the Victorian sofas have been replaced with more eclectic seating and an additional bar area.
They are not open for lunch which is a shame. Business lunches would thrive there.
Overall very good. Have been many times. However, our server was not good. She was very short at times, indifferent at best. No eye contact, no pleasantries - not even remotely friendly in even a transactional sense. Worst of all was absolutely ZERO check-back once food was delivered. My guest ordered prime rib and did not get any au jus or horseradish sauce. Not the end of the world. Easily solved with a check-back. I literally tried to wave her down with no luck. My guest literally ate the prime rib to near completion w/o her condiments, and definitely changed her experience. Did not see server again until ready for check. I virtually never say anything but could not help telling her we were very disappointed - and her reaction was as indifferent as the rest of the evening. No real apology, and not even remotely the things you'd think at that point, like, "I'm so sorry, let me get my manager to make this right", or "oh my, you're right - I'm so sorry, let me take that off the check" or any one of about a dozen different responses you'd think you would get under the circumstances. They lost out on another round of drinks and dessert, because at that point, we were not happy and just paid and left. Really unfortunate because I've had so many good experiences there. Hopefully just an anomaly.
It was a special dinner for Father’s Day and this establishment did not disappoint! They even set up a special side small room for our party of 5 which was extremely helpful to me since I wear hearing aids which can make it difficult to hear conversations when seated in a large dining area. The waiter was the perfect balance between being available but not overwhelming. The food was delectable. Highly highly recommend this restaurant!
Delicious food and excellent drinks
As always, a fantastic experience at tobacco company! You can’t beat the ambiance and food, such a classy place.
We were happy to get to experience The Tobacco Company again after many years. Nick was a superb waiter and the salmon was spectacular. We will be going back again for sure.
It’s the Tobacco Company we’ve known and come to love for all of these many years. A Richmond staple!
Restaurant was pretty wide open as it was a Wednesday evening and we were seated in the back corner facing the kitchen - not a very nice view. It seemed like they were trying to turn tables because our food was out about 10 minutes after ordering. Wine was very good. I asked for the rarest piece of Prime Rib they had and it came out medium rare at best. Constructive criticism would be slow things down- when people are paying the price Tobacco demands they want an experience that lasts longer than 45 minutes.
In Richmond for a wedding. Someone mentioned
The food was really good and service was great! Enjoyed!
Went here for our anniversary. Very much enjoyed cocktails at the bar before dinner. Bartenders were friendly and easy to talk too. Ate dinner on the 2nd floor. Band was slightly louder than I like but not bad. Service and food was 10+. My wife had crab cakes and l had prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly and excellent. This a very classy and upscale place where you get what you’re paying for.
My wife and I were excited to go back after a long wait. The place was great but the foods were disappointing. The chef over cooked everything from coconut shrimps to prime rib and scallops. I asked for medium well for my prime rib which show up more like a steak instead. However the atmosphere was great. Will wait for a while before going back.
We enjoyed the food and the ambience, however, what made the evening memorable was the waiter. He was outstanding in every way and offered suggestions regarding the menu and was always there when needed and not there when there was no need.
I highly recommend the Tobacco Company restaurant.
Our dinner at the Tobacco Company was a celebration. It lived up to every expectation we had. Will, our waiter was superb. I highly recommend it.
Had a wonderful experience. Will definitely dine there again.
Great experience and great food
We requested to be seated on the second floor with a view of downstairs and they did just that! Our waiter was extravagant and our food was just as good. Definitely recommend to anyone willing to spend a little more money for a enchanting experience.
Great place, atmosphere, excellent food even better than expected, despite high cost it was worth every penny
We arrived on time and were offered a seat at the kitchen doors (a high volume traffic area) despite putting a notice in my reservation about requesting a nice place to sit to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We asked for a different table and were shown another, much better one. The hostess attempted to take our drink order at the same time as handing us our set of menus and before we had sat down or had a chance to look at our menus. Things settled down after that. Our waitress was nice and not intrusive. The fried oysters appetizer was fabulous, just not very many of them. I ordered the Steak Oscar - the tenderloin was an excellent cut and the lump crab was generous. My wife ordered the Prime Rib and it was done to perfection and we were able to get an additional saucer of au jus. We shared the entrees and both concluded the food was excellent though the portions were a bit modest for the price. I ordered the bread pudding for dessert which was way too dry and rather tasteless. I took a couple of bites and decided enough was enough and was wishing I had tried something else. Overall, a nice restaurant with a unique atmosphere. The food was great (with the exception of the bread pudding). I do wish they would bumped up their portions a bit.
The food was very good, fan blowing on me, so I was cold.
good overall service a tad bit slow but server very pleasant
I feel like this place doesn't need any description or hype. If you've asked anyone about dining in Richmond you've heard of Tobacco Company. This was my third trip here and it never disappoints. Were in town for a wedding and very glad they reopened recently after the fire. Can't recommend enough, it's a Richmond staple and if you're going out for a nice night in the city, can't beat it.
Excellent atmosphere and décor. Nothing bad at all. Fine cocktail choices. We choose a nice wine. I was disappointed that the Rockfish on Menu was replaced with mahi-mahi. Great experience. Go for it.
This restaurant is fantastic. Always delicious food and friendly staff. The atmosphere is so classy and had a jazz band playing when we were there. Hospitality on point!
The Tobacco Company is a Richmond institution and a must see for anyone visiting the city
The food was delicious and not outrageously expensive. Our server was wonderful- full of information and very service oriented. My only suggestion to the Tobacco Company is to slow down the service. Our entire meal including a predinner drink was less than an hour. Dishes were cleaned off the table the minute we finished and we were never asked about whether we wanted drinks during or after dinner. Savoring the atmosphere and enjoying dinner companions is part of the dining experience.
The only thing better than the sumptuous food was the superb service.
The level of service was not up to par considering the cost of the food which was amazing. Server was very disinterested in providing a high level of service and was not very attentive.
The food was great. Our server was good but seemed busy at times.
My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here and everything was fantastic. The food was delicious, the staff were all very attentive, and the environment was perfect for our date. I would definitely recommend this for a nice date night out.
The Tobacco Company Restaurant has a great appeal for a casual meal, business meal, or even drinks. Our waiter was extremely attentive, food was accurate, and the value was good.
It was amazing service !
Delicious! Always a great dining experience. The service is exceptional! A great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Generous portions, amazing atmosphere, and great place for a celebration.
Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion! We were a group of seven and everyone enjoyed their meal immensely.
Awesome atmosphere and delicious food! It is a beautiful restaurant that I would recommend for any anniversary or nicer dinner.
Went for anniversary dinner. Amazing food, drinks and service! Wished us happy anniversary and gave us a free dessert!
Service was great, but steak was over cooked! I would suggest ordering a temp down from normal, especially if someone in your party gets a medium well filet. My wife’s martini was fantastic. Love Tobacco Company...just work on steak temps
