Delicious! Food was fresh and service was great!
The food is great, but the service is spotty. I've always had good service at the bar, but when I sat down at a table for brunch the server was slow, but somehow still seemed to rush us when she needed something. She brought us the wrong drinks (they were for another table) and was annoyed when we looked confused since they weren't what we ordered. It took FOREVER for the drinks and food to be delivered. Our waitress was just not overall friendly...seemed to want to shovel us out of there as fast as possible despite it taking them forever to deliver the food and drinks. I'll sit at the bar from now on....
This was our second visit to The Smith. Service is outstanding and the food delicious. It is a popular spot so don't expect a quiet intimate dinner, however the atmosphere is inviting. The bar is beautiful.
Hostess went above and beyond to accommodate our group, was very warm. Server barely paid attention to us. I had to wave my arms to get him to clear the plates off our table after 30 minutes of them just sitting in front of us and him not even looking in our direction. He seemed to be attending well to the parties around us so I don't know what his problem was.
The waiter was personable without being intrusive. Food arrived on time and hot. I misread the description and ordered an entrée that I did not like but the restaurant went out of their way to make sure I was happy with the meal. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent!! Would definitely order that again.
Our reservation was for 630. We were finally seated at 650pm. Once seated, the tables were incredibly close together, uncomfortably close together. Our waiter, while he tried his best considering he had way to many tables, was not very present. I’m fact due to this, we placed our appetizer, drink and entree order all at the same time for fear it would another 20min before our waiter would come back. Our appetizer came out.....BEFORE OUR DRINKS DID!!! The appetizer (Mac and cheese) was very good. Our entrees came out. I had the pork chop which was very very good. My wife ordered the short rib Cavatappi. It was bland and cold but we didn’t interact with our waiter again for 45 min so we were unable to let him know. Meanwhile, while this experience is very pedestrian, the table next us was occupied by 4 girls, while we were there, they were given six (6) portions of bread....my table and the other in the row received a grand total of zero (zero). That’s right one table pitched a shutout and bread for days, and yes both my table and the other asked for bread, just never received it, they probably ran out because it was all given to the other table.....seriously, 4 people given six plates of bread, roughly 36 pieces of bread...for 4 people!!! Overall the staff was unkind, dismissive and unprepared for a busy night. I would not recommend going here unless it is very early or during the week.
Do not eat here unless you like baby food, screaming to your companions, waiting in the cold by the door ten minutes, tightly packed tables in a diner, and paying $10 for any vegetables. If you’re in your mid-twenties and want to give your money to a restaurant instead of your retirement plan, then this is the place for you! If you want to eat good food and talk (not shout) at dinner, then skip this place and go almost anywhere else nearby such as District Chophouse or the Grand Hyatt. I saw some people have to wait 20 minutes by the front door like it was Black Friday at a Wal-Matt. My kale and spinach au gratin looked promising on the menu, but I think it came from a Gerber bottle. The pasta was homemade but drowned in butter without any vegetables (except mushrooms). We didn’t stay for dessert or wine. We just wanted to get out.
The food and service were both excellent. They had our reservation despite it being a busy Saturday night and it was an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this.
A wonderful place to connect with a dear friend and enjoy a delicious meal!
Great, cozy spot near the Newseum and other DC museums. Plenty of seating, modern decor and a big menu with plenty of options. Highly recommend the home made sodas!
have had good experiences here in the past, but last friday night was not top-notch. our server took quite awhile to come over once our party was seated, and our drinks took a remarkably long time to arrive. however, our food arrived shortly thereafter. it was also extremely loud - difficult to enjoy conversation with our party of 6. we will consider a different place next time we are in the city.
Was very disappointed with The Smith. Tables were too close. I could hear the conversation of the couple at the next table 12 inches away better than my date across the table. Went at 6:00 pm on a Wednesday night and the noise was deafening as soon as you walk in the door. Food was average but the extreme noise does not make it possible tohave a relaxing dinner
We were stuck in the middle of the restaurant, where my chair or our table was bumped thru the course of the evening. It was loud, VERY hot, and the service was completely mediocre. I have been there a few times, but this one was the worse experience, and I'm not sure will return after this one. The food is decent, but nothing that i feel like I can't get somewhere else where I wouldn't get bumped all night.
Food and atmosphere are excellent, but the service is poor and the restrooms are filthy.
My wife and I enjoyed Sunday brunch at The Smith prior to an afternoon matinee at Ford's Theater. We were immediately shown to our table at our reservation time even though the restaurant was busy. We ordered Bloody Mary's which were delicious. I had the Smith Eggs Benedict and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. Both choices were fantastic! I recommend The Smith for anyone looking for a restaurant with nice ambiance and great food prior to an event at Ford's Theater or Capital One Arena.
