A beautiful quintessential English pub with a small drinking area and cosy restaurant.

Our new Head Chef Matthew Marsh runs a daily changing specials menu using the finest local suppliers and ingredients including our own butchery in Salhouse for excellent locally sourced meat.

Alongside the daily changing menu, we also run our “Pub Classics” menu, which contains household pub staples.

    Food was great and served quickly. However was kept waiting for ages upon arrival and the man who I assume was the manager was incredibly rude. Needs to learn customer service skills to be honest. You don't greet diners, tell them to wait and then answer the phone whilst they are stood in front of you. We were not made to feel welcome and he was also incredibly rude and condescending to his members of staff which made us feel uncomfortable. Was such as shame as was really looking forward to our easter sunday meal.

    I don't understand the idea of bringing the extra veg gravy etc out on a board -- there's absolutely no space on the tables for all of this. If the table of 4 next to us for example all had a roast they'd be putting things on the floor out of the way. When saying we didn't want dessert or another drink upon saying no thank you were made to feel a bit awkward.then straight away he turned to the lady on the bar ( who was on her own and very busy )bill for table 1 please, then again a few minutes later he said the same thing, as though he wanted to get rid of us!! Weird atmosphere there today,,staff did not seem relaxed around this guy. If this guy's the new owner or manager he's not giving off a good vibe

    Beautiful food, ambiance, great staff and lovely coffee. Second time eating here for Sunday roast and I can't fault anything. I love this place and tell everyone about it 🤩 if I could give 10 stars I would. Well done The Stag, you have my vote 100 times x

    Enjoyed the pub very much, decor lovely. Parking a bit hit and miss, which can’t be helped. Specials board was excellent idea, means choices change regularly. Food very good as was service.

    First time we’d been back since the new owners took over. Menu completely changed, not for the better. Quality of food has deteriorated and the service not good. Got the wrong meal first time round. Manager was very apologetic and took the price of a drink off. This is all very disappointing because it was a venue we had used many times before. Not sure we will be back.

    The service was very good. Since it had changed hands the menu is more limited. Having chosen the pie it was very good and the vegetables were well cooked. The wine prices are somewhat over the top.

    Not the lovely place for a romantic date night it was. Noisy, no beer (claimed that 3 weeks down the line they were still negotiating with suppliers), no pinot, food very average but want you to pay top dollar, very unorganised. Big issue with dogs on laps at bar, and those on the floor were laying in any walk areas for waitresses to trip over. People at the table beside us were in complete agreement with us and suggested it was now just a lunch venue and we would be going to the Lodge instead. Suggestion....pick your target audience, but remember during the winter they wont be there.

    Unfortunately our lunch was not what we expected based on what we had heard from friends. The service was a little lack lustre and although our meals looked amazing the vegetables weren't cooked ( my peas were cold and like bullets) and mum's broccoli was hard. Specials were better than the classic menu. Atmosphere was nice. It might be a new venture trying to find it's feet however we will wait and see if it fulfils it's potential.

    Went for my partner's birthday, lovely food, great service from Steve, although the other lady needs to learn how to smile, she was very abrupt, but that didn't deter from the great food
