Built in 1839 on an old archery range, this pub quickly became a cherished neighbourhood meeting spot and was frequented by notable locals throughout its history, from Winston Churchill to Tony Blair.

To honour the historical roots of the establishment, offer our take on the quintessential British gastro pub. We aim to be London's only gastro pub sourcing all of our ingredients from the British Isles, and where that is not possible, we look to source ingredients from countries and territories with close links to Britain, such as our lemons from Gibraltar. Our Head Chef champions British produce through culinary favourites such as steak, fish pie, and the classic treacle pudding.Our unique drinks & wine list is also fully sourced from sustainable vineyards, breweries and distilleries across Britain

                          This is such a delightful place. The food is excellent and the staff— George, Amy, Eva and Lauren— are fantastic. Very good beer, too! We come back every time we’re in London. Such a lovely refuge from the hustle and bustle— like coming home.

                          I assume they were having a bad night when we visited. We had booked bar seating but the bar was full so we were shown to a table. I could hear tables around us that were asking about their meals or their drinks. Some saying it was the third time they’d asked. After 40 minutes we still hadn’t received our basic drinks. At that point, we decided to cut our losses and leave. I gave one star for food & value but can’t actually rate with since we didn’t eat or drink. If you’re having a bad night in the kitchen, it’s ok to let guests know. Honestly, if the staff had been friendly and the drink service swift, we would have stuck around to eat.

                          We found this restaurant through an Open Table top list. We were very pleasantly surprised! The food was outstanding from the beginning with our goats cheese salad. We loved the combination of flavors from the cheeses and sweet shallots - amazing! My wife had the steak and kidney pie and I had the fish and chips. Both outstanding. The fish was perfect, crunchy outside and flaky inside, and the chips came out, piping hot crunchy on the outside soft on the inside. We topped things off with one of the best desserts of our vacation so far, the sticky toffee pudding! George did a noble job as our server!

                          The Stablehand offers a charming pub setting with a full, thoughtful menu and excellent food—the fish was especially well-prepared. The ambience is warm and inviting, ideal for a relaxed evening out. Unfortunately, the service was very slow and it was difficult to get the staff’s attention when needed. Our dinner dragged on so long that our special guests had to leave before dessert. A shame, as the food and setting deserve better support from the front-of-house team.

                          Absolutely fabulous place! The Girls - capital letter intended - were attentive, helpful and always smiling. There is a lesson to be learnt from them for other venues! Highly recommended, no doubt about it.