Food was great! Staff was so helpful and polite. Would definitely go back.
Busy place with good food and nice bistro feel near Shakespeare theatre. Had a good meal, service was spot on. Accommodated gluten allergy thank you!
As usual a great experience, awesome food choices (even for Vegetarians, which i'm not but my date is). Only gripe is it was a cold night and the front host staff didn't seem to notice when the entryway glass doors were wide open. So whenever people came through the inner doors, the contained air in the foyer/entry way would blast into the restaurant. I had to ask 3x for that door to be closed - normally the excellent staff at this location would catch that and ensure it wouldn't happen again. Anyhow still love The Smith!
I got out of work late and was running late to my birthday reservation for 2. I was able to push it back 15 minutes to 6:45 even though I needed to be out the door at 7:45. The Smith did the job. My friend and I were seated, quickly ordered, and our server did the best job. She had a candle put into my burger, a very special touch. Oh, and the burger was delicious. My friend and I can’t stop talking about the burgers we had. I will 100% be back.
Good variety on the menu. Mussels are really good. Service attentive but not hovering.
Another decent DC restaurant in which you cannot have a conversation over a table. It's a lovely decor and setting, with a nice menu. (Dessert menu is terrific!) But for this price, I would expect a quieter environment. It was not only difficult for us to hear each other, but difficult for the server to hear us. For this primary reason I am not likely to go back (unless it is for a drink and dessert at the bar).
Nice casual restaurant with friendly staff - a place to gather with friends
I feel bad writing this because they did try to "make good" at the end (so it could have been worse), but our service and meal here was a huge disappointment. We made reservations well in advance and were hitting the Verizon Center after for an event, and we it took us more than 40 minutes JUST to get our drinks. They totally forgot to put in one meal out of the four, and we had to scarf it all down to get to our show in time. The food was average -- they put dressing on my salad when I said on the side, and it just seemed to be one thing after another. More than once I felt like they'd forgotten we were there. They did eventually show some empathy (maybe it was when the manager finally brought the drinks over) but we had to get up and track down a manager a few times in order to get that kind of treatment. They comped us the wine and our dessert and appetizers, which was nice, but I'd almost rather have a good experience upfront. Sorry but first impressions are everything -- won't be going back.
Great food and drinks. I enjoyed it. It is a little noisey, but enjoyable.
The food was excellent. The noise level, though, was too loud -- I don't understand why trendy restaurants now seem to favor all hard surfaces. Also, we were quite aware that the servers were instructed to flip tables as quickly as possible. Even though I had one oyster still on my plate I was asked twice if my plate could be cleared.
We made a reservation for after the Capitals game and while there was a huge influx of people they axcomidatesnus quickly and easily and our table was ready when expected. The food was amazing. The service was great. We will definitely be coming back.
Food is good, service is mediocre and it was a Friday at lunch and they were out of several menu items - BLT? How does a restaurant run out of the ingredients for a BLT???
We went for Thanksgiving and couldn’t have asked for a better feast. My only disappointment was that I didn’t get to try the sticky toffee pudding, as they ran out as we ordered it! :( But we dined pretty late in the day, so it’s not a surprise. Still, we got all the fixin’s plus leftovers, and the atmosphere couldn’t be beat.
Excellent food and service on Thanksgiving! Enjoyed the festive, crowded atmosphere too.
It was very loud and rushed environment but was ok. Wouldn’t come back next year.
Thanksgiving dinner had gluten free options. Crowded and busy but food and service was still great. Went back for breakfast. Equally as delicious.
Thanksgiving dinner!!! Wow as a tracker on the holidays you guy killed it. Great menu and great cooking. It’s not moms dinner but she has horrible cooking skills. Well priced thoughtful accommodations and great service. Thank you so much for your hospitality and your cool laid back service.
Thanksgiving and son’s birthday
Amazing Thanksgiving Meal, service a little slow & some tables a bit cramped. Staff lovely & accommodating.
It was thanksgiving and they had a pre-fixe menu. Everything was delicious!
I booked a table for Thanksgiving and was new ally impressed. I held a lunch for expat women who were in town on the holiday. The number of people for the booking changed about 3 tines each time I called I was helped courteously and quickly.
On the day the food was great, the sides were a large servings that 2 people could easily share. There was enough variety on the menu that everyone got something they really wanted to eat. The service was really good and our waiter had a really great attitude. The Smith was really busy that day but we weren’t kept waiting for any of our dishes. Try the sticky toffee pudding!!
Went for Thanksgiving dinner and we were very impressed. The 3 course meal included a nice selection and included 4 sides. Service was outstanding with a staff person always within speaking distance. Would highly recommend.
Food is delish
